EndlessknightParticipantIs Morley a genius or insane. Personally I go with insane. Butler, and his current contract situation, isn’t worth that.

But I agree with Brent, this move would be disastrous long-term for the Rockets.

OhCanada-ParticipantFour 1st round picks would help them win now. Just flip those picks for proven veterans if you choose to there are plenty of teams interested in collecting assets. Either way they are 2-4 with Jimmy Butler playing so they gotta make a move.

mowestenParticipantFour? That seems a little extreme. However, if the Rockets added Butler and kept him, perhaps they are in the top 5-10 teams in the league throughout those four years. If that’s the case, why not. If he has his head screwed on straight, he makes them a contender for the forseeable future, and those picks aren’t really all that important.
Trade some dudes that are haning out at the end of the bench for some second rounders and invest heavily on scouting and hope they hit on a few of them.
The thing that screwed King is the guys he traded picks for were already old and had run their course and then, boom, they sucked and the picks became incredibly valuable. Barring injury or all-out disaster, I don’t see that happening with Houston.

It’s a very different trade, as Butler is still in his prime more than KG and Pierce were…but come on. 4 first round picks??? I understand Jimmy is a VERY impressive player, but this seems overkill.
Regardless, I’m sure the Wolves somehow get in their own way. This would allow them to have Boston level flexibility.

What made the Boston trade absurdly good was the fact that the Nets were a consistent lottery team just one season after the swipe of the century.Even if Paul’s joints and muscles turn to dust, Houston will have both Harden & Butler at the tail end of their primes to go along with Capella upfront. Even if they digress the next few seasons I don’t see them as a lottery team in the foreseeable future, health permitting. And if they somehow pull off a championship run it will be worth it. All that being said four first is ALOT but I believe the opportunity to acquire a player of Butler’s (& Tomball Native) caliber is will be too much to pass up.
Teams with small windows that are close to the mountain top have to take risks or else what’s the point?

RioRepParticipantThe first thing the TWolves should do is to fire Thibodeau.
They traded Lavine, Dunn, Markkanen for Butler, hoping he’d be the guy once reunited with Thibs.He’s barking style at the bench does not fit well with today’s NBA. Bring someone new like a Brad Stevens or Fitzdale take the four picks and, along with KAT start over again. Maybe they could even throw in Wiggins and Teague in another trade.
They´re going nowhere fast anyway.

EndlessknightParticipantDue to the “Stepien Rule” I’m guessing this is 2 picks and 2 swaps. The more I think about it the more this makes sense for the Rockets. Given the the Rockets will most likely be a playoff team for next 3 years those swaps will never come into play thus it’s only 2 late first round picks for Butler.

Thus the two non-swap picks would be ’19 and ’21. The ’19 pick would be 25 or great and highly likely the same would be true for the ’21 pick.

timinator1ParticipantI heard these will be four picks over seven years, since you cannot trade picks in consecutive years. Making this the ’19, ’21, ’23 and ’25 picks, and letting them still keep three first round picks if things go south.
I think on the surface, this looks like the terrible Brooklyn deal with the Celts, but in reality, it’s probably trading a 25th pick, a 28th pick, a 20th pick and a 14th pick (approximating). I think it’s an overpay by Houston, but not an egregious one.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantThe “sources” are Daryl Morey. He leaks to ESPN, more or less, before every draft, free agency, and trade deadline that the Rockets are active in anything and everything. If the Rockets had been off to a better start, the “sources” wouldn’t be talking. Four first round picks sound different when the fine print is left out. Let’s say that what was told to ESPN is all that there is to know, and let’s say Thibodeau was opposed, we already know that Glen Taylor is involved, so do we really think he wouldn’t override Thibodeau if the offer was that good?
