valentinei like the kids potenial as much as the next man but when you sit and think about it what exactly has he done?.. he did get mvp of the vegas summer leauge last year but as i recall didnt randy foyle do the same as a combo guard trying to play pg? Yet it didnt translate to the nba regular season. plsu he cant seem to unseat steve blake from the starting spot ( and i like blake being a big maryland fan but hes a average pg at best). I was one of tghe guys saying man bayless will be this or that but if he really is so good how come he plays so little? and i know protland wasnt ready to include him in any trade talkes because they wanted to see him progress during the season and show the potenial they saw in the summer leauge but now they are willing to trade him after year one. Seems like they dont see him getting much better then a undersized sg or else im pretty sure they would keep him. Of course i dont know for sure but it is pretty interesting.

xbadgerhustlerParticipantI would just say don’t be too quick to judge. He played on a very good and very deep team last year. They finished 3rd? I think that’s the way it should be, a rookie shouldn’t really be getting THAT many minutes on a really good team.
‘he can’t seem to unseat….’ give him more than a year! McMillan trusts Blake a lot.

Knicksboy34ParticipantI agree with QH………..
He does not get off the bench in Portland…he is not a PG. He is more of a combo guard.

rvirsalParticipanthe was supposed to be good playing alongside brandon roy. he can get the ball up the court and then pass it to roy who likes to initiate the plays for portland. while on D, he’d be guarding the opposing team’s pg. i dont know why it didn’t work out for him coz i thought portland stole him when they got him at 11 (traded to them by indiana). bayless can score at will, he’s quick and he’s not ego-centric as the media portrays him. in the few games that he had decent minutes (24mins up), he actually had some decent outings, incosistent but that’s how most rookies are supposed to be anyway.

Knicksboy34ParticipantI think at this point…..he is not a centerpiece for a trade.

quincey hodgesdont get me wrong i like him also but hes shown that hes a combo guard more then a pg even though we are hoping that he can be a point guard just like with randy foyle

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantIs Foye really a point guard? I don’t watch much games from him besides when he was in college and he was a scoring guard so kinda like bayless.

quincey hodgesnope foyle is a shooting guard..they try to play him at point but it doesnt seem to work
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/29/2009 - 6:08pm #192859
xbadgerhustlerParticipantwho cares whether or not he;s a PG… positions matter less than they used to. he’s a basketball player.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/29/2009 - 6:12pm #192862
quincey hodgesteams care thats why alot of players get traded or dont start much because they cant play the point and are too small to start at the 2..the ones that end up starting and doing well are the ones who either have a very very good jump shot or can score almost at will like arenas, ben gordan

IndianaBasketballParticipantUnless Portland trades Steve Blake, I don’t see Bayless playing much this upcoming season either. The Blazers are stacked.
PG: Miller/Blake/Bayless/Mills
SG: Roy/Fernandez
SF: Outlaw/Batum/WebsterI’d like to see Bayless get an opportunity to play, but a couple of things are clear… 1. He’s NOT a point guard and 2. He won’t be getting major minutes in Portland anytime soon.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/29/2009 - 6:15pm #192866
FutureoftheGameI think he could play decent along side Miller. Afterall, Miller didnt mind playing with the small SG in Philly. I forgot his name. Louis or somethin.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/29/2009 - 6:22pm #192870

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantI don’t think were signing mills. He got hurt and didn’t play in summer league so we didn’t see if he is worth a contract.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/29/2009 - 6:28pm #192871

IndianaBasketballParticipantConsidering the signing of Miller & Webster coming back from injury… Do you see any spare minutes left over for Bayless to see some action???
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/29/2009 - 6:30pm #192873
UofAxWildcatsParticipantbayless has a nice jump shot and is strong and can get to the rim,,, if mcmillian uses him as the bulls used gordon he could be very successful and last year when he actually got some minutes he did a good job,,,,,,,and quincy is FOYE not foyle lol

romeeezybabyParticipant-High School: (5 star prospect, McDonald’s All American, Elite 24 Participant, Top 10 consensus recruit)
-College: (Averaged 20 per game as a Freshman with Nic Wise, Budinger, and Jordan Hill on the same team)
Also named MVP of the 2008 NBA Vegas Summer League after averaging almost 30 per game.
When you’re productive at what you do, and you’ve shown you can be in the early stages of your career, of course you’re going to have higher standards placed on you. Jerryd is still very young, and remember he came out as a Freshman. The NBA is no cakewalk as we all are aware of, some catch on a lot sooner than others. Let’s be reasonable and give him a little more time to adjust to the league.

quincey hodgesthanks twolves although its quincEy not quincy:)

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantHe’s not going have that much playing time. To be honest I would trade him while he has some value. Lets say he does stay in Portland for next couple years, do you guys honestly see him resigning? Doubt that.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 07/29/2009 - 9:13pm #192930

wuteverParticipantRandy foye is a solid player, but at the same time he’s been backed up by injuries. If it weren’t for injuries he probably would be ahead of where he should be right now. He may not be an all-star level player but he is very solid player. He may not be a pure PG, but he can def play some PG if needed for a short period of time. Bayless has the potential and talent to be a better player than Foye, but his game Right now is not on par. Bayless is def a scoring PG or a combo guard. From Summer League it looks like he can score whenever he wants too, he just really needs to learn how to operate a team and cut down on TO. He really needs to get out of Portland unless Portland wants to hold on to him for the future, too much of a log jam at PG now with Miller there.

aj81Participantbayless is ok but ill take monta or louis williams
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/30/2009 - 2:42am #192948

Bryant24ParticipantBayless is a good player he is a shooting guard in a point guard body. He quick as crap and he strong and he got a smooth jupshot but he dosen’t really have point guard skills. U think on any other team he would of been a top 3 rookie but portland just don’t give him the playing time. I think they like bayless because they wont trade him.Bayless plays like Chauncey Billups and Gibert Arenas when they came to the league scoring guards who took a little while to develop in to point guards.

STEVEDOT2Participantyeah^^^^^^ bayless was invited to play for the usa select team this year and last….so ppl arent high on him he can ball cant doubt it and has poteinal…..with if he does get his pg skills down pack?? hes faster the gilbert and chauncy
but i see more of a chauncy in him so far as in career ability to score and get to the line at willbillups averaged 18.5 in college
bayless 19.7 in collegebayless was projected to go third or 4th but slipped in was traded during the draft
billups went third in the draft in was traded during his rookie season
billups has a ring billups has helped the nuggets match the best season record in history he has did so much in ppl compare him to bayless so why wouldnt he be highly touted its note a false prophet
he has ability to be chauncy or a gilbert and thats a hall of fame ceiling but if he dont live up to it he still abe a good player for example jr smith if his iq was a lil higher workerd harder to learn to play better d he a be all star cal
but he isnt but hes still can be a nightmare on any givin nightbayless is 1 of my fav up n coming players
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/30/2009 - 4:19am #192981
STEVEDOT2ParticipantAgreed i see potland being the miller and blake show
i dont see ether mills or bayless getting alot of pt
im high on them both i see mills as a jemear nelson in the making and bayless aint to much to say bout bayless
if there not going to get playing time atleast throw them in the d league ..i know theres nothing like traing with nba talent learing the ropes from miller a great vet blake also working with top trainers but these are two point gaurds they have to learn to run the show let them spend some time in the d league also
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/30/2009 - 4:24am #192983

Knicksboy34ParticipantJerryd Bayless is nothing like Billups.
0- Posted on: Thu, 07/30/2009 - 4:33am #192988

Bryant24ParticipantChauncey had the same problem when he came to the league he was a scoring guard rather than a point guard he play for five different teams before he turned to a true point guard. One of the teams were timberwolves with kg on the team picture what they wouldve done. Jerryd Bayless need to improve his point guard skills then he will become a good player maybe even a great player.

STEVEDOT2Participantyeah your right on target if he becomes more of a point gaurd he will be a way better player in the future. Scoring comes natrual to him and he has the ceiling to be an above average player. Bayless was good enuff to get invited to the team usa select team 2 years in a row bassically every since he was in the nba so if he improves his pg skills I think he will be a good addition to any franchise.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/30/2009 - 9:19am #193096
AZcats09ParticipantIf you watched him play at Arizona, the dude could score at will. He may have some issues playing the point but he can flat out put the ball in the hole. With a little more development he can become a very successful scoring combo, in the mold of former Wildcats Arenas and Terry.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/30/2009 - 12:20pm #193254
quincey hodgesim sure no one is questioning his scoring ability..its the point guard ability thats in question..i cant compare him to billups since billups was bigger and stronger and showed alot of good signs during the season that he would be able to play point. didnt show early that he was gonna be the player he is today though..my thing is how long do we continue to talk about someones potenial before we are ready to see results?. not talking about bayless specifically just a couple of players who always have that potenial tag
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/30/2009 - 12:42pm #193270
bluedevils12ParticipantBayles is one of my favorite players. i have liked him since high school and even though he doesnt play much im not jus gonna give up on him. the kid can flat out play. i hate the fact that people think he’s fallin off becuz he so called cant get minutes from steve blake. The fact is bayless didnt play much last year becuz he had trouble with the offense and blake was meshing well so portland didnt want 2 messs up the chemistry. not becuz he isnt better. Now with the signing of miller yall are right sayin that he may not get many minutes. If i was bayless i would seek a trade 2 new york or somewhere where he can go out and jus play his game. Its kinda sad that he is in a logjam and ppl dont get 2 see jus how special he is.

McWinningParticipantif you avarege 20pts a game in the summer league everyones going to be high on you.

bluedevils12ParticipantVon wafer avergaed 20.2 a game last year in the summer league. nobody was high on him
0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/31/2009 - 5:57pm #193903
McWinningParticipantBayless avareged 28. he pretty much dominated the summer league and took home the MVP.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/31/2009 - 5:58pm #193904

Knicksboy34ParticipantHe is more of a combo guard then a PG, Portland needs a true PG for the future
0 - Posted on: Sat, 08/01/2009 - 9:59am #194157
quincey hodgesthats why i say you cant take alot of stock from what people do in summer leauge…at least at the point guard position since thats the hardest position to leanr in the nba plus the talent level drops off so hard from a starting summer leauge pg and a starting nba pg
