thetruthParticipantLopez: Nets Want To Be Good Playoff Team
Aug 09, 2009 7:42 PM EST
The Nets traded Vince Carter to the Magic in June, but Brook Lopez still believes they can compete in the Eastern Conference.“Our goal is to be a very good playoff team. We have really good young talent, but also a little bit of experience,” Lopez told HoopsHype.com. “So it’s a good combination and I think we can go somewhere.”
Lopez added that New Jersey’s trade with Orlando earlier this offseason was difficult for him to swallow because he is very good friends with Ryan Anderson.
“It was difficult for me just because Ryan Anderson was my best friend on the team and helped me with the transition to the NBA. You just have to take it professionally. He’s going to a championship contender where he can play more to his strengths,” Lopez added. “As for myself, it allows me to have a bigger role next season.”

RickyRubio9Participantis great, I like what he is saying. Not too much, but not dogging anyone either. Great Player in time.

McWinningParticipanti could see them being good if they get Wade, or Lebron in 2010. Harris, and Lopez are good sidekicks, and they have a decent cast, but how good they depends completely on 2010 free agency, otherwise i dont see them as being that good.

jojososaParticipantI laughed when he mentioned tha word playoffs, tha nets are a young rebuilding team, and only have 2 good options on tha team ( harris, lopez) no doubt lopez and harris r gonna have great years but I dnt see this team winning more than 20 games.

MagikKnickParticipantYeah that team sucks, I love Harris and Lopez, but no one else on that team is a legit threat
There entire team is a group of bench players, 11th and 12th men besides Harris and Lopez
I like T-Will, but not this year….Also, I wonder how hes gonna handle the coaching change mid-season…

RickyRubio9ParticipantLeBron should go to them, They will be losing Tony Battie, Trenton Hassel, Rafer Alston, Jarvis Hayes, and Bobby Simmons I believe. That’s a good amount of money and they have about 17 Million owed to the players for next season. I doubt they resign any of those. With a nucleus of D. Harris, CDR, T-Will, Brooke Lopez, and Yi then throw in some Najera, Courtney Lee, and Um…What’s his name, Keyon Dooling. Man, They could have a lineup of
PG: D. Harris, (Sign backup)
SG: C. Lee, T-Will, CDR (All Depends where you want T-Will, could be SF or SG)
SF: ________, Najera (Getting up there in age)
PF: Yi, (Backup)
C: LopezSee anything missing there? lol.
SF!!! LEBRON!!!
Not to mention him being close friends with Jay-Z.0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/09/2009 - 4:20pm #198406
McWinningParticipanti could see Coutney Lee and Yi as solid players. but yeah they dont have much besides those two.

gatorheelsParticipantPlayoffs, PLAYOFFS, were talking Playoffs! Get real Brook….the Nets are pure garbage right now. No ______ way they make the postseason.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/09/2009 - 4:26pm #198409
McWinningParticipantno there 83&1/3% garbage.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/09/2009 - 4:28pm #198410

RickyRubio9ParticipantGive these guys a little more credit.
Brooke Lopez is going to be a Very Good Center, maybe not Great, but 18 and 10 for sure.
Devin Harris can average 20+ and 8+ Assist.
Courtney Lee has so much experience already it’s crazy, 4 Years of College, Finals Trip in Rookie Season. I say any Rookie that starts on a Finals Team is pretty darn good.
Yi was averaging 15 and 6 I believe before his injury and he can still improve and Brooke has said he is more aggresive and it surprised him.
T-Will is like a Poor Man’s LeBron to me, which isn’t bad. He does a little of everything, but his shot is questionable along with four years of College, not bad.
Najera has always been a solid player and pretty good on the defensive end, real aggresive.
Eh, CDR is so-so, but I really like that team as a young and upcoming team. Especially with all the money they will have and if they can get that move to Brooklyn, just another thing to attract some Big Stars next year.0- Posted on: Sun, 08/09/2009 - 11:18pm #198503
bkballerParticipantyou my friend have this problem called overrating your players.
Lopez put up 13 and 8 does not guarantee 18 and 10. He was very NBA ready like many centers…Look up the rookie numbers of solid centers like ilguaskas and okafor…similar to brook….and then look at career 20 and 10 centers rookie years …tim duncan, shaq etc…NOT EVEN CLOSE, franchise centers come out right away and usually dominate.
Dwight Howard exception he was straight out of high school, plus he is much more physically dominant than Lopez can ever be and thats how he gets his numbers.Yi average 15 and 6 for a span of like 2-3 games. and about 8-9 ppg the rest of the time when he was healthy. 38% shooting for 7-0 is pathetic. Plus hes like 26 lol
Courtney Lee having soo much experience doesn’t help your cause, it means hes fully developed and isnt going to get much better. Most seniors out of college are what you see is what you get.
T-will poor man’s lebron?!?! ill skip this
Harris wont average 8 assists he lost the guy who he got most of his assists from and he never had 8 in his career.
Najera?! really…??? skipp to easy
Move to brooklyn isnt a guarantee and deff wont happen until after 2010 free agency. It will be funny when its still not official by then and noone will sign with the nets due to the uncertainty. Plus whoever does sign on will spend 2 yrs in jersey. (ew)

McWinningParticipanti dont really agree with the T-Will comparision, but i agree their an okay team not good but okay.

GoodbyeChandlerParticipantthe impact carter had on that team. first off, without him, i am not sure if harris would even be an all star. his presence allowed harris to assert himself more. now, i think the nets have a roster that is so horrible, it should be rated r.

BasketballGuru24ParticipantSpoken Words From A Leader. Thats what Brook Lopez is a leader. he knows they have no shot in hell, he just wants to show a bright spot , and be positive . They might suprise
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/09/2009 - 4:50pm #198418

thetruthParticipantwill be a playoff team in 2 years. simply because harris will continue to play on a all-star level, lopez will be putting up some good numbers too. twill will provide coming off the bench or starting. lee will get better as well, i do think the nets need a new coach .

RickyRubio9Participanton the Summer of 2010 they could very well be in it next year. With all that space, I wouldn’t be surprised by anything.

RickyRubio9ParticipantI have to admit, that caught me off guard and was a little startling
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/09/2009 - 5:01pm #198428
McWinningParticipantyeah. would you be happy if they signed him with all their cap room to entertain their players?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/09/2009 - 5:02pm #198429

RickyRubio9ParticipantI believe he is going to ask for too much and not produce enough, should probably head to Europe to get some more developing done.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/09/2009 - 5:03pm #198431
McWinningParticipantyeah he probably should.

NYK2010ParticipantRealistically they will win more than 20 games, losing Vince Carter hurts but he’s not worth 14 wins.
They have a good backcourt who’s deeper at PG with Harris, Alston, Dooling,
Shooting Guards C. Lee and CDR both young and improving.
Small Forward of Hayes, Simmons, Twill isn’t awful.
Power Forward they struggle I think they missed out on Big Baby he’s got some talent, now they have to make do with Najera, Battie, Boone, Sean Williams.
At Center I think Lopez could be a top Center just becaz he had 13, 8 doesn’t mean he can’t dominate. He started off slow but turned it up after the All Star Break 57% shooting.
Who are the elite centers in the East besides Shaq, Bogut, Howard? If Lee continues to develop and they get something out of those power forwards this team should compete well. Playoffs are a reach but 30-35 wins are pretty realistic

SwatLakeCityParticipantI have the Nets as #6 in my draft lottery(yeah I know too early, but hey I’ve seen people’s mock drafts on here, so why not a draft lottery order) They have a solid lineup, but I am not so sure about T-will starting. He was from a very, very poor draft class. Good role players but very poor in future stars. I say Twill is a backup in the 2010-2011 season. And George is their lottery pick, he can play both SG and SF so that is a luxury to them. The Nets are no playoff team come next year. 2 maybe 3 problems with that team 1, no depth, 2 starting SF is a rookie T-will from a very poor draft class(probably the worst since before 2003) and 3, who knows how the chemistry will work with the new additions of Alston and Lee. Both of them are solid players, but chemistry is an issue that every team has to have and face sooner or later. If you have good chemistry, than you do well, if not then you pretty much suck. The Nets will be a playoff team in 2 or 3 years but not next season.

QHaynes20The Nets need to be a running team. Up-Tempo. They have the players to do it. I think by Season’s end, Harris will be overrated because he will have great numbers on a losing team. The Nets need to
Fire Frank and Hire either Avery Johnson, Mark Jackson or the ex head coach of Toronto
Look to sign Chris Bosh or Amare Stoudemire
With 2 1st round picks…look for depth/future helpers.

gatorheelsParticipanteprizzle- WTF? You are saying the Nets are better than the Warriors? Cmon dude lets be real here. The Warriors bench is WAY better than the Nets. It isn’t even close!! You seemed to forgot about Ellis, Randolph, Morrow, Azubuike, Wright, Turiaf, Maggette.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/10/2009 - 8:39am #198650
McWinningParticipantWarriors in my book are up their with the Thunder as future contenders, so gatorheel i agree they should be higher.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/10/2009 - 8:48am #198661
xbadgerhustlerParticipantGSW is WAYYYYYY better than the nets… lol. and if the eastern conference was as weak as it was last year, there might be a chance of the nets making the playoffs, but not this year. I think the eastern conference has started to level the playing field a little more. If GSW was in the eastern conference I’d say they were likely to make the playoffs… but they’re not

eprizzle14Participantgot a messed up I dont know why. I said Harris>Curry, Lee T-Will (now), Yi Biedrins and Nets Bench< W's
Warriors are my squad but for the future they are missing low post scoring and dont have cap to make a big move, I think the Nets may endure success before the W's simply because they might be able to lure a big FA. The Nets bench looks laughable and the Warriors is more then capable with Morrow, Maggette, Turiaf and Wright
even this post is messed up. I think the little arrows mess up the post, whatever
