thetruthParticipantyou always here talk about underrated players in the game. but you never hear about underrated coaches such as jerry sloan who only had what maybe one or two bad seasons in his resume. rick adleman (if i even spelled his name wrong.) stan van gundy since hes been in orlando . we have gotten better each season under him. can you think of some other underrated coaches.

JoeWolf1Rarely mentioned with the great NBA coaches of all-time but with 4 NBA titles a coach of the year and a 6.75 i think he has to be mentioned more often then he does, Definitely underrated as a good coach and not a great coach

rickyD510ParticipantRick Adelman if it wasnt for Phil Jackson he could of won at least 3 titles with the kings and blazers

auberParticipantTo me it’s always been Eddie Jordan. In my mind it was him and not Byron Scott that made that Net’s Offensive prowess run so efficiently. He got his shot in Washington and was released because of injuries. Hopefully he can do some damage in Philly.

marcusfizer21ParticipantI love Rick Adelman and Jerry Sloan… I felt they could’ve won a title except they were at the wrong place and at the wrong time…(Jordan era)But I love these coaches… They, to me, are the coaches that deserve a standing ovation.

McWinningParticipantLarry Brown. he made Sheed a winner and Billups a true point guard and iss already turning Charletter around.

TyroberParticipantthis no doubt goes to Jerry Sloan. he is by far the best coach ever to not win a coach of the year award. its still amazes me he doesnt have one and deron hasnt made the allstar game yet

BosteritoParticipantI think Mike Brown is overrated. He had Lebron do everything, in my mind he didnt do anything to win coach of the year. A lot more people deserved it.

maravich44ParticipantRick Adelman and Jerry Sloan both played for the very underrated Dick Motta who also coached Bob Weiss and Matt Goukas. Motta always stressed defense and high percentage shots in a very methodical offense. I think Sloan got a lot of his toughness playing for Motta. Sloan and Norm Van Lier formed the toughest backcourt in NBA history IMO.

sameolGParticipantLarry Brown is the most underrated of all-time, he took the Sixers to the Finals, Detroit to win a ring, he makes a lot out of a little

Adi JosephTo me, the six best coaches in the league are easily Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, Gregg Povovich, Jerry Sloan, George Karl and Rick Adelman. I’m not sure if any of those guys are actually underrated though.
I will say, I feel very confident in saying Doc Rivers, Mike D’Antoni and Mike Brown are not quite up to the level of those five. I would say D’Antoni and Rivers are in the next eschelon of coaches, while Brown is just average.
Nate McMillan might be a bit underrated by the majority of basketball fans, but I think some people are maybe giving him a little too much credit for winning with the Blazers, who are just loaded with talent.
Byron Scott, though, is probably the best choice for an underrated head coach. He was ousted in New Jersey simply because the personel wasn’t there. And he has overachieved with the Hornets on a dramatic level the past two years.
Of late, I would add Stan Van Gundy to the list. He’s been criticized for in-game decision making, but there are so many other things a coach has to do in this league that he excells at that I don’t think he gets nearly enough credit for.

MattissickParticipantMy most under rated coaches are Rick Adleman, Reggie Theus, Scott Skiles, Avery Johnson
