Ed Davis is a guy that is undeserving of the hype he is receiving right now, in my opinion. I mean what has he really proven to be considered a possible top 5 pick? What standout skill does he bring on the floor, that makes you go “we expect Ed Davis to do this or that when he’s out there?” Some users on this site think he is the best returning player in the ACC, and Im just interested to know what it is that is so great about him as a prospect.

I think hes overrated, but he averaged 2 blocks, and 6 rebounds in 19 minutes..guess that stands for something, right?

this kid has good potential. but unc already had scorers in ellington, lawson, and hansborough with them logging minutes.but this season he can put up a good amount of points

I am a big fan of Ed Davis. The first time I saw him play I thought he was an NBA player. I think this year he will be a force down low for UNC but I have never though of Davis as a top 5 pick. I thought 10-14 would be great for him, just late lottery.

Solomon Alabi put up those same stats, do you think he’s deserving of a top 5 pick as well?

Stats aren’t what many people go on, just the fact that alot of their key components are gone means someone will have to step up and many think Ed Davis is ready to take that leap to College Stud. Who knows though…he could be a complete fail. It’s just based on the whole team left, I don’t remember seeing any eye popping recruits from the Tar Heels either.

    if you noticed,
teams dont go after jus talent anymore.
its alll about POTENTIAL/NEEDS for almost all teams.
    if it was jus talent,
the grizzles would have selecteed Harden/Evans.
    but they NEED Thabeet.

the 76ers would have drafted a more nba ready rookie point guard.
    but Jrue Holiday has POTENTIAL
    and alot of it.

Sometimes people give you negative point cause you like Holiday. I personally like him, but not Davis.

No, people give you negative if you DONT like Holiday. I got -13 yesterday when I said Holdiay was the most overrated player in the NBA

You’ve got to understand that typically, entering a season, a young and athletic big man will always get a ton of hype. Generally, I’m not sold on those guys. With Davis, I am.

He’s got a ridiculous – I’m talking 7-foot-3 – wingspan and the athleticism to jump through the roof. OK, I realize so do a lot of centers who amount to nothing. But what makes him special is he’s already shown an aptitude for the game.

Davis understood how to run a pick-and-roll and how to defend the paint and how to position himself for rebounds as a true freshman. Those are things that most "projects" – Alabi, for instance – take years to develop if they ever can.

Admittedly, a lot of times, you can’t believe the hype when it comes to athletic bigmen. But that doesn’t mean you should always just look past them.

I believe Davis has some Amare Stoudemire in him offensively, and I definitely think he warrents serious consideration as a top-5 pick.
