kotyParticipantWho do you think will have the best season as an incoming freshman?
My choice is Derrick Favors. This kid is a freak physically. He has the athleticism and build to dominate most of the post players in the ACC, maybe the country. And he isn’t just all athleticism, he has skills. He has ball handling skills that permits him to start fast breaks. Even though his offense game is not great, he is still good down low and can step out and shoot from about 15. However, his defense is what separates him from the other incoming freshmen. He is a terrific shot blocker because of his long arms, timing, and leaping ability. Look for him to average 2 blocks a game. Also, he is a tenacious rebounder and will most likely average a double double because of this. With his presense down low with Gani Lawal, GT will have no problem in the post offensively or defensively. No team in the ACC will be able to match their size and strength. I see Favors averages on the season as about 16/10/2.

JNixonParticipantDerrick Favors, for the reasons you mentioned above. I think he’ll average about 19/20 ppg and about 11 rebs, and 2 blks. He will take the low post scoring load off of Lawal (who isnt a truly great offensive talent) and Hewitt will run the offense through him and I think Tech will have the best rebounding team in college basketball.

auberParticipantI’m going to say it’s going to be Ater Majok. Kids got serious game and is going to prove why he will be a first round pick next season “IF” he decides to play college basketball.

WildDudeParticipantMy moneys on one of two players who are great scorers and both have skill that will be able to make an impact immediately…
1. John Jenkins from Vanderbilt- was considered the best shooter in the class and has a smooth stroke and averaged over 40 ppg in high school shooting nearly 50% from beyond the arc… and hes going to Vanderbilt in which he will be needed to score right away, look for him to make a Sylvan Landenberg-like impact… he wont change the program drastically but he will be able to score.
2. Micheal Snear from Florida State- they will have a tough adjustment after losing Toney Douglas who provided nearly all of the scoring, although I put him second because the likes of Chris Singleton and Solomon Alabi could step up, most likely Singleton will be able to up his scoring to 15-20 ppg.
Sleepers: Andre Dawkins from Duke who graduated a year early from high school to enroll since they lost Elliot Williams… He may be able to step in and average at least 10 ppg they didn’t ask him to check his records for nothing. He WILL play immediately.

Da1potParticipantFavors will be the impact freshman, he will be like Beasley but not quite as good stats.

Pierre JordanParticipantMichael Snaer, my man need to work on his handles but he has a STROKE…. I love that. But my boy Derrick Favors is gonna tear it up.

juicejc1ParticipantNC will be able to check G Tech in the post they have ed davis and thompson and zeller…..look for henson to make an impact as well

gatorheelsParticipantWildDude- that was very smart pick talking about Jenkins. I go to a lot of Vandy games and the one thing they are missing is a deadly outside shooter. I think Jenkins will be very solid. It is easy to get a lot of open 3pt shots playing in Vandys’ offense. Jenkins will be needed to score because Vandy is a terrible offensive team (at least they were last year).
Some guys that aren’t getting much love now but will definitely make a positive impact for their teams are Dominic Cheek (Villanova) & Milton Jennings (Clemson)
As far as what freshman has the best season.. you have to think Derrick Favors as far as stats go. I mean he will have to score & rebound to make GTech competitive. Obviously John Wall is good too but he has a lot of talent around him & won’t have to do as much as Favors.

quincey hodgesid have to say lance ,avery bradley, and Royce White is my sleeper..this kid has a nba body already and very good skills on top of being a hard worker….i cant say cousins because there are alot of times that he plays lazy

romeeezybabyParticipantWashington has Isiah Thomas as their starting PG, and Louisville still has Edgar Sosa. It’s going to be tough to get their shine with proven upperclassmen that play the same position of them.
I like the Favors pick because he’s going to walk in and get his share of shots, especially since Tech’s go to post player Alade Aminu graduated.
Another player to look out for is Kenny Boynton out of Florida. We already know he’s a high volume scorer, and with Calathes (Florida’s go to guy last season) off to Greece, it shouldn’t be no problem getting looks for the Gators.
Oklahoma’s Keith “Tiny” Gallon, and Texas’ Jordan Hamilton will get their opprotunity to make an instant impact at their respective school

JNixonParticipantBoynton should light up the scoreboards…but can do anything else?

jordanrose13ParticipantI like the Cheek choice, but I think another Wildcat, Mouphtaou Yarou will have an even bigger impact, because he has a good chance to start, while Cheek will have trouble getting consistent minutes along with the rest of that backcourt

ball4life66ParticipantNot sure why people keep saying that Favors will have such great stats and why Wall won’t because he has so much talent around him.
Georgia Tech
Derrick Favors top 5 pick 2010 draft
Gani Lawal 10-25 range 2010/2011 draft
Iman Shumpert top 10 pick 2011 draftI don’t think Wall will score a ton of points because he is not a great scorer.

quincey hodgesmight be beause walls job will be to pass more…not sure where u are getting wall isnt a great scorer from though

Knicks21Brandon Triche will have alot of chances to score next season
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/02/2009 - 12:39pm #194708

romeeezybabyParticipantLike Gordon, he will immediately come in and be asked to score and be relied upon to be the go to scorer. I really think Florida will be a surprise team in the SEC, with players like Chandler Parsons, and Alex Tyus being upperclassmen.
A player to keep an eye on his Georgetown transfer Vernon Macklin who was never able to find his niche with the Hoyas. Look for him to make a positive impact as they continue to wait to look for Kadji, and Vargas to continue growing as players.

adjose5ParticipantGaddy will start at point and they’ll move IT off the ball at the 2. Edgar Sosa didnt start last year and I think Siva is going to come in and take his spot

McWinningParticipantim choosing Avery Bradley. he could lead Texas to the national title, hes a good fit. and when you mean impact im guessing you’re meaning helping their team get wins.
