This is unfair. The Celtics got a lottery talent at the end of the first round. Moreover, he fills a need and will play limited minutes- a perfect situation for an energy player.

Williams is a gem to have if your goal is to beat the Warriors in a seven game series. This guy can guard 1 through 5 and can block jump shots.

I posted the controversial opinion last month that I’d rather have Robert Williams than Mo Bamba. I’m not sure if I stand by that considering Bamba looks like he can shoot. But I can say, without hesitation, that this is the best value pick of this draft. More importantly, it makes Boston more likely to win a title.

a big Bamba guy personally, just feel like his hype is a lot based on his measureables and shot blocking, but Robert Williams could be better all around. If Robert Williams was a true 7′ he might’ve been the #1 pick in last year’s draft. Hot take, but the way GM’s covet uber athletic true 7′ it wouldn’t have surprised me.

As a Lakers fan I wanted them to take Robert Williams/Mitchell Robinson for a rim protecting big, which Lakers desperately need or Dzanan Musa which gives us shooting which we also really need.  No they take Moritz Wagner aka Channing Frye 2.0, bad pick could have gotten him in the 2nd round.

I was hoping for Robinson or Simons in the first but am staying optimistic about Wagner. I should’ve known that Magic and Rob would go for somebody from a blue blood program. I want some perimeter shooting wing in the second round or even a combo guard. I think they’re going to want somebody who can run and gun. Issuf Sanon is my wild card and I wouldn’t mind it, but once again he is not a blue blood…. I could see them going for Trier or Newman

Excellent value at this point in the draft, this is a guy who’s been compared to D Jordan and will be able to have Brad Stevens motivating him. He can be insurance in case they don’t get that superstar big this summer too, and develop into the starting  C in a few years

It was that simple and we even had a big need. You roll the dice at that spot. Great pick, type of guy that could be better in NBA.  Perfect team for him also.

That no one would return Ainges calls. Turns out  he didn’t have to do anything. The Celtics got arguably better by everybody else’s stupidity. And the Lakers I thought for sure would jump on him.

You already have a stretch big, yet they take another one. Would have been fine if it was best player available,  but he was a reach!

You cannot blame Ainge if a good prospect has fallen top him. A lot of us had Williams going to Denver at 14 and even if he fell other teams were potentially after a big man so could have taken a chance on him in mid to late first round.

Lakers took Wagner as their big at 25. I thought Philly might have taken a big at 26 as they hadn’t taken one with their other picks.
