Heard rumours about it an hour ago and now it looks like it’s done. Quick move. If Blake stays healthy, I think Detroit wins this trade.

Griffin is owed $30+ mill to 21/22 season. He has been injured a bit last couple of years.

Clippers will prob look to move on from DE Jordan now. If Boban can be a semi decent starter, Clippers have got 3 starters from this, plus a first round and second round pick. I think clippers may have just won this trade, especially I cannot see Griffin staying healthy and playing 75+ games next 5 seasons. He will be 29 in a couple of months

Did Detroit just become the Pelicans of the east? Relying on 2 star big men and an above average point guard when healthy while having nobody on the wing. Who’s gonna start on the wing? Galloway and Johnson?

Reggie Bullock has proven to be an NBA starting caliber player to me, but you are right they are so weak on the wings.

I really thought Pistons would be keeping Harris, not giving him up as well.

That’s what I was thinking who will be there starters ? Ish Smith, Griffin, Drummond and maybe Bullock and Stanley Johnson. Galloway and Kennard prob best to come off the bench. Not much depth

They are trying Galloway at point to keep Ish coming off the bench. Probably will stay that way with Griffins playmaking coming into play now.

They didn’t have a choice, not a city where star players are going to come during FA, they have to trade for them and pay them a shh ton of money.

    Protections on Detroit’s 2018 first-round pick include 1-4 in 2018, 2019 and 2020, and unprotected in 2021, per sources.

The Pistons are not even guaranteed to make the playoffs this year – I think Clips won this one.

Once again Van gundy thinking of saving his own skin and not thinking about the future of the Pistons. Drummond, Jackson and Griffin all have big contracts. He doesn’t play youngster, Kennard and Ellenson. Now we have no draft pick which could of been a 8-14th pick…

With the pick protection, he’s really betting that this trade will vault them up the standings. If it doesn’t, this could end up as a pretty bad trade.

Reggie Jackson is injured. If Drummond or Griffin go down injured this will end in tears….

Don’t really like this trade for either team. I like Tobias Harris, but not nearly enough to have him be the best player offered in a trade for Griffin. Furthermore, Bradley is essentially a rental and likely wouldn’t resign with a team that’s going full rebuild. Not really sure what direction this team is going in terms of identity.

For Detroit, you lose a lot of pieces and two draft picks for a guy who will put up nice stats, but won’t get you far in the playoffs. They essentially have no starting caliber wings at this point. Kennard will really have to step up.

Bradley and Harris are alot to give up for a risky Blake Griffin especially with the picks but roster wise Detroit has the depth to cover them in theory. Ish Smith runs the offense best and now Jackson can play some SG. Buycks and Galloway have also played well. Kennard has needed minutes all year and shown he can play at this level. Van Gundy will likely throw 30 plus SF minutes at Bullock I think hes a great glue guy that makes alot of no stat plays. They still have Stanley Johnson for what its worth. Griffin plays PF and Drummond at C.

What they had going was not working and with those guys they seemed destined for a 7th to 12th place finish in the East for years to come. If Griffin stays healthy hyou would have to think they can do better. If he gets hurt they will do worse and the pick they traded is lottery protected for 2019 and 2020 from what I read.

I don’t think Detroit is done dealing. They can’t be. At PF, they have Griffin, Tolliver, Leuer, Ellenson, Brice Johnson. I want to see Ellenson get more run backing up Griffin. Leuer and Brice Johnson can go. Won’t get much for either though. Could package with Stanley but again, won’t get much.

Blake Griffin was once probably the best PF in the league, but this is probably going to be the 4th straight season in which he plays 61 games or fewer. He’ll be 29 in a couple months.

Tobias Harris is 25 and healthy. He’s ranked 33rd in the NBA in ESPN’s win shares and 39th in basketball-reference.com’s win shares.

These things are a strong argument for trading Griffin for Harris straight up, if you had the opportunity. I probably wouldn’t do that, because a healthy Griffin can still dominate an NBA game, even against great teams.

But if you throw in the lottery pick it becomes a pretty nice haul for Griffin. Especially if you don’t see a quick path back into title contention either way. Also, you can never go wrong with Boban, king of the standing dunk.

Considering that the Clippers could have lost both Blake Griffin and Chris Paul to free agency with nothing in return this summer they have done pretty well for themselves. They’ve turned what could have been just two empty spots into a good haul of solid players and picks.

Not that any of these players will take them to the next level, but if they’re looking to rebuild they’ve set themselves up with alright tools.

Blockbuster deal – Griffin is owed a lot of money until 2021/22 when he will be 32/33, so Detroit have certainly gone all in on this deal. The posirive could be they have him long term so have to put exactly the right players around him. The last year is player option but I don’t see him turning that down.

Clippers have moved a huge contract but lost their best player. They get Detroit’s two top scorers this year in Harris and Bradley. The later is a FA this summer so will certainly be playing for a new deal. They will have several first rounders to use so could extract something from the draft.

Clips are moving Lou Williams and DeAndre for sure now. Doubtful as to whether they re-sign Avery Bradley going forward because both he and Pat Beverley virtually do the same job. You would have to think Bradley therefore looks elsewhere.

Maybe they flip Bradley to a contender right now too…? Cleveland?

If the Clips want to still compete, they are only a good starting PG away – could they somehow get Kemba Walker ? They have two first round picks.

Kemba Walker, Milos Teodosic, Bradley, Lou Williams, Harris, Boban and Jordan – there is a bit of talent there, even better if $20+mill Gallo actually can stay healthy….

Told ya they can still compete, i didn’t say CONTEND.  The Clippers are 9-3 since the trade, as i said before if they could land a good PG like Kemba Walker they can still compete in the west….

Clippers made the move to clear cap space to make a run at Lebron who they think they have a great chance of landing.  They still want to compete and create their new core at same time.

LeBron James has strategically stayed out of the Western conference his entire career. He’s entire career has been calculated efforts to pad his legacy. There’s a zero percent chance that he goes West to a rebuilding team in the twilight of his career.

IF LBJ had gone West, he would have done so by now. I don’t think he wants to be up against GSW outside of the Finals at this stage of his career.

Detroit very clearly wins this deal. I’m shocked everyone thinks otherwise. Between losing Avery Bradley (expiring contract), Tobias (expires next year), Boban (haven’t seen him do too much), giving up a first this year and a second next year for an Blake Griffin (who rebounds well for a team in desperate need of it), Brice, and Willie Reed, I think Detroit actually did really well for themselves despite the obvious contingencies (health concerns, salary, etc).

Detroit still needs a Point Guard but I think things could be far worse. Wing depth is a slight concern but I’m totally here to see Stanley and Luke develop and see how far they take things. With a legitimate PG in fold and some more depth I think Detroit is a playoff team next year for sure.

Remember when Van Gundy wanted to trade a first round pick for Donatas Motiejunas ?

How good is Donatas Motiejunas ? Well he is in China now

Gery Woelfel: I did a quick survey of six Bucks and 76ers players before the game on major Pistons-Clippers trade. All six felt the Clippers got the better of the deal. I think it’s a great trade for both teams.

Before this deal went through, the Clippers actually tried to trade him for Paul George and Towns, but were turned down..

If George leaves this summer, this could prove costly for the Thunder.

The thunder are after Avery Bradely, which makes a lot sense…
