Im not dissing rondo cause hes awesome
but he only really shined coz of the situation he was put in with being the only capable point guard in boston and leading the big three who gave him opportunities to become the player he is today. If he went to a different team im not sure if we would see the same Rajon Rondo

I would take Rondo as well. I liked Rondo back when he was at Kentucky and I like him now. Brandon Roy is the better player, but Rondo has more value in my opinion because of the position he plays and the high level he plays at. I would never take a high-level wing over a high level PG.

if i was toronto, i wouldve went wth lamarcus aldrige. i thought he was gonna be a superstar by now. if i knew then what i knew now, obviously b roy. i thought he was 2nd best player in that draft.

Iguodala9 I thought Rondo was a steal when Boston got him. I knew he was one of the top 5 players in that draft, but Roy really was the difference between wins and losses right away. Rondo is one of the best point guards cause he finds the shooters real well. He would be nice, but he is helped a lot because he has those shooters: Ray Allen,House,Peirce,Garnett. He does brake the D down and find those guys open, but those guys never miss. Roy will put the team on his back and win the game by himself. I think he would be one of those wing players I would take before the point. He changes your whole franchise. Garnett changed the Celtics franchise not Rondo. By the way Rondo is my favorite player, I’m not bias.

guys don’t count out Bargnani just yet he is on the cusp of being an all-star, he is the 1 reason i can see Toronto trading Bosh , he will be better than him IMO

had the first pick and judging by their needs I think they would take Roy to go along side Bosh and Calderon who I believe was their Point Guard that year, if it is me personally, I’d take Roy of course. R.O.Y, 2 All-Star Appearances, Led team to Playoffs.

i think they can( because they can afford to(Bargnani is a true PF can move back to his naural position) and he is a FA , they can get very valueable assests for Bosh, why even chance losing him when you can get much much better, and not delay the progress of Bargnani

i dont think any team but maybe the Heat, and Lakers would not take Roy. hes the the third best shooting guard in the league, and if Rondo left Boston theyd still be a good team, but if Roy left Portland would fall apart.

That doesnt mean anything. Hate when people do that. If Kobe left the Lakers they would still be contenders, but if Roy left Portland they would fall apart. Does that make Roy better than Kobe? I think not.

im not saying hes better than Kobe. its just the Lakers are an extremly talented team while Portland is a very young team that relies on him for offense and wouldnt have a legit number one option if he left.

The same argument can be made for Boston. They are a talented team as well.

Rondos their fourth option, while Roy is Portlands first option. personaly i think their on a different level.

If Kobe left they still have Lamar Odom, Pau Gasol, Bynum, and Artest.
If Roy left they have Aldridge…Greg Oden? Bayless? Fernandez?

If Rondo left they still have K.G, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce
Roy is valuable to the Blazers, more so then Kobe to the Lakers, but they’d be stupid to let him leave

Roy would probably be a #2 option for Boston behind a healthy KG.

Over Pierce, I doubt it.

id have to say it would be close. but id give it to Roy because shooting guards are normally leaders for there teams, more than power forwards.

and Peirce is aging a couple years ago id take him over Roy but not now.

Pierce is getting up there in age & I have seen him wear down late in games quite a bit. He is still clutch but I think Roy would be the 2nd option. Roy overall is just a more effective player right now.

I would definitely take Roy with the 1st pick in the 2006 draft.

No they wouldnt have. They wouldve let him play 2-guard, remember they had Delonte West starting at the 2 back then.

Roy would be a number two option in Boston easily. Also, No Adam Morrison?!? Haha. I love the ‘Stache…sad career, but oh well. Still young and has a chance. I don’t think Rondo would be the first pick if they re-did the whole Top 10.

I think Houston would take Foye or Thomas over Brewer. Thomas had/ still has a lot of potential and it would have been hard to pass up. Foye could have solved their point guard problems then (no more Bob Sura/ Rafer Alston/ Mike James/ Bobby Jackson point guard by committee.) Tmac was still solid, they probably didn’t think the injuries would be as bad.

Toronto wouldnt take Rondo even if he was better because they already have Calderon.

Roy would go first no doubt. He is arguably a top 10 player in the league and can make the big shot or get his teammates involved. He is a franchise player, neither Rondo, Barganni, Aldridge, or Gay have established themselves as franchise players who can carry a team.

Yeah Toronto would want Roy….its a pretty easy choice.

Also Tyrus Thomas is a better player than Brewer &or Foye IMO.

I remember a during that season of college basketball before the 2006 draft all these websites/media had Aldridge being the #1 pick/best prospect. Aldridge didn’t look very good in the final four that year against LSU. Glen Davis & Tyrus Thomas gave Aldridge problems. But Aldridge turned out to be a solid pro.

predicted Roy to be the rookie of the year. I thought Bargnanni and Foye would be his biggest challenges long term from that draft.

I’m a UT Fan I was hoping Aldridge would do very well and I think he would’ve put bigger numbers up in Chicago. That was a steal for Portland getting Aldridge for Thomas and Roy for Foye. There were a lot of trades in the Top 10 that year. I also liked Bargnani because I enjoy watching International Players play and I was hoping he’d turn out to be just as good as Dirk was, the MVP that year I believe.

Take note, the reason why Rondo exploded was because of the Big Three coming into the Beantown… If they weren’t there, Rondo would be solid but not the player that he is today… Rondo would certainly be a top 10 but NOT ahead of Brandon Roy…

LaMarcus Aldridge was a great pick at 2 but the Bulls idiotically traded him to Portland… That was lame and dumb for them to have traded such an offensive talent in Aldridge… Bargnani would be 3rd or 4th and Morrison will be in the secon round.

That is IF we had to do the 06 draft all over again.

BTW, I am happy for him he got a new contract with the Blazers… Kudos to Kevin Pritchard and the staff for making that deal…

yeah the Bulls would be really good if they had Aldridge, but of course my favorite team the Blazers would be a lot worse so i dont feel bad about it.

1-Roy (HES A TOP 15 PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE)
2-Aldridge (a PF with that much size and athleticism is silly to pass up)
3-Gay (shows flashes of how unstopable he could be)
4-Rondo (a solid 3rd or 4th option, good D, solid vision, great slasher, perfect PG for a team with a bunch of shooters, because he cant shoot)
5-Bargnani (average nba player with plus plus height, has potential, but he is not physical enough to ever be consistent enough down low and be a force on the boards)

Portland easily got the top best guys in the draft that year.
Roy being a top 10 player in the league and Aldridge 20 10 guys don’t happen often so you can’t pass that up.

3rd and 4th is a toss up between Milsap or Rondo. Rondo hurts you a lot offensive b/c he can’t shoot and teams tend not guard him and Milsap might be able to average 20 10 with d williams at the point

Powe is not that good, he rarely starts and I dont think he starts on most teams. In a draft, why take a benchplayer 8th on purpose?

to pick rondo over roy. roy is all-around player , who can make the tough shots when needed, plus hes a smart player as well. he just one of the guys that every team wish they had. rondo on the other hand is not that great. and i was the biggest rondo fan out there. like i said before you put rondo on a team like the kings or bucks . and see if he’ll still put up them type of numbers there. he cant even make a shot like that. why do you think teams dont guard him like that plus you have to worry about the others(allen, pierce, kg) now roy can go to the worst team in the league and he’ll still put up the same exact numbers.

To be honest, I question how much upside Aldridge has left in him.

Thomas, to me, is still rapidly improving. He has the chance to be an All-Star for years to come, a Shawn Marion-type of player.

I see Aldridge as a soft but skilled scorer who doesn’t rebound or play great defense. He’s a good role player, but hardly an All-Star. To be honest, I expect Oden to outshine him this year if he’s given the minutes.

As far as Powe, even if he could have been special, his injuries make him far too big a risk to take in the top 10. He’d probably fall around the 15-20 range in a redo.

I think you throw some of these elite comparisons out there too easily. The other day it was chalmers can be like chris paul, and now it’s aldridge can be like KG. KG does just about everything better then aldridge, not just his aggresiveness. KG was a lot more agile and athletic. He could dribble and pass better. Aldridge, is good and i agree he is better then thomas, but he is primarily just a shooter.

he has skille at drivin but he doesnt use them enough, i agree its a longshot but if he bulks up and uses his attacking skills he could be amazing dont forget hes only a year older than Thomas. another plus is work ethic i dont think Thomas has enough of one to be an All-Star but Aldridge plays with a chip on his shoulder.

Tyrus Thomas seems like one of those players (see: Tim Thomas) that EVERY YEAR is going to be his year to blow up…. I dont think he will ever play up to his potential… I dont see it.. His handle is shaky, his mid range game (improved a little) is very streaky and is an area where he lacks confidence, and he just looks like he is lost on the court sometimes… Personally I think he is a 6th or 7th man on a championship caliber team.. I dont think a team can with a trophy with him as their starting PF….
