BasketballGuru24ParticipantWhich Player Do you think is overrated? That gets more recognition then they deserve , and slumps and people just say he will Produce Soon …NO ROOKIES!!! they haven’t played a real nba game yet

JNixonParticipantJRUE HOLIDAY!

GoodbyeChandlerParticipantits dwight howard. well not in all. its his offense. people say he is a power down low and he needs to be doubled, but like most post up centers today, he throws up crap. his hook shot is so ugly. but when it comes to defense and rebounding hes a star.

BasketballGuru24ParticipantMy Bad…..but not rookies since we haven’t seen them play but nba players

Michael.S.ParticipantAndre Igoudala EASILY
HAHA J.K just wanter to see what ^^^ said
im going to go with CB4

Bison 49ParticipantNot to be rude, but that is ridiculus!!! He puts up 22ppg, 10reb/g, plays solid D shoots a good percentage … is consistent, plays hurt (because his team needs him), get other teams bigs in foul trouble, because they cannot keep up with his speed. Sure he is not putting up Lebron, Wade numbers, but does that make him overrated? No being a Raptors fan aside, there is no way he is overrated. You make a joke about Igoudala, take it back, and then in all seriousness suggest Bosh … No.
Overrated would be like Andrew Bogut, Maybe Vince Carter (at this point in his career), Tabasco sauce. Not Bosh.

knicksfreakParticipantGreg Oden. I think Tyrus Thomas can be put in that category too.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 4:56pm #185652

llperezI was saying Bosh was overrated on another thread. I just think his stats are more impressive then his overall impact on the game. I think Rondo is overrated. Teams play off him because he can’t shoot and he plays with hall of famers who take a lot of pressure off him. And I love Durant, but after reading people say he is gonna win mvp’s and is one of the 5 best players today, I think people are going over board with him. Let him make the playoffs, work on his ball handling, become an above average rebounder and defender before we crown him as great.

BasketballGuru24ParticipantI Would Say Shane Battier…….
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 4:59pm #185656

dwat4444Participantrondo and rasheed wallace(now) because he’s really slowing down at a dramatic pace yet teams were still going after him hard.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 4:59pm #185657

llperezIf anything he is underrated. He does everything you want from him except create offense off the dribble. Any team would be lucky to have Shane.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:03pm #185662

Knicksboy34ParticipantHedo Turkoglu
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:03pm #185663

MagikKnickParticipantChris Bosh, i dont think you can be put in that “superstar” category unless you lead your team to the playoffs, like Wade, James, CP3, others..
Some say hes in the top 5 PFs, I dont even think hes top 10
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:07pm #185665
BasketballGuru24ParticipantShane Battier is overrated for his defense as well…..YES IM SAYING IT!!! he only plays good man to man defense, but can’t deny the ball from the player, can’y block can’t steal averaged 0.8 stls and 0.9 blks, If that gives you props to be on a all-defense team……then Roger mason jr should be on the all nba 2nd team for being a great shooter and clutch as well…..Don’t Forget Stats Are part of the game as well
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:07pm #185666

JNixonParticipantI guess its Turkoglu then if its not Jrue Holiday
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:10pm #185668
billykParticipantMo “front runner” Williams…..
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:11pm #185669

RickyRubio9ParticipantYeah because Shane goes on the floor and gets burned every night. Oh wait…he doesn’t.
I watch him every game. He shuts down the best player, if anything I think Ron is overrated on defense and Battier is completely underrated as a player. He is the only dude in the league who can shut down Kobe. Heck, he’s had games against him where he’s outscored him. He shut down LeBron too when they came to Houston. He is not overrated, if he were, every team wouldn’t contact Houston about him. Well, most teams.0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:14pm #185670

JNixonParticipantAndre Iguodala shuts down Kobe all the time. Shane Battier does his best to contain Kobe. I remember one time in the playoffs, Battier had his palm flat on Kobe’s face when he was contesting his jumper and Kobe still made it. Never would happen to my man Andre…
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:15pm #185671

llperezare some of the most overrated things out there. Guys like Iverson and Alvin Robertson were some of the best stealers in the game, but they were weak at defense. Shawn Bradley and Manute Bol were some of the best shot blockers in the game, but were weak on defense. Battier get’s the job done, and if your only argument is his stats don’t add up, then that is kinda weak.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:16pm #185672

RickyRubio9ParticipantAre you honestly saying this…That’s the best defense you can do against Kobe and the majority of the time it won’t go in, but he is Kobe. Well, if you say so though, I like Iggy as a player alot.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:17pm #185673

knicksfreakParticipantYES! haha. I forgot to mention him because… well…… I forgot about him. He is not a top PG. He did not deserve the all-star game. He is a whiner and a crier. Sad thing is that it looks like its rubbing off on Lebron.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:20pm #185674
NarcParticipantDwight Howard…doesn’t own a post move to save his life…if he isn’t dunking he not scoring.
Baron Davis is another guy, he shoots a horrible percentage and is an at best mediocre FT shooter.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:20pm #185675
BasketballGuru24ParticipantHe had no offensive game can’t create his own shot……And really for a defensive specialist are you suppose to have a better average of steals and blocks……and all those guys played pretty good defense…what am i talking about GREAT Defense …..Your Always Suppose to have something to back you up….and stats are it. Battier has none !
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:20pm #185676
Michael.S.Participantyes mo will overrated and d-west underrated
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:24pm #185680
NarcParticipantLet me add Bruce Bowen as well.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:24pm #185682

RickyRubio9ParticipantTop 5 in DPOY Multiple Times.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:28pm #185688

llperezSince you say Iguodala shuts down kobe all the time, I decided to look up their last 6 meetings. Kobe has averaged 24 pts on 49% shooting and has won 4 out of the 6. So you consider that shutting him down?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:32pm #185693
BasketballGuru24ParticipantWell my opinion is he is overrated because his stats don’t show, and when he plays kobe is when everyone only watches, he hasn’t proven to improve any part of his game, from averaging 14ppg his rookie year 2 going total downhill…..has no ball-handles, can’t create.. he good but not good as everyone gives him credit for
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:35pm #185694

JNixonParticipantYes considering how Kobe average about 5 or 6 more points than that per game every year. Maybe not shutting him down, but holding him to below average performances…
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:37pm #185697
Michael.S.Participantbut kobe’s fg pct isn’t that high over the course of the season
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:37pm #185698

marcusfizer21ParticipantCARMELO ANTHONY! – he’s a selfish and waaaayyyyy overrated player…
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:38pm #185699

knicksfreakParticipantMelo used to be overrated but his play last season kind of flew under the radar. He also developed defensive tenacity out of nowhere too.

spencerishawesomeI’m gonna throw a name out there some may or may not agree with… Kevin Garnett.
I’m not a big fan of his.. He’s a PF who thinks he is a SG, has trouble taking the ball strong to the hoop, and is sometimes turnover prone.
And yeah, he did win the championship, but with the talent on that team he shouldn’t have gotten all the credit he did for being the lord and savior of boston…
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:44pm #185707

0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:46pm #185708

R-Dot-13ParticipantDefinetly Chris Bosh
Cant get his team to the playoffs, and is not a franchise player.
He is good, but not a superstar.
He settles for his jumpshot over 50% of the time.
Im a raptors fan saying this.0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:47pm #185711

knicksfreakParticipantwhat have you been smoking spencer? Theres a reason the Celtics got knocked out by Orlando. And the reason is…..Garnett was injured. He is almost unguardable being so athletic and almost 7 feet tall. He is one of the top defenders in the league. He can guard all 5 positions. He is a hardnosed competitor.
Are you crazy?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:48pm #185713
NarcParticipantI would agree with KG getting more credit than he deserves. He didn’t single handedly save the Boston Celtics. One of the main reasons that the Celtics were bad before he got there was because Paul Pierce was injured, and had to sit out most of the season. KG is a great leader and motivator, but he doesn’t deserve as much credit as he gets for turning that franchise around. Paul Pierce and Ray Allen don’t get enough, especially Ray.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:50pm #185714
billykParticipantKG????? 20 ppg 11 rebs 4 asst 1 stl 2 blks for his career <<<< thats not overrated…… Throw in an MVP, ALL NBA Defense (DPOY in 07-08) and legendary intensity…. Dude carried Minny on his back for over a decade…. One of the greatest mid range shooting big men of all time….
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:50pm #185716

knicksfreakParticipantPierce wasnt injured for the 4 seasons they were really bad. They would have repeated if Garnett was healthy
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:52pm #185719
NarcParticipantI never said he was overrated…he will go down as one of the greatest that ever played, but he doesn’t deserve all the cred he gets for turning Boston around.
And I agree, he WAS Minnesota when he was a T-Wolves member, but as far as him being the savior that saved Boston, that’s for debate.
0- Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 6:49pm #185791
spencerishawesome“[KG] will go down as one of the greatest that ever played”
That line right there states how overrated he is. He is nowhere near one of the greatest to ever play.
One thing you look for in a big man is to take it to the rack and get the opposing teams big defenders into foul trouble, which makes them hesitant and vulnerable on defense. KG does not do that.
Also, one of the greatest ever should be more clutch and take over games more down the stretch… Peirce and Allen were the two who did that for the most part 2 years ago.. When the games were on the line the ball was hardly in KG’s hands.
KG is a great player, don’t get me wrong.. I love guys who hustle, give it their all, and care as much as he does–but sometimes i feel people give him too much credit because they like him because of those things. It’s just my opinion that he is overrated(maybe not the most overrated but he comes to mind first for me when i think overrated nba)

bluedevils12ParticipantDwight howard and josh smith.
Dwight howard: 4 sum of u who have read wat i think on d howard u already kno i dont like him. but jus becuase i dont like players doesnt mean i dont recognize game. and as far as dwight goes i feel he gets waaayyy 2 much credit for being better than he is. i feel its becuase dwight was an all star and becuz dwight was a dunk champion. but let me reason. 1st of all there arent 2 many good centers in the NBA anyway so him being an all star in the EAST is no real accomplishment. also he was the 1st center 2 ever win the dunk contest. whcih isnt a bad thing but thats doesnt mean u should be all NBA. now yes dwight rebounds good and plays good D but his offense is virtually non existent if he isnt dunking the ball. you would never throw the ball down 2 dwight in clutch moments of the game and expect him 2 get a basket. dwight has a ways 2 go until he is the guy that the NBA is hyping him up 2 be. I still believe Yao Ming is the best Center in basketball. Not jus becuase dwight said yao was his hardest competition but because yao does a lot of things well and everything a center is supposed 2 do.
Josh Smith: this has 2 be the most overrated player in the NBA in my opinion. I live in GA and have season tickets 2 the hawks games and there is not a player i have seen with more potential and skills but jus doesnt apply it than josh smith. Im not gonna list his attitude as a prblem cuz i could care less about players attitudes but i will list his iq as a problem. this kid jus doesnt kno basketball. i kno he ‘s still young but he should have understood wat his strenghts are by now. Josh smith doesnt bring it everynight. he often has lackluster performances unless he’s on a fast break for a dunk. he has no jump shot watsoever but still continues to shoot them as if he was bird or ray allen. Its obvious 2 even fans when u see him taking a jumper and the entire crowd is yellin nooo!! haha it sound bad but ask any hawks fan they know exactly wat im talking about. Smith should simply be better. he is obviously better when he’s attacking the rim but he doesnt seem 2 understand that and neither does that sorry excuse 4 a coach. OVERRATED!!
0- Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 6:01pm #185743

thetruthParticipanti see alot of yall saying d12 is overrated. thats cool with me. you can think what you wanna think. anyway the most overrated player in the league is rondo. ever since he won the title. people been saying hes a top pg in the league. how can you be a top 10 and you cant even shoot.
0- Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 11:34pm #185880
deezhood87Participantcuhz his defensive abilitys and passin abilitys more then make up 4 wat he lacks in shootin…..cant u name 10 hands down point gaurds that r better then him…no u cant even name 5 that will consistently get tha better of him night in and night out….

0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:58pm #185733

romeeezybabyParticipantI’m a huge fan of his game, and I think he is one of the smartest players in the game when it comes to utilizing your ability, but no way in hell should he have won back to back MVP’s. Kobe was clearly robbed in 2005!
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:59pm #185735
NarcParticipantWell lets analyze the teams that he had…they were full of rookies like Gerald Green, Al Jefferson, and a young Kendrick Perkins. They were heavily inexperienced and they were under new management and a new coach in Doc Rivers, there is an adjustment period to go through. They lost guys like Antoine Walker (the one in his prime, not the one writing bad checks in Vegas) and a young Joe Johnson. It also needs to be said that they won the Atlantic before they rebuilded.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 5:59pm #185737

knicksfreakParticipantYeah. He is the only one who can even compare to Lebron with size and athleticism but he falls in love with his jumper too often. If he penetrated more like Lebron he could be a surefire allstar.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 6:01pm #185740

llperezI’m glad I’m not a hawks fan because that guy would irritate the hell out of me. I saw so many plays against the cavs in the second round where he was just giving up dunks to Lebron instead rotating over to help. He has the tools to ba an all-star, but zero heart.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 6:02pm #185744

knicksfreakParticipantYes and they also won a championship with Rondo at PG and Davis and Powe getting quality minutes. They won with rookies because Garnett made the difference. You said “One of the main reasons that the Celtics were bad before he got there was because Paul Pierce was injured, and had to sit out most of the season.” Thats why I brought up all the other time Boston sucked while Pierce was healthy.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 6:08pm #185756

JNixonParticipantYea Josh Smith is overrated, I live in Atlanta as well and everyone thinks he is so good because he is a flashy dunker and good shotblocker. But he cant shoot, he dribbles like someone who just picked up a basketball for the 1st time in their life, and he is a bad defender on and off the ball when it comes to anything except blocks and the occasional steal. And on top of that, gets mad when Coach Woodson tells him to stop settling. Overrated
0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 6:09pm #185757
NarcParticipantAnd Pierce was the only veteran on the team with that kind of leadership ability when they were a struggling franchise. I’m pretty sure Garnett is not the only leader on the team. When they won the title, it was the big 3…not the Big Ticket, and only the Big Ticket. Ray Allen and Paul Pierce have been in the league long enough and have enjoyed enough individual success to be considered as serious leaders and driving forces to success as a whole.

0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/20/2009 - 6:28pm #185775

Da1potParticipantJameer Nelson is overrated. I’m not just saying that because of the playoffs( I know he was hurt) but he did not deserve the all star berth he got. He is a major defensive liability and is unathletic and not a true point guard, something you seriously need when your franshise player is a big man, especially an athlete like Dwight Howard. They played better the whole season when Turkoglu ran the team, not Nelson. The easts lack of elite point guards seriously favors the Magic, as Nelson is too much of a liability to guard someone like a Chris Paul a Deron Williams or even Steve Nash.

ballaj334Participantwithout a doubt manu. This man hasn’t played a complete season in years.. and yet all everyone talks about is when hes back there unbeatable. How bout the fact he might have the greatest power forward ever a top 5 nba point guard on his team and one of the greatest coaches in nba history. I’m not saying the guy cant play but its not 2005 anymore and hes a sixth man he plays one good game every 5 and instead of people saying ginobli had a good game for a change they always say when is he going to be his oldself and if you look at the stats hes been the most inconsistent player of the last 8 years he just a solid role player who should never even be thought of as an allstar! plus he travels EVERYTIME he touches the ball aha

chenager40ParticipantId say Nate Robinson for sure and then I’d go with Dirk. I love both of these guys but let me explain.
Robinson is playing on a team that currently has no star player and their only other true scorer is David Lee. I think when someone wins a dunk contest, people think of them as either being a good player or having a lot of potential. I dont think he’ll ever be an all-star.
Dirk did deserve MVP that year but he is always on the team that chokes in the playoffs. If he was as great as people say he is, he would have stepped up in those 2 series and the mavericks would have 2 titles right now.

jcl249ParticipantWhen it matters the most he’s the go to guy, okay he may not make the big shot as much as other players but at least he gets it done efficiently, he’s lead his team to 9 straight 50 win seasons. He just hasn’t had the help he needs, all good PF’s need a good SG. He has Terry yes, but he is undersized and his offense is negated by his defense.
KG-Allen
Smith-Johnson
Gasol-Kobe
Alridge-Roy
Duncan-Ginobili
Jamison-Butler
Randolph-Mayo
Green-HardenHow does Terry compare to any of these SG’s?
If anything Terry is overrated. Again how is Dirk more overrated than T-Mac, Williams, and Gay. The guy will last extra years because all he does is shoot he’ll probably play till hes like 37 because of style of play. He won’t be declining anytime soon i say in about 4 years. By then Beaubois will take over and Dirk will get those wideopen looks like he did when Harris was here.

PsychoTforPresidentParticipantSome people won’t like this post but, I am throwing Luol Deng into this mix. Yes I realize he was injured this year, but before that he was only averaging 14 ppg and 6 rpg, is that really worth the 10 million he is making. His numbers have declined since his 3rd year and he seems like he is heading more towards a Shane Battier career then say a Melo type career.

Basketballfuture22ParticipantI think the term overrated is simply opinion but if I had to pick a player, I would go with Chris Bosh. He can play really well and is a legit 20points-10 rebounds guy. My Issue is, can he be a 1st option? I think if he opts out in 2010, he will be looked upon as a championship piece by most teams (Cleveland, Miami, New York) and a superstar by some (Dallas, New Jersey, etc)

D_LegendParticipantIm going to touch on a couple players that you guys mentioned.
Chris Bosh for one, I agree that he needs to bring his team to the playoffs to be labeled “an elite” but saying he might not be a top 10 PF is a little ridicules.
Andre Iguodala CAN NOT shut down Kobe, 5 points off is season average means nothing, I will say he is one of the leagues better defenders tho. But offensively he’s way too inconsistent and that’s why he will soon take second option to Thaddeus Young.
Hedo Turkoglu I dont recall anyone calling him a Superstar, so im not sure how he’s overrated? He’s 6’10 with great court vision, ball handling and a jump shot. He’s shown over and over again for the past few years that he’s clutch. His only weakness is is inability to defend consistently.
Josh Smith does in fact shoot way too many three’s but, I bet if he had a true playmaking point running his team, we would see a whole different player. I would love to have him on my team any day.
And to finish it off my vote for most overrated is…….. drum role……….. its a tie Tracy McGrady, and Dirk Nowitzki0 - Posted on: Tue, 07/21/2009 - 5:03am #185954

bballdave3ParticipantI think it became quite apparent that Marion had been severely overrated for awhile. The guy turned out to be the epitome of a system player in Phoenix. After he left the team the guy has struggled in set offenses, and will probably never return to the all-around threat he achieved in D’Antoni’s run and gun system in Phoenix.

JNixonParticipant1.)If Andre Iguodala is inconsistent on offense, what would you consider Thaddeus Young? Andre Iguodala isnt inconsistent at all. He gets you about 20 pts, 5 rebs, and 5 assts every night. He defends the other team best perimeter player and usually holds them to below average games. And he does everything else better than Thad too, never get why people think he will be better. Never one time in my ENTIRE life seen Thaddeus Young create his own shot. EVER. And I’ve never seen him take anyone out of their comfort zone when he plays defense. Andre Iguodala will always be better. No doubt in my mind.
2.) You dont have to be a superstar to be overrated. Hedo Turkoglu had a pretty good playoff performance with Orlando, has been one of the more productive players in the game over the last 2 years, yes. But before then, was he really a player that if you saw him leave in free agency you would lose sleep over? Im talking about his San Antonio, Sacremento days, the days when he was a mediocre player. I know I wouldnt. I think he was a system player with Orlando, and everybody all of a sudden thinks he is a step up from Vince Carter. HAHA, what a joke. Hedo will NOT push Toronto over the top, I guarantee it. He is a system player, pretty overrated right now
3.) Josh Smith doesnt take alot of 3’s, he takes to many mid-range shots. He still a fairly raw player, who just scores off of shots close to the basket and gets noteriety because he makes vicious blocks because of his athleticism. Atlanta doesnt have a guy like a Chris Paul or Deron Williams running the point, but Mike Bibby does direct traffic and set guys up to make plays. Josh Smith just settles and he doesnt move well without the ball, and when you tell him to do something that doesnt involve him, he conplains. If you want that on your team, more power to ya!
