I promise I’m a Lakers fan but these rumors about KD coming to LA piss me off. I don’t know how true they are, but I have a feeling they might be.  And it sucks.  I know that KD coming to my team to pair up with Lebron would probably guarantee a title or two or three.  But you know what?  Sports are about more than just titles.  There are only thirty teams in the NBA.  Someone has to win.  Is there anything inherently spectacular about a team winning a title?  Not really.  It’s about thirty million times more likely than someone winning the lottery or becoming president.  I know this may sound cliche, but what makes a title special is not the win itself, but how it is won.

There is something special in the struggle.  Of overcoming the best in the world.  Of somehow coming out on top when a team is able to match you punch for punch.  There is something special about the struggle of getting over the hump, about watching the young guys slowly mature into stars.  I know I’m supposed to root for my team to win at all costs, but KD coming here would cheapen it for me.  If they win a title in 2020 it’ll be with two guys who made their names somewhere else.  It won’t be the Lakers winning.  It’ll be  KD and Lebron.  Michael Jordan was synonymous with the Bulls.  Magic with the Lakers.  Russell with the Celtics.  I don’t think a Lebron/KD duo would be the Lakers; they’d only be synonymous with themselves.

I apologize if this sounds like a "first-world-problem," since I’m basically complaining about my team having a chance to be a perennial powerhouse again.  But, at a certain point, what am I even watching?  It’s starting to seem more like tennis than basketball.

i couldn’t agree more. Buying the best team just feels weird. I guarantee Durant is not fulfilled like he hoped to be. LeBron’s Cleveland title is worth way more than the Miami ones. Curry, Thompson and Green got to have much more satisfaction with the first title than the last. Had Durant stayed, OKC could have possibly  beat the Warriors.

Hayward to Boston may feel similar.  Hayward in Utah would be pretty sick right now.  Build something.  That is what makes Duncan one of my all-time favorites.  He built a franchise and gave two to three other guys a hall-of-tame career.  He also turned a bunch of regular guys by NBA standards into a special team.

I love what Utah and Indiana are doing.  Build something great.  That is much more impressive than buying talent

I am sick to death of all these rumours – prob started by LA media or fans.

So many all-stars have been "rumoured" to go to LA Lakers over the years.  Westbrook, Love etc etc the list just goes on and on.

Durant said he would like to reitre a warrior

Honestly hoping you’re right.  It’d be nice to see the Warriors lose because they got old, not just because their core broke up.  That’d feel more real, at least.

The only reason I see K.D doing a move to L.A is 1 of 2 things:

He really really wants to play with Lebron and cripple GSW at same time.

    or

He wants to jump ship before GSW ages and to mentor Ingram/Kuzma..

Personally I don’t know what K.D could legitmately do that would A) Validate his career to what I think he may be searching for and B) What team he could go to that would make sense for him to change the Narrative of being Bandwagon/coat tail chaser(ring chaser essentially).

The only teams I see making sense would be OKC(to pull a lebron post heat cavs ring),A team that is sort of like L.A with a young up and coming squad that just needs that one last piece to vault them back up into contension-Suns with booker and young core could be interesting they do need a legit P.G first though.. Or a team like Philly so he could play out East(do a opposite of Lebron going out West lol) and then win it all..

Lakers add a legit All star level S.G  and a respectable center and move forward with the Celtics sort of team: Really good vets(Horford, iriving and Hayward) and still have some promising youth for the future(Taytum,Brown and Rozier)..

So in that case: C-Insert name here PF-Bron SF-Ingram Sg-One of following Klay,Beal or Middleton PG-Ball Bench Kuzma,Hart,Rondo,Zubac just make sure you give him constant mins and then make it to the playoffs and firing then.. Vs Super team that is a mix and match and throwing youth to the side to win now…

Fans like you are rare, fans who actually get it. Yes I’m a Warrior/Durant hater, but it’s not because they’re "too good" it goes much deeper than that, I hate them because they make the other 29 teams irrelevant. They make the regular season, offseason, etc. all irrelevant.

I’m a Thunder fan, but I’m first and foremost an NBA fan. I was watching the NBA well before the Thunder existed. Growing up in a place with no professional team I was able to be open and like multiple teams and players.

These super teams the past few years have really killed the competition and is killing my excitement for the game in general. I remember being a kid and playing NBA Jam, every single team in the league had a couple All-Star caliber players, that isn’t the case anymore. Now days the top few teams have 3-5 All-Star caliber players while the rest of the NBA have 1 or none. The NBA is so extremely top heavy.

I would have no problem if the Warriors won the next 10 championships as long as they actually had 10 or so legit teams that were a threat to them, but that just simply isn’t the case. The lack of true competition is saddening to me.

Who could say with KD honestly. After he joined the 73 win Warriors team that lost in 7 in the finals and beat his team in 7 I believe Durant could do anything. KD’s move remains one of the most surprising moves I’ve ever seen from a competitor though I understand why he’d rather play with the Warriors instead of playing hero ball with Westbrook every year

KD going to LA same reason Bron goes..Hollywood money. He’s invested in the tech stuff in the bay now he sees what Bron is doing in LA…Basketball players these days are about building a brand they don’t care about going against each other and seeing who’s the best like back in the day…And I ain’t mad at it. Keep your money..everybody else is.

So when Lebron went to LA he said his goal was to "build a dynasty that would last". At first it seems strange that a 33 yr old whose prime is slowly ticking away would be thinking long-term in regards to his basketball future. However, I kind of have a theory of what Lebron may have meant when he said that and if it actually pans out he could wind up looking like a genius. I think he is looking beyond his prime and maybe even beyond his playing career entirely.

My theory is that Lebron wanted to go LA not only for business reasons, but because he knew that they would have the cap space to sign Durant and him and Durant secretly had a plan in place to play together. The Lakers sign Durant next summer, and Lebron (knowing his days of being able to carry a team are dwindling) transitions into being the ultimate role player as he ages while Durant takes over as the primary scoring option while he’s still in his prime. Durant gets to be the man and continue to win championships and MVP’s, while Lebron adds a couple more and can carry and lighter load and maybe extend his career a few more years. All the while, lonzo/ingram/kuzma continue to grow and gradually improve and take on bigger roles without being forced into larger roles too quickly.

A few years down the line, lebron maybe retires and moves into a front office role with the team, Durant starts to age and move into the background, and the young guys enter their prime and start to carry the team. Who knows, maybe by that time Lebron James Jr. is in the NBA and winds up on the Lakers. So there is just a clear line of succession from one generation to the next. This could actually be the ultimate long-term move.

I know this is all completely speculative and kind of far-fetched that this could pan out but I’m just throwing it out there. Maybe Lebron going to the Lakers really does make a whole lot more sense than it originally seemed to.

honestly I’m guessing your goal for this thread and the reason you got so many + votes is because you want to come off as laker fan who doesn’t want to buy a ring by bringing in stars. But reality is the fact you even buy into these KD rumors makes you look like a biased laker homer. How about we just focus on our team as it is instead of crying about the possibility of stars who aren’t even free agents yet

I am excited about this year’s team but the downtime between summer league and preseason gives me time to worry about terrible things such as us signing the 2nd best player in the world 😉  I’m in grad school; it’s my job to be depressed about stuff that hasn’t happened yet.

I was looking forward to a proper Rebuild when the Lakers had all those top Lottery picks the last 5 years but b/c of a some bad luck & some Terrible scouting & Drafting (how do u miss Porzingus & Tatum???)

When you look back at the Showtime Lakers & The Shaq Lakers – 2 of the NBA’s ALL Great Dynasties those teams were built b/c Dr. Jerry Buss & Buss was a singular genius! A child of extreme poverty, Buss had a legendary work ethic & Always played the "Long game"

The moves he made that led acquiring Magic Johnson, James Worthy & Kobe Bryant in the Draft, trading for Kareem & signing Shaq by being the only GM in the NBA to understand that a small, now clkose Loophole would make Shaq a Free Agent if the Magic Ownership failed to act & Buss – being the entrepeneur he is Anticipated that the opportunity Would materialize so he laid the ground work, planted the seeds & when it did occur Buss was prepared to pounce!

So I admire teams like the Golden State Warriors who built their team. I don’t think I Know that this is why I admire both Boston & Phila so openly on this site b/c they both engineered brilliant Rebuilds.

Don’t get me wrong I am THRILLED we got Bron b/c Lebron is Bigger than the NBA – I believe this man could be the potus one day & I Luv that he i going to spend the remainder of career in Lakers Purple & Gold and I hope they win a Title but even if they do not I am so happy!

And I know if KD were to sign I have to be honest w/ myself I’d be thrilled too but the rational side of me Knows that it is Not good for the NBA for the big teams to simply Purchase NBA Championships. The NBA is already by far the Most difficult team sport to a Championship in all of American Sports so I truly dislike the idea of Any team being able to more or less Buy a Ring.

What I am Hoping for is that the Lebron multiplies the Development of our young core exponentially & maybe we land one more really good Free Agent – an All Star level not a Super Star & I DO hope Durant leaves Golden State & I would LUV it if we were able to win a Title THAT way – w/ Lebron leading the way but our young players serving a Major Role!
