According to reports (Woj), the Pacers are planning on offering Aaron Gordon $20+ million per season.

Firstly, would/should the Magic match since Gordon is restricted? Would Gordon be a good fit on the Pacers?

It sucks for Orlando because I don’t think he is a max player and yet they would be losing the one truly solid and proven young player they have.

I think Aaron Goron would be a good fit on the Pacers though I wonder if they could get someone similar for less. It’s funny that Oladipo and Gordon on Indiana seems so much better than it did in Orlando. I doubt the Magic match as they may be trying to create a new identity and it’s likely they’ll let a lot of guys go to establish it.

I think they match..can’t just "let him walk" and if they start off to a bad season they can trade him before the deadline if they really don’t want to deal with that contract.

Magic will match on Gordon. He’s still so young and I believe he can be a Blake Griffin level player, and consequently this team would have its first franchise player since D12.

I agree. I can’t see the magic letting him go. Worse players have gotten better contracts.

No idea if it happens, but an Oladipo/Gordon combo would be fun to watch as they’re entering their primes.

Just looked it up, and Oladipo’s only 25 and Gordon’s 22. Feels like they’ve been in the league a long time. Barring injury they’ve both got YEARS of progress before hitting their primes.

Signing Gordon eats up all their cap space. There r reports they’re interested in Smart. If they sign Gordon they have to move some players to make anymore free agents signings.

Would the Magic match – Yes

Should the Magic match – Yes

The Magic are not an attractive free agent location. They have to build from the draft. Gordon is only 22. He has time to develop. $20 million seems like the veteran’s minimum to the Biyambo deal. Isaac, Gordon, and Bamba could be the future 3,4,5 of the this team. Give them time to gel and develop. Trade Vucevic, wait out Biyambo, and stockpile assets.

With Thad opted in and Turner and Sabonis would the Pacers make a big money offer to Gordon I wonder. Thad could move on next summer but it would reduce playing time for someone.

The Magic probably think that Vucevic will go and might see Bamba and Isaac as their long term frontcourt but both need time and to lose Gordon for nothing would be a blow. Plus Gordon or Isaac can play some SF so it would be possible to fit all in.

Were we losing Thad Young I would say go for it, but now that he has opted in I am quite content with going after a guy like Will Barton to bolster our scoring and see how all Turner’s work is paying off. (Add Sabonis, Leaf and Holiday to that list)

If we do an upgrade I’d hope it’s at SF.

I heard they were also high on Barton and Tyreke Evans. If they strike out, Barton would be a nice fit at that starting lineup with Dipo both as a creator and a spot-up shooter.

I see Barton as a 6th man, I think we maintain our starting line-up unless we get an undeniable upgrade.

The pacers are better off doing the following:

Baring something crazy their starting lineup was alright(as long as last season wasn’t a fluke that is) its more so shoring their bench up with some more fire power: Barton and maybe another wing who can give them reasonable defense and between 8-12 ppg…

As people forget Orlando with Gordon and Oladipo as their main pieces was kind of average…
