Something is going on in San Antonio and it feels like Kawahi is angering for a trade. Danny ainge has been known to go after players in their prime throwing everything to get them. The celtics can offer Tatum, Brown and Morris and the salaries match. The Spurs get their 2 young players with star potential and ship Leonard out the west. The celtics would be able to team up a Kyrie in his prime, with Leonard and Heyward. They can  max Leonard as long as al declines and restructures which I think he will do to win a championship. The following year he has a player option and they could still offer him 15 mil a year for 3 years..

As a Raptors fan the mere thought of this trade makes me immediatly neg you. Irving, Hayward, Leonard and Horford moving forward is a scary thought. -1. With that being said all the pieces fit and its an excellent return for the Spurs. The trade is out of conference the prospects are top of the line pieces that compliment the rest of the Spurs roster coming from a winning organization. It’s hard to believe another team can offer that much talent while still keeping the Spurs competitive. Still gotta neg you…

I’m wondering whether they’d do it for Phillys expiring deals (whatever works with Booker, Redick, Amir) and the picks (Lakers deal + Philly’s own). That’s enough cap space for the Spurs to land a max guy, maybe even two considering Parker’s 15 mil comes off.. surely they could tempt stars (even Lebron) to play with Aldridge and 2 first rd picks under Pop. For Philly, a potential lineup of Simmons, Kawhi, Covington, Saric, Embiid is enormous, Fultz leading the bench.
Your trade is a very good return for San Antonio also. They would have no shortage of suitors if Kawhi is on his way out.

Really it all depends on Kawhi’s injury situation. Knowing what I know now, I don’t think I’d trade Tatum and Brown for Leonard.

It’s just such a strange injury. It’s unusual for basketball players in the first place, and I can’t think of another situation where doctors said for months that a player was not responding to treatment as expected, then cleared him to play anyway, but the player said he was in too much pain to go. That’s just weird.

It’s weird that Tony Parker, 10 years older than Kawhi, had a more severe quad injury than Kawhi’s but came back in less time.

Nothing about Kawhi suggests he’s the kind of guy who would sit out games to force a trade or make a point. He wants to win, he wants to be great, and with him the Spurs were the team with the best chance of dethroning the Warriors this year (remember game 1).

It’s all just very weird, and it has me wondering, sadly, if Kawhi will ever be the same again.

In the early 90’s Olajuwon had an injury (shoulder I think, but don’t quote me on it) that was almost the exact same situation. He was claiming he was injured, but team doctor’s were clearing him to play and management thought he was sandbagging. The whole ordeal almost led to Olajuwon being traded to LA. Was pretty wild.

Leonard seems like a good dude, was personally groomed to be the heir apparent and is treated like royalty in S.A. Can’t imagine him faking an injury for any reason.

I think Philly could offer Saric, Roco and Fultz with their 1st rd pick this year. Spurs are 3rd in the West w/out Kawhi. Saric is better than Anderson, Roco is better than Green and Fultz would play next to Murray.

Its going to take a haul to acquire Kawhi Leonard. This would create a big three in Philly to be reckoned with for years to come.

     pg. Irving

    sg. Hayward

    sf. Leonard

    pf ??

    C. horford

That team would be considered the favorite in the east imo

I like leonard ALOT. but i wouldn’t want to give tatum, brown and morris for him. tatum and brown are almost lock allstars in very near future. leonard and hayward are both coming off injuries too, so its hard to gamble that much even at their level.

yeah even though I love kawhi, I have a feeling that Tatum and brown are going to develop a lot faster than people think.  There younger and cheaper than Leonard.  and I actually think both of them can develop on the same level as Leonard .

I don’t know, man. If you have the chance to get a 100% healthy Leonard, you do it. You really think Brown and Tatum are both going to develop into 25ppg scorers on a title contending team while also being maybe the best perimeter defender in the league? That’s a pretty bold prediction.

If Kawhi has these underlying injury issues, his draft value won’t be as high as it is when he is sound and was talked about as the 3rd best player in the NBA behind LBJ and KD in some circles. Wherever we rate Kawhi when he is fit he is a top 10 talent at least and Poppovich and Burford aren’t going to give him up on the cheap.

Teams will know the Spurs will want a good return and it could even be that if they did a deal they would only do it if any possible high lottery picks they got meant they could have a shot at specific players.
