US born players playing in overseas

This is always an interesting topic, as there are players that we’ve followed throughout the course of their career only to end up playing overseas instead of playing in the NBA; where I’m sure they all dreamt about playing in one day.
A player that always comes to mind is former UCLA Bruin and fellow Long Beach native Tyus Edney. Now granted, this guy is way older than I was. Although, I always heard stories about the legend that is Tyus Edney when he was playing for Long Beach Poly. He had a brief stint with the Kings and Celtics.
Unfortunately he was never able to stick around the NBA. Since then, he has been playing in Europe where he has made a name for himself.
A couple of other players that come to mind are; Sam Clancy (USC), Jason Gardener (Arizona), Michael Wright (Arizona), Pierre Pierce (Iowa), Davon Jefferson (USC), Travon Bryant (Mizzou), and Ricky Paulding (Mizzou).
I would like to know who are some of your favorite U.S. born players that are now making a living playing professionally overseas.

  he brought his New York swagger to North Carolina State where he had a very good career. He was projected as a lottery pick after his Sophomore year, but IMO waited too long to bolt for the NBA where the scouts were able to pick apart his game.

should do an extennsive article on former college stars who are now playing in europe. I would be curious to see how a lot of names from the past are doing over there. I thought Sam Clancy was gonna be a solid nba pro.

  of these shorter power forwards we see that are now having a lot of success in the NBA. The guy had it all; mid range jumper, long arms (which made him USC’s all time leading shot blocker), great rebounder, but best of all the guy had a ton of heart. He suffered a major knee injury (that sealed his fate in the NBA) during the NBA predraft camp which caused him to fall to the 76ers in the second round in 2002.

Yup, Ray Allen backwards. I loved him at Villanova and still think he has a decent chance of coming back to the states one day to play in the NBA. He’s got some pretty good stats for a team in Italy and a pretty good highlight tape too(a couple nice dunks). I’m pretty sure in his short stint with the Celtics he had 20 pts in a couple games, but he ended up being able to make more money overseas.

Jimmie “Snap” Hunter is who i think is tha best U.S player overseas, he’s from Memphis played a year for tha Tigers, bumped heads wit punk ass Tic Price, left and went 2 some Divsion 2 school where he was tha best player in their league and i think they won a championship. he always plays good in NBA summer ball when he’s here but majority of his playing days have been overseas and i think he’s a great player.

Yeah, he was only 6-7, but he had a huge wingspan, played above the rim, and could shoot out to 18 feet with confidence. I wonder if he would have made it if he did’nt lose his whole rookie season to an injury. I thouhgt he was the second best prospect to come out of the pac 10 that year behind only Arenas.

Im a WVU guy so I wanted to see Gansey and Pitsnoggle play in the league. Now Pittsnoggle is a 6th grade teacher in WV and an assistang coach for the middle school, and nobody knows what Gansey is doing. He had a stint with the Heat and he got Merca or somethin and lost like 20 pounds off his already slight frame. I heard he was in the DLeague but I never could find him on a team and then I heard he was overseas with Pat Beline. But I kind of want to see what Devindorf does over there.

Wasn’t aware the Brad Miller 2.0 no longer plays basketball. Good to see him coming back home and giving back to the community. Gansey had some game, I remember him lighting up Aaron Afflalo when WV came to play UCLA at Pauley. It still surprises me to see Chris Quinn get PT for the Heat, Gansey should’ve gotten his minutes LOL.
Since you’re from WV and are familiar with the hoops program, do you know where Majestic Mapp ended up? That guy was lights out in High School! Come to think of it the 2001 High School senior class all ended up flopping; Majestic Mapp, Carlos Hurt, Jerome Harper, Omar Cook, and Rashad Carruth have fallen off the face of the Earth!

Nah, those guys are way before my time. I just graduated in 07 so that was when i was in like 5th grade. Sry man. But yea, I really though Pits and Gansey were at least going to sit on a bench somewhere.

Haha… I wasnt saying you were old. lol Its just at that age, i was playin in like a rec league and I never watched basketball unless it was the team my dad coached. BTW it was the Baylesville Rough Ryders. I loved how they spelled Ryders. But I dont remeber any specific names from back then that were big time to anyone outside of Wyoming County.

Troy Bell played in Italy last year.
Ed Cota was one of my favorites of all time and the main complaint with him was his shot. You can’t tell me some Jacque Vaughn had a better jumper then Ed.
One other play who was the face of college basketball is thinking about officially retiring from competitive basketball as of this spring is Gerry McNamara.
A player I have kept track of over the years and probably find it the hardest to believe he hasn’t found at least a backup role in the league is Darius Rice. Anybody have recent news on him?

my favorite all time Duke player- Trajan Langdon is still raining 3s on the best team in Europe- CSKA Russia- 10.4pts, 43% from 3 and MVP of the EURO CUP FINAL 4
Eric Devendorf is gonna do work wherever he goes..just my opinion, I’m a fan of his game
Toby Bailey was doing well over in Spain n Germany- 12 pts, 4.4 rebs
Seamus Boxley- went to Portland state, is a solid player over in Holland- getting like 14 a game
BTW Mike Gansey played in Germany this past year- 8.7 pts, 4.3 rebs
William Avery is doing his thing over in Greece- 14.0 pts, 3.3 ast
Jelani Mccoy- China…he is killing over there, 24.6 pts, 11.8 rebs….man I wish he woulda worked harder to stay in the league
Marcellus Kemp- Nevada (Italy) getting 20.7 pts, 4.9 rebs
Tre Simmons- UW (Israel) 4.3 pts
Loren Woods- Germany- 12.3 pts, 9.1 rebounds and 2.4 blks
Darius Rice is playing over in Uruguay
Josh Childress- Greece, 13.3 pts, 3.6 rebs
