Do the Pelicans play Davis now? I would dare say they sit him for good.  There can be no positives in him getting court time in my opinion. It takes away from the development of others and puts him at risk of serious injury which will worsen any  return in a future trade. Also, why give yourself a worse shot at a high lottery pick?

Really, AD, Rich Paul and the Lakers got their pants pulled down here, it’s poor work from an agent if it means his client loses half a season of his career when healthy, especially after AD saying he wants to move because careers are short.

It would be pretty bad for the league if a to 5 players just sits. If Im a fan, I wanna see him play as much as I can before he leaves, he is special

I think the Pelicans will have to play him or they’ll face the wrath of the league. The  league installed some rules on resting healthy players. I don’t know for sure what the punishment would be though.

If J.R Smith, Carmelo etc can get sent away from the team while under contract them why can’t AD especially after he demanded a trade because he doesn’t want to be there.

Good point, that would be pretty messed up if they penalized the Pelicans while it was ok for the Rockets and Cavs.

Don’t know really, the fans will hate seeing him playing while they know it is a lost season already and he is leaving anyway. On the other hand they are still paying the guy and no point of sitting him while he is earning that kind of money.

I don’t like what Rich Paul has done tbh, and more and more I think he is very overrated agent. What he has done with Noel was disastrous and now AD situation? also he was a part of lebron camp who thought that “the decision” is good idea.

What if he has a catastrophic injury? Fck that, I’d make him sit. If the NBA starts telling teams who can get DNPCDs and who can’t, you may as well just do things like rig the draft and let star players get all the calls.. oh wait

I agree it is a slippery slope indeed. I think the big thing is if a major player on a team goes from playing extensively to not playing at all without an injury.

The only case I can recall when the league even said anything is last year when Robin Lopez and Justin Holiday went from starting to collecting DNP CDs. They just received a warning from the league about it.

The whole AD situation is strange because how often does a player demand to be dealt a week before the deadline with more than a year left on their current deal. It’s really abnormal. It will be interesting to see what the Pelicans do and what happens because of it.

He’s already came out and stated he plans to play the rest of the season.

I saw Jalen Rose come and said the same thing I did and now the Pels are gonna do the opposite and let him play. Unless Ricky The Wild Thing Vaughn leads them to win the whole f*ckin thang, then the Pels run the risk of AD getting hurt and ruining any offseason trade.

As a lakers fan, I’m actually really happy the pelicans didn’t accept the offer. It would have been a desperation play on Magic’s part and no player is worth what the pelicans were angling for. If that trade had gone through it would have seriously hindered our ability to build a team around lebron-davis and decimated our future. I hope the offers that the pelicans get in the offseason will underwhelm and they will come crawling back expecting the same package from us. In that case, we’ll have all the leverage and may wind up getting him for significantly less. Even if it means we ultimately lose out on Davis, so be it. At that price, no one is worth it.
