ropeParticipantGiven his injury situation from last year and what you know from reports, would you trade for Kawhi Leonard? I’d be very reluctant to do so at this point. None of the competing explanations for the injury sound good. At least from this perspective, he seems like damaged good. Darn shame, but sometimes reality bites.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantIf he is back to 100% or at least 80% game shape I could see them trying to keep him.As the injury he has is what Blake G had and it took a little bit of time to get over he took more time off and didn’t try come back during the playoffs which could help the rehab proces.
However if he has legit said he wants out I could see the spurs either trying 1 of 2 things.
either trying to get some younger pieces that suit his play style more.
or
Cashing in while he has some value and getting the besta available deal.
Where you trade him to though would be subject to do you want him in the west or out east so you don’t face him in the playoffs and who can give you the most pieces to help your rebuild.

bigfungotitdone5timesParticipantim a life long spurs fan and curious what people think would be the best deal the spurs could get for him and

cohenbc1ParticipantDepends on what the Spurs know about his health. If the Spurs believe he is 100% or soon to be there, they should only trade him now if someone blows them away with an offer (Irving + J. Brown; Covington + Saric + lottery pick; Ingram + Kuzma + future picks). Otherwise, make him start the season as a Spur and raise his trade value.
If they know he’s still got injury problems though, then it’s probably best to get whatever they can for him now, before he’s exposed.

EndlessknightParticipantI would be open to trading for him but I wouldn’t give up anywhere near what people on the forum thinks he’ll go for. The guy is coming off a serious injury and yet to prove he’s healthy. He only has one year on his contract and currently disgruntled. Just not worth the risk to gut your team for.

whiteflashParticipantThink that’s where part of the issue is; the team was saying the injury wasn’t serious and he could play, and Leonard said otherwise. If he’s healthy and has his head screwed on straight I’d trade for him, but part of me wonders how much of what he’s showed the last two years was the Spurs system? Some dude’s are system guy’s, and Leonard may very well be one of them. Honestly, if he really does want out and gets his wish I think he’ll regret it pretty quickly.

mowestenParticipantI definitely agree with this — be careful what you wish for. The Spurs won 50 games without him with a cast of rejects, misfits and 40 year old dead legs this past season. To me, the Spurs may not be for everyone, but there is a reason there hasn’t been many star players bolt out of there in their prime (In fact, I’m not sure there had been one).
It seems like the first to do so may find the grass isn’t greener elsewhere rather quickly.

whiteflashParticipantExactly. Also, the Spurs organization is widely regarded as one of the best in professional sports, San Antonio (I mean the actual city) treats their players like royalty, there’s very little distraction from both inside and outside sources, no state income tax, etc…. Obviously don’t know what’s happened between them, but if this is a case of someone getting their pride hurt and "making a stand" this could be a cutting of your nose to spite your face scenario.

Scrooge McDuckParticipantWhen was the last time the spurs made a trade? 2011? Their roster is regularly trash and they’re always good. I think most NBA teams know that.

kobyzParticipantSpurs get: Tyson Chandler, Josh Hart, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, 4th pick
Lakers get: Kawhi Leonard, Chandler Parsons
Suns get: Pau Gasol, Patrick Mills, Lonzo Ball
