Looks like this year is shaping up to be another good draft. Alot of people seem to be claiming this is a top heavy draft that is weak outside of the top 10 however I think its consistently strong throughout.

Any of Dukes big 3 could paass as a 1st overall prospect. Naz Reid looks like the closest prospect weve seen to Demarcus Cousins. Bol Bol maybe a project but at 7’3 with his kind of perimeter skills many rebuilding teams will be interested in developing him. Romeo Langford has top 5 talent as a combo gaurd that can do everything offensively. Darius Garland looks like a great floor general and theres a handful of versatile wing forwards with NBA ready bodies like Rui Hachimora, Kevin Porter Jr., Nassir Little and Jaylen Hoard.

Heres some guys that seem to be flying under the radar.

Simi Shittu isnt ranked high on mocks right now because he hasnt developed a consistent jumper but he reminds me alot of Pascal Siakam. He has a great feel for the game, and can really handle the ball. His athletisism and defensive versatility will make him coveted.

Jalen Mcdaniels isnt getting minutes at SDSU but hes one of the most talented players in his freshman class. Reminds me of Jonathan Isaac but his frame looks like he will be able to add weight alot easier. If he doesnt get minutes this year he may go unnoticed and be a steal.

Keldon Johnson is a natural scorer. He just knows how to put the ball in the whole in a variety of ways. He plays alot bigger than he is (6’6) and has long arms to help. I think he will rise up draft boards as Kentucky continues to recieve exposure as will Tyler Herro.

And the list goes on. Moses Brown, Quentin Grimes, Colby White, Darius Bazley. Im looking at a team like Boston who has 4 late 1st round picks at the moment and they sshould be able to find good value with those assets whether they keep or trade. Drafts just keep getting stronger which is a good thing for the sport.

I like the prospects, but I don’t think we should get too hyped. Point guard crop this year is really underwhelming, Grimes, Garland, Morant seem to be only noteworthy options, maybe Tre Jones or Jaylen Hands. Honestly think all of them top out as backup point guards in the NBA. Centers are also questionable, I like Bol, Reid and Gafford, but they’re far from ‘safe picks’ at this point I think.

Last 4 drafts also figured to be great, but how many truly great, superstar-type players have they produced? Towns, Simmons and Porzingis are the oldest/best of the bunch, but is any one of them ever on LeBron/KD/Curry/AD type of level? They all still have very blatant flaws at this point.

The same can be said of Booker, Mitchell, Tatum, Brown and all of the other promising 22-and-under players. Booker still far from a leader of a winning team. The other three have shown promise, but their efficiency has dipped noticeably. Still don’t know what to make of Markkanen. Ingram still doesn’t do anything really well. Jamal Murray is shooting 28% from three. Lonzo figures to be the Draymond Green of point guards. Doncic, Young, Fox, Jaren have been good, but they have a lot of work to do.

It’s still early of course, some players don’t truly break out until their mid-twenties, and in all honesty, those drafts have been pretty deep, but all I’m saying is we need to pump the brakes a little.

This class seems really similiar to the top 5 of last years class in terms of talent. Barrett, Reddish, Zion, KPJ, and Reid all compare pretty simiarly to last years top 5. The Duke big 3 are all fantastic, KPJ has a Harden like game, and Reid almost looks like Jokic out there.  Bol has a very high ceiling but he’s raw, same with Little. Im also intrigued with Langford, Smith, Garland and Grimes. Very talented class overall.
