BasketballGuru24ParticipantIf Barnes Comes Better……..If Not Worse

llperezAndersen and Barnes will prove to be terriffic pick ups. Jameer will return to full health. Dwight should only get better. Bass gives them a stronger 4 man who can still play d on the perimeter. And Vince is an upgreade over Hedo in my book.

HaleParticipantWay way better, although it might be hard to get all their forwards PT now because of the depth. Lewis, Anderson, Barnes, Bass, Pietrus*, Carter*. Pietrus and Carter will probably play sg but still PT issues.

thetruthParticipanti think we are better. adding vc who will be that go to guy that needed last season will help.
also adding barnes , bass are two players who are tough and can play d.
ryan anderson aka rashard lewis replacement is gonna suprise alot of people.0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 7:24pm #185817
dlisgodParticipanthe is exactly what they needed… anderson and barnes are pretty good… but VC can finish at the rim against good centers something turkoglu lacks and that makes dwight even better

kong47272ParticipantI think Barnes and Bass were the additions that will really pay off in the long run, defensively the Magic got a lot better.

ballaj334Participanti would say it all matters on vc… if vc comes out taking bad shots and trying to be the man of the team the magic are worse. If he realizes the magic should run inside/out and if he allows to get his shots created off of howard the magic will be tough. Imagine vc driving to the hole… do u step over and leave howard or do you allow him to do his thing? i believe all depends on the mindset of vc if he comes in ready to in a sense be a major role player then the magic are tough if he comes in trying to be a superstar i expect alot of howard van gundy conversations aha.

FutureoftheGameDont the Magic still need a back up point guard? Or will Johnson be the back up? Anyway, they definatly got better. I didnt know about Barnes. Someone already said it, but what about PT for all these guys??
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 7:48pm #185830

thetruthParticipantwe are about to sign cj watson to an offer sheet. and he will be our backup with no neck taking a seat back.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 7:55pm #185834
FutureoftheGameDang. He will be great as a back up for the Magic. Isnt he a type of player that is alot like Nelson?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 7:57pm #185835

thetruthParticipantbut hey i dont care. with us adding barnes and watson we will be very good. i cant wait to do my season predicts and playoffs after all the big moves are done.

FutureoftheGameThe Magic my be a little better than the Cavs as of now. But with Lebron, its hard to beat them.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 8:08pm #185841

romeeezybabyParticipantHe’s another one of those forwards who can extend the offense with his perimeter shooting. He won’t be as ball dominant as Turk was, but he could end up being more efficient in the long run.

NYK2010ParticipantCarter is an upgrade and they have a much better PF, bench now.
Magic & Celtics in the ECF, Cavs not as good at the PG, SG, PF spots.

da gurunot better alston was the key

wuteverParticipantMagic def got better. V.Carter is a huge upgrade from C.Lee, only that he doesnt play defense like C.Lee, but offensively Carter can create on his own and can carry part of the load. Kind of worried about the depth behind Nelson if he gets hurt, all they have is like A.Johnson or Lue….which is ew. Rashard Lewis can move back to his natural position at the SF, with the arrival of Bass and Anderson. My only thing is they only have a small window of time to win. Carter is getting old and his production level can’t stay this high for much longer, they basically traded away part of their future in C.Lee who may never be an all-star like Carter but would probably of been a very solid player. Also what do you guys think about their style of play you think its gonna change with the departure of Turkoglu and arrival of Bass and Anderson. The starting rotation probably is gonna be Nelson, Carter, Lewis, Bass and Howard. They become stronger and bigger in the post but may lose some of that outside shooting and up and down playing that they had before. I think the one change of having Bass at the 4 and Lewis at the 3 considerably changes the style of this team. Of course they do still have shooters like Peitrus and now Anderson who is a big that can shoot. Also Carter is a solid shooter as well. Whats your guys thoughts?

deezhood87Participantbetter…barely…but better…hedo turkglu had 3 go…still dont see them winnin a ship wit lewis at tha 4….

doubledribblerParticipantI think the Magic have gotten better, but only slightly. I agree with whoever said that there may be some playing time issues, but overall I believe they have some guys that are pretty unselfish and that are team first guys. Losing Alston isn’t that big of a deal as long as Jameer stays healthy. Johnson was solid all year. Nothing spectacular, but he gets the job done. I think this move will allow them to match up pretty well with most teams. I think other than their core group of Nelson, Carter, Lewis and Howard, that there will be times when some guys don’t play at all. They should have a nice team no matter if they go big or small and they have gotten more athletic. I think this move puts them way ahead of the Cavs. If the teams are injury free it will be Boston and Orlando in the East Finals.

JNixonParticipantThey definitely got better. They upgraded depth at some positions and filled their weaknesses at other spots. They are alot tougher defensively now, and the frontcourt has good versatility.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 07/21/2009 - 4:17am #185926

sheltwon3ParticipantThey are deeper and have added more overall talent to a solid core. It will take time to get the chemistry on point but I think they will be better. The question should be is that enough with the way Cleveland and Boston have improved. Don’t overlook that Cleveland has add some solid and reliable role players that can also defend. They are lacking someone to guard versatile 4’s though but Jawad Willaims could maybe step up and do that.

crazyknicksfanParticipanti think they got better
0 - Posted on: Tue, 07/21/2009 - 4:18am #185929

sheltwon3ParticipantDon’t forget CJ Watson. Dude is quality and helps out their depth a lot as AJ ages.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 07/21/2009 - 4:20am #185931

Biased2ShortGuardsParticipantThey got worse… slightly… They will still be 3rd in the East behind Boston and Cleveland… but I dont think the Magic realized how important “The Turkish Michael Jordan” was to them in that offense… He basically ran the offense and was the closer down the stretch who hit many clutch shots for them… Also, “Skip-to-my-lou”, in my opinion, ran the point in that system better than Jameer Nelson, even though Nelson was an all-star… The Magic have upgraded in a few positions, but the new personel makes them a different type of team than the one that beat the Cavs in the Eastern Conference Finals last year… If the Cavs get #1 seed then the Magic lose to Boston in second round… If the Celtics get #1 seed then the Magic could possibly upset the Cavs in second round but wont beat the C’s… either way… anything less than Eastern Conference Champs is worse
0 - Posted on: Tue, 07/21/2009 - 4:43am #185941

D_LegendParticipantI think they got better overall, and now they are capable of playing a different style of ball other then “lets shoot a hell of alot of 3’s” Only thing I dont like is the lost of Courtney Lee, but him and Devin Harris should be something to watch.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 07/21/2009 - 8:43am #186101

MkadozaParticipantVince Carter is still one of the premiere SG in the league and his offensive versatility coupled with his passing ability makes him a perfect replacement for Hedo. Carter is still very athletic and has an assortment of moves that he can use with Nelson, Lewis and Howard. Anderson provides what Garrity used to, a big man who can run the floor, make shots and stretch the defense, though Anderson has the potential to be more versatile in this regard. Combined with Gortat and Bass and you have a very versatile frontcourt. Barnes, Pietrus, Reddick, and Johnson gives them good backups and perimeter defenders so the Magic have a good team, better than last years.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 07/21/2009 - 2:44pm #186878
aarondsonixfanParticipantThey definately got better. They have 4 all stars on their team, and have a SOLID bench. I mean yeah the Celtics have 4 all stars on their team as well, but I really don’t think that they can match up with the Magic’s bench. They definately will beat Cleveland, and I also see them beating the Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals. They will be in the finals again, and if the Lakers resign Odom, then they will lose in the finals again, but if the lakers don’t… I see it being a REALLY good series
