Lotto StudParticipantJust a thought. If Simmons wasn’t in control of the ball during all times of the game, how good would he really be in the NBA playing his “natural” wing position?

BallerScriptParticipantIf he wasn’t the main ball handler he wouldn’t be a wing
He’d be playing that PF position more likely
Simmons is a strong finisher around the rim and would likely be a putback/post up option0- Posted on: Sun, 04/08/2018 - 11:44pm #1114903
Lotto StudParticipantI said wing position because I still see Simmons being stubborn like Kevin Garnett by not wanting to be labeled a power forward because of his height, if he wasn’t able to be a point guard.

The GoatParticipantThat’s a ridiculous question Lotto Stud. Ill try answer it though.
His strength is handling the ball and he has only ever played PG in the nba so its like asking how good would Rondo be if he couldn’t handle it and had to play the 2.. or how good would Shaq be if he was forced to face up and shoot jumpers..
Still, I think the answer is he’d be above average. If he solely played as a back to the basket big, he’d have better scoring and passing than most bugs, and on D he’d be able to switch out easily. So he’d be an above average player. Being a 6’10” point guard makes him very good. If he develops a 3 ball (or even a good mid range jumper), he’ll be top 5.

Lotto StudParticipantThat’s basically an identical scouting report to Lamar Odom, but he was never the primary ball-handler or point guard on any team he’s played for, only in certain situations as a point forward.

holefillers1ParticipantLotto Stud. What if my aunt had balls?

holefillers1ParticipantCorrectamundo. Be she don’t, so she ain’t.
Don Meridith used to say, If ifs and buts were candies and nuts we’d all have a merry Christmas…the point is this exercise is pointless…its like saying what if Donovan Mitchell was drafted by a playoff team that DID have competent scorers. Would he be viewed as the same player if he was averaging 12ppg

OdieParticipantThere is actually a chance he would be even better. He would require a pure 3 point/long distance shooting point guard similar to John Paxon. Then…
His rebounding and shot blocking would improve as he would play more in the paint.
He would get even more steals anticipating passes from the 3 or 4 spot.
His assists would be the same as the offence would still run through him.
His scoring may improve as he would now be cutting more.
This is all theoretical as I can’t see him giving up the point now.

RicoParticipantI imagine he would be a poor man’s Greek Freak.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantNot going to attempt to answer your question because it doesn’t really make sense. However, I am interested to see how Simmons does in the playoffs this year and how teams defend him. In a seven game series when teams will have time to prepare and make adjustments, will we see Simmons weaknesses exploited more, particularly if embiid isn’t healthy and he has to be the primary offensive option for a series or two? The sixers generally do an excellent job of putting him in situations where the floor is spaced and his lack of shooting isn’t a huge issue to overcome. However, it could be more challenging in the playoffs, against better defensive teams with shorter rotations and more time to gameplan.

Mr. 19134ParticipantIf he played PF instead of PG i imagine he’d project to be a more efficient Blake Griffin type who also plays lockdown defense.
But I disagree with the post being his natural position he’s amazing on the perimter especially on defense.

SlickBouncePassParticipantThe man has been asked to be called the Fresh Prince.
He’s got the Will Smith light skin and good looks and hair.
He plays in Philly.
Lebron is the King, he’s with Klutch Sports and is the heir apparent, Lebron has embraced him as his heir.
So why, oh why, is the nickname the Fresh Prince not catching on.
I wish’d he’d be called Ben Pinball Simmons, give him an oldschool nickname to honor his old school game and passing, he’s a throwback baller, a power speed passer, not a 3-pt bomber. Pinball is homage to teh way he moves teh ball.
But yeah, the Fresh Prince makes a lot of sense. National media needs to catch on.
He’s asked for it himself. You got Roco, The Homie, The Fresh Prince, and The Process, and next year maybe the King (who i’ve never liked but i’d be an idiot not to take a top 5 player all time on my team). Get used to it, basketball world.

OhCanada-ParticipantBecause theres only one Fresh Prince in Philly!

HitsterParticipantBen playing off ball would be an interesting thought. If he was paired with a top level creative PG then he’d be okay and would work on his shooting maybe a bit more. But he wouldn’t be the sort of player who would play totally off ball, at worse the team would have great passing movement as the PG and Ben would interchange with Embeast drawing double teams etc. They would use pick and rolls to set Ben up to drive to the basket.
His assist numbers would be down but his scoring would be up a fair bit IMO.

Memphis MadnessParticipantIf they get LeBron they will get a 4peat.
Simmons is the real deal. I think he gets a jumper at some point or a post game but he will be on the short list of MVP candidates.

Mr. 19134ParticipantWe got a chance to see Ben play off ball at LSU and the entire game we would think why does Simmons not have the ball in his hands.
Why would you play your best ball handler, passer and deciscion maker off ball?

BeastMode716ParticipantI’ve heard them all from my fellow Lakers fans who just Refuses to accept that we missed out on a Generational talent by ONE F’ing pick!
And I Like Brandon Ingram – I think he’s growing into a Really good ball player but I been watching Simmons on Scouting tapes on YouTube for Years before he was even at LSU & the kid reminded me SO much of Magic Johnson & people scoffed b/c they just do NOT want to Deal w/ it
Magic made ZERO 3pt shots his Rookie year. Magic shot something 18% from 3pt range his fiirst 8 years in the NBA – a guy w/ That Size & That court Vision & I do NOT care if he Never takes a Jump shot from Anywhere
Do people realize that just like the Lakers when Magic arrived the WHOLE teams started Sharing the ball. Phila has 30+ assist in 13 of the 15 games winning streak & the two they missed they got 28 & 29 assists! — That has NEVER gappened before in NBA History
And Simmons is a Bigger, WAY more athletic version of Magic – he is a Point Guard. Simmons has played the Point Guard ALL year – Simmons has Guarded the Perimeter & been On Ball against BOTH opposing guards & he’s 1st or 2nd team ALL NBA Defense!
Simmons is doing things we have Never seen before at BOTH ends….. Point Guard is the Hardest position in the NBA to Learn & he is Dominating! He Should have made the All Star team but we got told "Rookies do Not make the All Star team" but now when he’s the Obvious choice for ROY the fans are told "Simmons is NOT a Rookie"
Does that sound familiar b/c the SAME Lazy National Media said the Exact same thing about Embiid just one season ago
Or how about this One in the Pre-Season: What is the National Media prediction on the Sixers 2017/18′ record?
"The Sixers are gonna STINK! Phila has a Rookie Point Guard – Rookie Point Guards get Crushed in the NBA – it will take Simmons YEARS to learn the position & it’s going to be a Long time before the Process pays off in Phila"
But now the Same Media members who just do Not want to admit they were wrong – Now want to claim Simmons had a red shirt year, he’s not really playing point guard or how about this Hot Take from Jaylen Rose "I see Simmons as a Poor Man’s Lamar Odom or Rajon Rondo LOLZZZZZZZ
The HATE the National Media has for the Sixers is Hysterical. I said this 2+ years ago the Very night Phila won the #1 pick in the 2016 NBA Lottery BEFORE Joel Embiid played his 1st NBA game & obviously before phila drafted Ben Simmons: Embiid & Simmons are Magic & Kareem 2.0 but instead of 12 years Difference in age these young guys are only 2 years apart. And they are BOTH unselfish playing in Brett Brown’s Spurs East system so get ready to see Max Free Agents Begging to play w/ these kids in Phila & thx to Sam Hinkie that 76ers organization has a TON of Cap Space – this is only the beginning so all you Haters better save up your Best material ROFLMAOOOOO
