This is just my opinion after watching the games this weekend, but at this point in time I would draft Ja Morant before Zion. I really think Zion’s  lack of heighth is going to catch up with him when he gets to the NBA. He’s going to have to guard taller and faster people there. At 6’6" I think he’s going to struggle, especialy with his indurance also. Saturday when MS opened up the first half with an up and down pace you could see him sucking air, and that’s when he picked up two fouls. Yes he has incredible leaping ability and is built. But I just think at 6’6" he’s not someone I would take over Ja Morant, who for a point guard is a perfect size, and has great ability.

Maybe. Who knows. Might depend on fit.

I did an April Fool’s Big Board on another site and had Tacko Fall at 2. People aren’t sure if I am serious or not (neither am I). I just really really like Tacko Fall.

I also dropped RJ Barrett — a lot.  He might be the next Bo Kimble or Tony Wroten instead of the next Kobe.

Why would you not take a 6’6" player at no. 1? His leaping ability is second to none and you can’t tell me nowadays’ power forwards would bully him. He plays much bigger than his size and defensively won’t have any issues in the NBA, will probably be able to guard and switch across 5 positions, he’s that quick.

His motor is incredible, finishing ability both in traffic, on putbacks and in transition is insane and will get incredible stats from day one because of it. There’s just no viable scenario in which he’s not a great player in the NBA, unless he gets hit by an injury. Just take a look at his ridiculous synergy numbers:

If you’re thinking that Ja is the next coming of Westbrook and you need a point guard, then sure, go select him no. 1. I just have problems picturing him having anywhere close the same type of impact defensively as Westbrook, especially when he lacks like 30 pounds. He will probably be the worst defender in the NBA next year, much like Trae is this season.

And Zion is box office, a superstar before he ever stepped foot on an NBA court. You can’t ignore that fact, either. Problem with the Griffin comparison is that Blake never possessed the defensive potential of a Zion, who by all accounts should be an All-NBA type of defender. And Draymond, another common comp, can’t score to save his life.

Put shooters around Zion and let him go to work. Once he improves his jumpshot (which is not broken, by the way), he’s going to be a beast. He already is, in fact.

Zion is going to be selected 1 overall, and if a team thinks Ja is better they will trade down and get extra asset. Just like Celtics did with Fultz.
I like both a lot, way more than Barret btw, but I’ve said for some time that I think Ja will end up being best player of the draft although after all I once believed believed Bennett & Thabeet were going to be good players, so what the hell do I know 😀

This is gonna come back as another one of those "what was I thinking" threads, like the Doncic ones when people questioned his athletisism, jumpshot and competition. Morant maybe the best player in this draft, but Zion is a sure thing and is unique, never seen before. You gotta pick him.

Think of it from a GM perspective.  You are handling a terrible team if you have the number 1 pick.  If you don’t pick Zion and he becomes a top 5 player it’s basically a fireable offence.

I’m rolling with Ja over Zion also. Dominque Wilkins was 6’8 and didn’t have a huge impact on the league as far as winning is concerned. I don’t think Zion is going to be able to live up to the hype. He is no where near lebron at this age. Lebron was a passing genius already. Zion will never be the best player on a championship team. As soon as his athleticism goes he will be irrelevant.

I see since I have posted this more of the so called experts are also saying what I said, that Zion might not be the first pick.

Seattle Super Chronics had a very good point on this also. For the long term and years ahead I just think picking Ja is the best choice. Sure Zion looks good in college against a bunch of players that won’t ever make the NBA. But it’s going to be a whole different game when he gets to the big leagues everyone he goes against is going to be taller and faster than him. Plus with the 82 game schedule he’s going to run into the rookie wall that he will incounter.

5 years down the road I’m going to be looking good on this.
