weballin.netParticipantI won’t argue about the fact that he’s young and talented (which I agree), but there’s a gap between his postseason overall stats which shine bright (18pts on 48% FG including 42% 3pt and 5rbds in 32min) and his game by game stats.
The most disturbing aspect of his game is his inconsistency. Put aside the game where he got injured, Brown has played 14 games. Over these games, he had 7 games under 45% (including 4 with 40% or less), 5 of these games ended up as losses for the Cs while in 6 of them, he had 14pts or less.
The other aspect of his games which worries me is that he’s mostly a tunnel vision player with only 1.5as in 32min, a very low number for a swingman.
If I were the Cs, as Tatum is showing a little bit more consistency and passing ability (and if Hayward comes back healthy), I would trade Brown for the best package possible including a top 3/4 pick.

StephGoneStephParticipantWe’re talking about a player in his second year in the league starting in the conference finals. Some inconsistency should be expected. The fact that he had some bad shooting nights just means that he must have had some really good shooting nights to reach those averages.
Tatum in the 2018 playoffs has had 8 games shooting under 45% (including 3 under 40%) so it’s not clear from this statistic that Tatum is more consistent. Furthermore, Tatum also averaged 1.6 assists this season, exactly the same as Brown.
I guess it is a valid concern as to how the three players will coexist once Hayward comes back, but I don’t think you present a compelling argument for getting rid of Brown here.

weballin.netParticipantover his last 14 games, Tatum had only 2 games under 16pts. He’s also averaging 3+as over the stretch, twice more than Brown.
Brown is a pure small forward, not a guard. He’s nowhere near Sprewell in term of versatility as Spree averaged 3.8as his rookie year (4as per game over his career) and was a far better ball handler than Brown.

zcnumerounoParticipantI definitely wouldn’t trade him. He was fantastic, for the most part, in the Bucks/Celtics series, and at times looked like the best player on the court and took over portions of the game.
If I’m the Celtics, I don’t think about trading him (unless it’s for AD or KAT, maybe). He’s shown a lot of promise, is still very young, and I wouldn’t dare touch the chemsitry that the young Cs have shown during the playoffs.
Besides, a top 3/4 pick is no sure thing, while Brown already shows signs of stardom.

OhCanada-ParticipantI think Danny Ainge would trade him for top 4 pick in this years draft. If he could land Ayton, Bagley, Bamba or Jackson Jr. it would make sense as it spreads the teams depth to a positional need (PF/C), provides rim protection and rebounding and also pushes back the extension date of the asset by 2 years. Eventually all of these guys are gonna have to be resigned but if he keeps flipping them for other players on rookie scale contracts it buys them time.
Although Im a huge fan of brown and have always believed he has Allstar type upside I would never personally do that Im just saying this seems to be how Danny Ainge does things. No remorse straight buisness do whats best for the team.

weballin.netParticipantit’s about making the team better, and with the crop of big men in this year’s draft, it’s too good of an occasion not to go get one of these jewels.

Miko4rm206ParticipantHe is still Young like you said. He has improved drastically from his rookie season. It was considered a stretch for the Celtics to take him at 3 by many. But he is still improving, in his 2nd Straight eastern conference title going up against the greatest player of this era. It’s still a learning curb but he still has a good 5-6 years before he hits his prime.
As for his passing the offense is run through Kyrie/rozier/smart and then Horford. It’s not necessarily his job to make plays for others. His passing is fine for his role on the team

weballin.netParticipanthis value is so high I would take profit of the situation to get one of the bigs (JJJ, Bamba?) and another pick or versatile player

negguaryParticipantnot a bad idea considering they have three guys that they will have to create playing time for in addition to having to eventually deciding to not pay one of them. Why not get an area of need which is maybe there only small weakness which is another dynamic big man especially considering hordord isn’t a young man. And I’m a sixers fan that would hate for that to happen but I’ll say that this move is not such a bad idea that your negative pints suggest.

HitsterParticipantI’d no way trade him, if they moved any top player I’d honestly say it might be Hayward when he is fit. This would be hard on Gordon as he had an unfortunate injury but ifr they did want to make a move he might be the guy.
I don’t think they’ll make a major move this summer as a team minus Kyrie and Hayward is still in the mix. But last year they reached the Conference Finals too and I think only 4 or 5 of those guys are still on the roster so Ainge isn’t afraid to make big moves.
But personally I think it is hold fire and have a look at the players in their draft range, decide what to do with Smart being renewed and go again next season with a fit Hayward and Kyrie to boost the ranks. They could make a minor move to possibly move up the draft but I don’t see the likely Sac-Town pick coming into play for example.
