Snatalini247ParticipantI can’t believe I’m saying this but I actually feel kind of optomistic about the future of the Knicks. After all those years of trash team management and player development they might actually have something. Their fans are still a little cap space nutty like Lakers fans which seems like it can hold teams back when they dump players for space and don’t sign anyone but the core seems cheap right now.
We all know what Porzingis is but I have a good feeling about the development of Knox, Mitchell, Hezonja, and Trey Burke. Knox and Mitchell both looked great in summer league. Knox seems like a really hard work and players like that rarely fail. Mitchell may be raw but I honestly think he probably wouldve went much higher in the draft if he actually played this season. Major potential as a switchable defensive anchor. Hezonja reminds me of the classic Chauncey Billups type that just needed a new team and some playing time to show his skills. I’m the most bullish on him but I have a weird feeling he’ll make the Knicks look smart. Finally, the return of Trey Burke is astonishing. He showed he can definitely be an NBA caliber point guard. If he contains to move the ball and score this well and adds a little more on D he has solid starting distributor potential.
They should also have enough to add a Max player before they resign Porizingis who will probably also get the Max. The Noah contract is still an albatross and I’m not sure if they can stretch it though. I think any of the availible shooting guards would fit well next offseasion especially Butler and I’d even throw a max contract at klay thompson just for the heck of it. Kemba Walker would be a good fit too though I don’t think he should get a Max Contract.
All in all this would be nice to see them start to develop well because I’d like to see a nice little rivarly with the Celtics and my Sixers over the next 10 years.

220ParticipantYeah the Knicks look like they made some great selections in the draft with Knox and Robinson. Assuming Kristaps comes back healthy in time that’s a strong foundation. I like the new GM Scott Perry and I think as long as Dolan doesn’t meddle he can help make a strong team. I also like Dave Fizdale and I’m glad he got another shot after he was basically fired for not getting along with Marc Gasol.

The GoatParticipantThe free agent targets should be Kyrie and/or Jimmy Butler. If Porzingis comes back moving like a slug though, it’ll be a very hard blow to take.

goldie92689ParticipantSometimes a young player slowing down is not a bad thing especially for someone so skilled. Less options may mean he chooses his most deadly weapon.

treytalkssports.comParticipantThe Knicks are far more promising than they had been, but I’m gonna rain on the parade a little bit.
They don’t have cap space to sign two max guys next year, and they don’t have the roster to lure just one elite guy (although they might be able to lure Walker or another second-tier guy).
Porzingis’ health is a major, major concern. 7’3” guys with foot problems don’t do well in the NBA. On top of that, his FA in 2019 looms large as he will likely demand a max contract. He might not get the full max (although some team might try with as much space as there is next summer), but he will get close to it. The risk of giving that much money to an injury plagued player is concerning.
I really like Frankie and think he has potential as an all-NBA defensive player, but I’m a bit worried about his slow-footedness on offense. He doesn’t have a real offensive skill, even though he isn’t terrible at any of them. That’s not the kind of versatility you want.
I really don’t like Knox’s game. He created considerable buzz in summer league, but that was mainly based around one game that he caught fire. Playing against NBA-level defenders, he did not look very good. I think he can be a starter, but I’m not sure he is much more than Wilson Chandler from a few years ago.
Robinson looks like a find in the 2nd round, but by "find" I mean an NBA-caliber player, not an all-star. He looks like a mix between Cauley-Stein and Ryan Hollins. That’s a legit NBA player, but not a franchise-changer.
They’re fine. Really. Maybe "meh" is a significant improvement over the purgatory of the last 4-5 years, but as an NBA fan, I haven’t seen anything that got me excited enough to watch them on league pass.

1) They can create the cap space to sign two elite guys.

2) Injuries are a part of the game. He doesn’t have foot problems.

3) Frankie is a poor man’s gary payton or maybe a derek harper type. He’s a 12pg 6apg 5rpg 2spg player. Thats fine.

4) Wilson Chandler? Knicks fans would take that in a heart beat. lol. He’s a 18pg 3asp 6rpg player. That’s fine (he just needs to be more efficient) – he’s a solid starter-borderline all star.
Robinson looks like a find in the 2nd round, but by "find" I mean an NBA-caliber player, not an all-star. He looks like a mix between Cauley-Stein and Ryan Hollins. That’s a legit NBA player, but not a franchise-changer.
5) Robinson potential is more like Marcus Camby or Rudy Gobert. That’s borderline "franchise-changer". He might not get there, but there is reason to be hopeful.
Finally. They should have fun, but lose a lose a lot of games next season which means they’ll get a top 5 pick.
Next year will be rough, but the future is promising.

treytalkssports.comParticipant1. They’d have to trade away Noah, Hardaway, and Lee to sign two max guys. As constructed, the’d need to trade one just to sign one max guy.
2. "Injuries are part of the game" does not really undercut the significant injury (and stamina) concerns Zinger has displayed so far, and the physiological concerns of a 7’3” basketball player.
3. I’m with you on Frankie, but his efficiency needs to improve.
4. Wilson Chandler is not a borderline all-star. In his prime, he was a solid starting forward.
5. I’m not with you on Robinson. I can see the potential, but he has terrible feel. Gobert and Camby had/have excellent feel.

cominup7ParticipantA lot of it depends on how Knox, Frank and Robinson develop. None of them are really bluechip, cant miss guys…they’re more boom or bust. But I applaud the Knicks FO for swinging for the fences at least with a lot of their summer moves, including signing Hezonja.
They know Porzingis will probably miss a big chunk of next season so now they can get an extended look at the young guys this yr and see who develops.

Jr. ROXASParticipantI want to see how Trey Burke fares starting. First that pops into your eyes when you watch him play last season was his defense, and yes it was very surprising. He has very quick feet and can stay in front of players and move with them no problem. He is also excellent at denying the ball and is an absolute pest there. I never saw this side of him in his earlier years.
Now that he has vastly improved the one thing people complain about him for, I think he could be a good starter caliber PG in this league. He can shoot off the dribble from both mid-range and three he has an elite handle. Hope Fiz gives him a chance.

HitsterParticipantWith Porz being out, it would be the perfect year for the Knicks to all out tank but also give the younger guys some playing time. If they could get a top 5 pick in 2019 draft, Porz back playing and one good FA next summer they would look quite a decent team.
With a renewal due for Porz, they will likely only have room for one FA next summer even if they manage to trade or more likely stretch Noah.
Realistically the Knicks should be able to attract a good FA given their location and being a big market.
If they were really clever, they should identify early who is their top FA target and more importantly who would likely sign with them.

goldie92689ParticipantNets might also be in the mix, they have done nice job of picking up young players to develop without draft picks. This division may be setup for a nice 10 year run. Nice rivalry markets too. Hopefully the Nets can carve out some market share, they messed up big time with the name change to Brooklyn Nets instead of New York Nets.
