A short while ago there was some debate on a thread as to what Wilt Chamberlain could and couldnt do, discussion about his vert and athletic ability and how difficult it is to compare eras. Many people said theyd seen no footage at all so this may give a glimpse.
7’8″ wingspan and really could run. The guy was a legend and was a freak for any era in my book.

whiteflashParticipantChamberlain was 7’2", 300lbs playing in an 11-13 team league full of 6’7-6’9" centers and war veterans. He couldn’t dribble or shoot, and has the most overblown athletic numbers of all time. Literally every single claim about his massive vert, speed or bench press was a lie created by Chamberlain himself. There’s nothing in that vid that shows anything impressive, and again, he’s doing it against guy’s who worked at gas stations in the off-eason. There’s a ZERO PERCENT CHANCE that Chamberlain could play today.

holefillers1ParticipantYou are a dope. Half the rules in college were changed because of his skill set. He led the league in Pts, reb, Ast. Arnold Schwarzenegger talked about how much weight he could lift during the filming of Conan the Barbarian. He made shaq look small.. Zero percent chance you should have commented on this at all.

whiteflashParticipantYet he only won one title, padded his stats like no one before or sense and there IS NO PROOF of any of these supposed physical feats. Lol at made Shaq look small. Shaq was bigger, stronger, faster and infinitely more skilled. Chamberlain was a pathological liar, and that’s been documented. If he could do even half of the crazy sh!+ he claimed, there’d be footage/proof. There’s NONE. End of discussion. You’re a dope for buying this nonsense.

The GoatParticipantLook no one would score 100 or routinely grab 40- 50 boards in a game today, but you really need to get your head examined if you dont think he wouldve succeeded at every level in any era. He wouldve been a top 10 scorer and rebounder today.
If he was in this draft and you went and drafted Ayton, you’d be looking for a job a year from now and Ayton is a consensus top 3 pick

whiteflashParticipantYou are out of your mind. Rewatch that vid. See how stiff and unathletic he looks on those dunks? That’s against guy’s the size of your average 2-guard today. His biggest opposition was Russell, who’s shorter and skinnier than Tayshaun Prince. I’m not diminishing what he accomplished then, but he wouldn’t stand a chance of making the league today. This is basic common sense.

The GoatParticipantId usually just let your comment pass cos your life is about as relevant as the last piece of skidmarked toilet paper i flushed, but i am in the mood to respond.
I have no doubt in my mind that you are an absolute moron in all walks of life. Arrogant little keyboard warriors with no insight and that have obviously never played or been involved in the game at any decent level do not have better judgement than the consensus of NBA players, coaches, media and fans that have Wilt firmly placed in the top 20 all time.
Whiteflash also sounds like a naked guy in a trenchcoat that waits outside a school.
Now, fxck off.

whiteflashParticipantI played in college, professionally (Not NBA) and now coach. You write "I have no doubt in my mind that you’re (spelled the correctly for ya) a moron in all walks of life", yet you let an innocuous post by an anonymous source ruffle your feathers so bad you resort to 3rd grade insults and name calling. That’s pretty damn sad, man.
Also, learn to spell and use proper grammar before you call someone a "moron".

The GoatParticipantLol you might want to read it again whiteflush

whiteflashParticipantMy mistake, was going off of memory. "Cos" isn’t a word, you need to capitalize your "I’s" and my point still remains; Chamberlain wouldn’t stand a chance today, and only someone with a really sad life would resort to personal insults over an internet disagreement. Hope things pick up for you, bud.

BallerScriptParticipantDespite all the mystery surrounding Wilt Chamberlain, his speed at 7’2" is unquestionable.

cohenbc1ParticipantThat was awesome, thanks for posting it. Wilt spiking a volleyball was frightening!

TRC1991ParticipantBill Simmons’ comments about Wilt in the Book of Basketball were extremely eye-opening…Wilt may have been an amazing talent, but he was extremely under-accomplished in relation to his talent

Ahkasi ClayParticipantAnd he could score, nobody going to bag more scores than him.

mowestenParticipantYou can debate Wilts physical feats all you want, but here’s a truth, a man who was essentially the same size as Shaq, and in truth probably a little bigger, played every minute of every game with the exception of an ejection and averaged more minutes played than was possible as he played all of the overtime’s as well.
There’s not been any other 7 footer in the history of the game with the stamina required to do that … if anything, playing every minute of every game would have been much more difficult back then. Anyone who has been to a modern game knows that there is an impressive amount of standing around for TV timeouts and general nothingness.

cohenbc1ParticipantI always ask the same question of these people who claim that old-time players couldn’t even make an NBA team today: At what point in history did the game change so dramatically? What year did this happen?
You say Wilt couldn’t make an NBA team today. Could Kareem? Well, in 1971, when young Kareem led the Bucks to the championship, a 34-year-old Wilt still managed to average 21/18/4, on 15 FGA per game, while playing 44 minutes a night. So obviously Wilt could more than hold his own in the era when Kareem was arguably the best player.
So it follows that Kareem also sucked by today’s standards, right?
