That gives New Orleans More money but makes them a worser team……Butler was a key player on their bench.

You can’t blame New Orleans. I would’ve done that trade too…..saving $8 million & getting a 2nd round pick was a good move. Butler wasn’t really that big of a factor IMO.

Butler doesn’t make their bench, he was expendable. You still have Wright, Armstrong, and Posey on that bench.

Plus Thornton, unless he becomes the starter .

but the whole team is not going to stay healthy the whole year, what happens when one person goes down… then they’re ridiculously thin. All I can say is they must’ve liked what they saw of Thorton in summer league…

Bad trade Butler wasnt that good but this really hurts their bench.

I’m more worried about their big man rotation. A Melvin Ely, Sean Marks, Hilton Armstrong combo off the bench is almost laughable.

Don’t forget about Diogu. He is a solid PF. Underrated for sure. When he gets playing time he is pretty effective. Darren Collison & Thornton both looked good in summer league to me. There bench isn’t that bad. I have seen worse ha that is for sure.

They’re such a bad team, it’s hilarious… the job CP3 does is out of this world. They can trade whoever and still be a threat as long as CP3 is healthy.

New orleans had the 5th worst offensive last year. Butler averaged 11 ppg thats just going to decrease the teams offense.

True Diogu is not bad and he will definitely get minutes. I still think that NO is under the impression that Paul can make anyone look good.

How did this hurt their bench lol. They were super deep at the swingman position. They still have Morris Peterson, Julian Wright, James Posey. If Thorton Starts this is their bench at the 2 and 3. I think Devin Brown is still under contract. Also Antonio Daniels can play spot minutes at the two. They need to save money to add a stronger front court. Next year draft will be stocked with big men so i am loving New Orleans moves. Sometimes small moves can be huge down the road. Collison Thorton Posey Digou bench combo is nasty. That is a nice bench. There are a lot of teams with success who would not mind that bench. Their problem is health and just being able to put the right combinations on the floor. They also need more big men which after next years draft should not be an issue and they could solve it now by picking up Joe Smith or Stromile Swift or trade with NF for Boone.

Butler was a role player that Paul made look like a starter. Replacing Butler will be easy trust me.

I agree with Sheltwon, Thornton is an upgrade over Butler IMO

The Clippers had no depth at the wing and needed another 3 pt shooter.

C’mon guys – Thorton – a 2nd rd pick isn’t going to start – maybe next year, but Mo Pete and Devin Brown are still there.

I agree with Sheltwon Butler aint all that. Paul and his penetration gets him open looks he is just a shooter.

butler was one of their few perimeter shooters but it was a good move.

This is obviously a great move for the Hornets FINANCIALLY wise. When you factor in the luxury tax implications, this move saves them almost $8 million. The Hornets really like Thornton and they still have Peterson (last season was the worst season of his career health/numbers wise though), Daniels and Brown. I guess that made Butler expendable, THOUGH he was their most dependable wing/shooter last season. A lot of you seem to be underrating/undervaluing him. Last season was the best season of his career. He played 82 games and averaged a little over 11 points per game. He shot 39% from 3P.

He had HUGE games versus the Clippers and Lakers last season. He scored 27 points and hit six 3-Pointers versus the Clippers. Maybe they saw something they liked! I think he’s a very good pickup to backup Gordon at shooting guard and/or Thornton at small forward. Maybe the Clippers don’t expect to re-sign Novak. Butler isn’t as great of a shooter as Novak, but he’d fill that need.
