Who are some guys who had breakout performances late in the season this year. In the past we saw guys like Hassan Whiteside and Will Barton come out out of nowhere to prove the potential that teams once believed they possessed had been realized outside of the NBA’s guidance.

My guy this year would be Will Barton. Hes not gonna win MIP award because he only played 7 games but in those games he averaged 20 ppg, 3 rpg, 3.5 apg and 1.6 spg while shooting 2.7 3ptm, 50% FG, 59% 3pt and 87% ft in just 27 mpg. At 29 years of age it seems hes figured it out or maybe the newer way the game is being officiated and played just benefits his style of play.

To longtime forum users this as no surprise as he had a ROY type rookie season and was once compared to as a poor mans Kobe and had alot of supporters on this site. He has a tight handle, a deadly shot and amazing footwork he uses for a variety of eurosteps with great touch finishing with floaters. His playmaking is also great and while he maybe ball dominate its nice to have a guy you can give the ball to and you know youll get some offense out of it. He reminds me of two players Will Barton and Lou Williams. He would be a perfect 6th man for a team that lacks scoring depth.

Yes, he was on one of the worst teams of the year. Yes, their top scorer missed time during this stretch. Don’t care.

I saw some flashes of brilliance on both sides of the ball the final 20+ contests. If he keeps working on his shot he’ll be an all star

OhCanada who is your guy? Think you put Will Barton on accident

Josh Jackson was one of the first guys that came to mind, but another guy is Malik Monk. He was stuck behind Michael Carter-Williams basically all season until mid March, and came in and started pouring in points, while still not playing as many minutes as a lot of other rookies. You wonder what he would’ve been able to do if he had been getting minutes all year

This is to a much lesser extent than a guy like Whiteside, but Trey Burke came in out of nowhere and gave the Knicks some good minutes. I think he can find a backup spot somewhere

Tyler Dorsey & Dillon Brooks put up some good and pretty consistent scoring performances down the stretch of the season. Granted, both were on tanking teams but they still showed something that they can build on in the summer and going into next year.
