This guys career has really fallen off a cliff. To the point where I haven’t even heard one rumor of any team considering him in free agency. Hard to believe just 3 years ago he was being viewed as the possible top player in his draft class. Is there any team you could see maybe offering a one year deal or should he just be resigned to playing overseas at this point?

Might want to take a chance in this guy. Only thing that concerns me is that LBJ might have a hard time operating on the basket since he clogs the lane. I mean he has no reliable jumpshot to be a stretch 5 which is an asset to any big man today. And of course, there is still those lingering issues on his defense. Unless he’s willing to put an effort to the glass aka Tristan Thompson role, I don’t see why it will work out.

the court b/c he is such a liability at the Defensive end

But even at the offensive end, he can score in the old back to the basket Iso style but he completely Gums up a team’s offense b/c the ball Stops moving & there is No passing

It looks like the old early 90’s vids of Charles Barkley calling for an Iso on the block & then waving off the other 4 teammates who drag their defenders to the other side of the court & they all watch

Of course even that could never work today b/c teams can play Zones & do a number of other defensive tactics all designed to Remove that from the game

In the modern NBA teams want their C/5 man to rebound & defend – all the way out to the 3pt line preferably – Okafor can do NONE of those things. Okafor does Not rebound & he is an Awful defender – he can not defend the Rim but he also can Not drift out & follow his man beyond the 3pt line

Look up Okafor’s Analytics when Phila did play him —- The negative points for & against when Okafor is on the court do Not even look REAL that’s how bad they are

Now I dont want to call Okafor lazy & trash the kid – even though Many do b/c he is Always out of position, never gets hustkes up & down the court. But imagine if you were doing an activity where you were clearly Terrible & a Massive anchor on your teammates – I think Okafor realizes he just does Not fit in the modern game & this has Messed up his head SO badly (as it would Anyone) that’s he would literally Rather be on the bench

In all seriousness it is a very sad situation

I mean, on one hand I get that he doesn’t fit in today’s NBA as a franchise cornerstone, but a guy with his size and post ability has to have value as a first big off the bench type guy, right? Right? Or maybe not…

You mean like a poor mans Enes Kanter? He’d have some value in that role, but it would be very roster dependent. You would need an efficient 3 and D PF to make up for his shortcomings.

But in a world where Enes makes 18 million a year and Okafor is essentially out of the league… Is it an attitude thing? Cancer type reputation? What is the difference?

Could be work ethic. Okafor looks like he is in horrible shape.

Yeah it must be a work ethic or general attitude problem because Okafor was in great shape last year going vegan. I thought Brooklyn would absolutely find a use for him, but he was largely irrelevant for them as well. I never thought he’d be a great NBA player because of his deficiencies, but I didn’t imagine he’d be useless so early on in his career.

hard to see Okafor not getting interests from teams.. 3 years ago, he was averaging 17 and 7 then his numbers declined drastically. He’s still young and I hope teams will give him a chance. Charlotte can be a good destination for him, they’re in need of bigs. Mozgov sucks!

Those were largely empty numbers like Michael Carter Williams rookie year. It was amazing because despite his numbers the 76ers were statistically worse in nearly every category when Okafor was playing.

He’ll be signed eventually. He’s had a phenomenal summer in regards to working on his game & especially his body. He’s clearly dedicated himself to himself this summer because the dude looks great. I can’t imagine he won’t be on someone’s roster come Oct.

With Big Al being released we could throw the MLE (or part of) to Okafor to be our 3rd string C.

Monroe while not great in postseason was very good during the regular season for the Celtics. A good match-up type player. I can see Okafor being that.

I just think he has to overcome issues also. Feel bad for him, hasn’t had the time he needed to fully develop. I thought the Celtics would be a good fit, but they drafted Williams. Not sure we have the room now.

Theres a lot of experts on here who  claimed he was a future all star and mortal lock in the top 3 that are suddenly very quiet..

He could get a job as an extra in a movie, perhaps he could play a stiff if they are still making CSI somewhere

Im shocked Okafor has been so terrible.  In his one year at Duke, he was unguardable.  He was also one of the worst defenders I had ever seen at any level of basketball.  He’s not a terrible athlete.  I think his attitude has just been horrific ever since he got paid.  Jayson Tatum was a below average defender at Duke, but with the right attitude and effort improved greatly in his rookie year and is on his way to becoming a star.  The whole fight thing he got into in Boston outside the club was a terrible look and I think this guy just doesn’t get it.  He’s an NBA player, he just doesn’t have his head on straight.  His NBA career might be over.

The Bulls are paying Christiano Felicio to be in the NBA when they could get Okafor for cheap! Felicio wouldn’t even be able to last in the euro league!! He is completely useless devoid of a single average nba skill and the Bulls extended him!

We are tanking anyway, get him and play him. Take a chance, but GarPax is gutless and won’t.

the word was he didn’t really enjoy the game much despite being so physically gifted. Maybe he got used to the checks and now realizes he has to take it seriously to keep them coming. In pro sports, finding guys who have that hunger seems like a major differntiator for success.

I would have prefered Okafor(playing and Enes kanter light role) to anchor our bench offense, however I guess Melo is probably being moved there with the Noel pick up and Jermi Starting..

However My guess is he ends up on any of the following:

Portland- To eithe replace Nurkic if he wants to much or To help their bench out.

Cleveland- To get any young pieces that they can post Lebron…

Dallas-To help with offering a different look for their Bench and help their scoring out.

Pacers- If they want to replace Jefferson with a younger version of him.

Spurs-If they believe he can turn into the Tim duncan projection may work..Especially with Timmy being willing to help Pop out.

Boston-May be willing to but this if Monroe is let go…

He’s only 22n years old, has a collection of skills, and needs the right coach to use them. He’s not perfect for sure, but there are so many bad teams that this kid should absolutely be the 2nd unit Center.

He’s better than the following backup 5s currently under contract: Miles Plumlee (ATL), Mozgov (CHA), Zizic (CLE), Moreland (DET), Boban (LAC), Kornet (NYK), Dakari Johnson (OKC) and Mahimni (WAS). He’d probably do well as a backup to Pao in SAS, learning from him for a year or two.
