festar35ParticipantWhat do you see Cleveland doing this summer? I want LeBron to stay where he is, not that I’m a fan of his or Cleveland but to me it just seems right.
The best way I could see that happening is the Cavs approaching one of 2 teams who have All-Star talent but clearly entering a rebuild phase. Those teams are Charlotte and Memphis, the players are Kemba Walker and Marc Gasol.
Option #1: Charlotte: Kemba Walker for 8th pick, Jordan Clarkson & Cedi Osman – Hornets would love to package Kemba with one of their bad contracts, but putting the 8th pick and 11th pick means they can truly start a rebuild along with Malik Monk who seems like he will be a very good scorer in the NBA or package them so they can move up in top 5. Clarkson and Osman are youngish guys and match the salary necessary.
Cleveland: Kemba is a 20ppg scorer who can get his own and create for others as well. Although a similar talent to Thomas he is bigger snd more importantly he has a far better mentality than Thomas. Stil only 27 years old as well he would run with LeBron and Love for more than just one season.Option #2: Memphis: Marc Gasol for 8th pick, JR Smith, Jordan Clarkson & Larry Nance Jr – Again the attraction is the 8th pick and whatever they go for with 4th pick they can pick in another position at 8. (e.g. 4th – Bamba 8th – Porter) Clarkson, & Nance are still youngish talents and LeBron might be happy to see the end of JR Smith.
Cleveland: Now I get that Gasol is a more traditional C and is 33 years old, but he has never relied on athleticism to get things done, learnt to shoot the 3, is one of the best passing C’s in the game and can offer something I think the Cavs have always needed in a defensive presence in the paint. I think Love is still best suited to the 4-spot and could benefit from Gasol’s post ability. He is also a playmaker that can take away from LeBron having to do it all.Option #3: Cavs decide that LeBron is leaving and decide to pick BPA with 8th pick, trade K-Love for a late 1st rounder. Play those picks lots of minutes and see how the 2019 NBA draft plays out. Maybe Utah or Portland would be interested as they have contracts to match and 21st/24th pick. Love & Gobert would be an interesting duo.
No question tough for Cavs as would be in luxury with a losing team.0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/08/2018 - 7:03pm #1118995

cohenbc1ParticipantIt depends on whether Cleveland wants to just improve its roster any which way and hope for the best, or wants to specifically design a team capable of beating GSW and Houston. Because while I love Marc Gasol, I can’t imagine any way he and Kevin Love could play at the same time against those teams.
I like the Kemba idea, especially if the Cavs believe he can pester a CP3 or a Curry on the defensive end.

mowestenParticipantLove to Utah is really interesting. Love, Ingles, Mitchell, Rubio, Gobert. Interesting.

TRC1991ParticipantUtah needs more athleticism, not less of it

BigChamp12ParticipantI think the Kemba trade can definitely work. The Cavs will have another All Star that can get his own shot and create for others, allowing Lebron to play off the ball. I would also see if we can get Dwight in the deal by throwing in Tristan Thompson. The Cavs need as much talent as possible so I think they have to upgrade at Center. Kemba alone won’t get them back to the finals, considering the Celtics are loaded.
I don’t think Marc Gasol could help that team win a ring. If the Cavs trade with Memphis, it should be for Conley.
The Cavs, imo have to try hard to land Paul George. They may even have to put Kevin Love on the market in hopes of another star caliber wing.

festar35ParticipantI like that Howard idea but the snagging point would be that he only got 1 year left on contract and Thompson has 2 years.
Of all the Cavs big contracts they are 2 years left at the very least.

celtics1982ParticipantIts the only way. Keep Love, let him go off with LeBron. Trade him at the deadline. Move what you can, but its going to take a few years.
In all reality I hope LeBron stays, but he won’t.

jtthebrickParticipantIt was hard for me to grasp the premise of the thread. Once I got down to #3 I realized that you’re talking about trades to try to build a team about Lebron. He’s leaving and that’s that.
The NBA is about stars and relationships. There are no other stars in Cleveland. Love is washed up and it turns out he was overrated in his Minnesota days to begin with. There are no players in Cleveland of any talent or substance that LeBron has a relationship with. He doesn’t have a good relationship with management. It’s going to be that the Rockets find a way to make room, he goes to LA with George, he signs with Philly, or he finds another landing spot alongside his good friend Chris Paul. He’s long gone and it’s so obvious.
There is zero reason to stay. Cleveland got their championship and some Finals fun. Lebron redeemed himself. They should be happy, Lebron should be thankful, and it’s time to strip down and rebuild.
Trade Love and any other veterans you can for young talent and picks. Clarkson and Nance I guess are young enough that they could hang onto them, but I wouldn’t hesitate to trade them if you can get good assets in return. Neither of them are anything special. It will be 6-7 years before Cleveland can possibly compete again.
For most sports fans you want your team to win 1 championship in your lifetime and you got it. You lucky lucky Cleveland fans should smile and enjoy as the rollercoaster tilts downward.

DJR1957ParticipantIf not, the Cavs may chase CJ from the Blazers. I doubt they have enough to get him, since Kevin Love is not what he once was and the Blazers are happy with Zack Collins.
