ckowalskiParticipantSeems odd since the Hornets are trying to shed salary

JNixonParticipantIts like trading for the same thing, and Okafor’s is a vastly overpaid player as well. Would be stupid for the Hornets.

FUTURE GMParticipantThere basically the same except Okafor is under sized and can’t play above the rim like Chandler

McWinningParticipantOkafors better than Chandler though, i think this is a good move for them.

d-grizzlyParticipanti don’t see the point of the trade. n.o is screwed for salary now.

ckowalskiParticipantTrue Okafor is better than Chandler but he just signed a 6 year $72 million deal. That’s not a very moveable piece if he doesn’t work out in New Orleans. I’m also skeptical about Okafor being shopped after Charlotte just made a big deal about how they should reward his production and show their loyalty to him since he was their first ever draft pick. The only benefit I see out of this is New Orleans gets younger and Okafor has a better offensive game than Chandler. Okafor doesn’t have Chandler’s injury history yet but with Sean Marks and Hilton Armstrong as your backups he might be looking at playing 40 minutes a game.

doubledribblerParticipantAgreed that the trade seems odd and that Okafor is better, but maybe there are some other players involved in the deal that help the Hornets get rid of a few bad contracts. Afterall, the Bobcats did take on the saliaries of Diaw and Radmonovic last year.

Pistol Pete. The PelicanParticipantactually tyson is 5 days younger so age wasn’t a reason for this deal but i think okafor has more upside with chris paul than chandler, he averaged 13 points a game for his career with chris paul that will probably increase by 3 or 4, and the defense will be the same but it may take away from the fan =base because okafor is no where as flashy as chandler.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantThey both get hurt a lot but Okafor is much better. He doesn’t need a point guard like CP3 to be effective.

KevinDurantRocksParticipantTake the salaries out and look at it from basketball perspective….. I like this trade for hornets but Charlotte is just screwing themselves over just like they have everytime
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 12:37pm #191342
JordanC20ParticipantAs a hornets fan I love this trade…Chandler got where he played careless last season and acted like he didn’t want to do anything. Okafor on the other hand is a better defender a automatic double-double and he also works hard on the floor.

Knicksboy34ParticipantCharlotte pulls this move…no playoffs IMO
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 12:47pm #191349
NarcParticipantI agree…No playoffs for Charlotte if they pull this move. Plus, I think its a bad deal for both ends. In New Orleans, Chris Paul won’t be able to throw alley oops off of the pick and roll to Okafor. He isn’t nearly as athletic as Tyson Chandler. And Tyson Chandler can’t score unless he is getting thrown alley oops, so in Charlotte, who plays a half court style system, won’t be looking for those types of plays every time down the floor.

Knicksboy34ParticipantNarc (Excuse me if I sound Bias)…would this deal…push the Knicks maybe into that 8th spot?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 12:54pm #191351
maravich44ParticipantI agree. Both players are in systems better suited for them as is. Okafor is the better player. When Chandler was on Bulls he was worthless except for putbacks without CP3 getting hm ball where he could score. Felton/Augestine won’t do what Paul did for him.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 12:54pm #191352
NarcParticipantI don’t know if its enough…but it certainly helps. This is a bad deal for both teams, but worse for Charlotte. They couldn’t score to begin with, and adding Tyson Chandler, won’t help matters at all.

the_truth34Participantif this trade goes down more likely the hornets will move to Seattle we will have a team again
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 3:09pm #191426

Sorry.Winning.ParticipantI think the trade will be good for Okafor now he wont be the first option down low since he will be playing with david west but now new orleans front line is kinda small, but im looking for west to be more efficient and okafor to average more rebounds
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 3:25pm #191438

sheltwon3ParticipantCharlotte is looking to cut money because this moves makes not sense. They are too close skill wise to say that you are trading for a better fit. The only Way I see this work is if they trade Chandler for Okafor then trade West for a top shooting guard or something then pick up some free agent big like Mikkie moore who can run and catch lobs until next years draft which will have a lot of bigs. This trade still looks stupid because next year draft is to deep with bigs to make a move for a big that hurt you financially.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 4:24pm #191471
chibulls88ParticipantThere has to be some expiring contracts and young guys thrown in this trade or this deal makes no sense.
(ex. Raja for Posey, Nazr and Radmanovic for Peja, Wright and Mo Pete for Raja)
Otherwise its gonna be like people said, Charlotte loses their low post threat and New Orleans saves a couple million to only delay the problem.

McWinningParticipanti think a Paul, West, Okafor, combo would be amazing. maybe they can bring in Marvin Williams.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 4:40pm #191487

Knicksboy34ParticipantThat’s actually a good idea
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/27/2009 - 5:49pm #191559
