Larry Bird

This is funny because everyone knows that Larry Bird is signing as many white players as he can. It is so obvious and funny at the same time. I don’t think he is racist of anything but I think he is caught up in the days when there were more white players on teams.

Bird would have had to pay Daniels almost 8 mill next year, so letting him go is the best option. Scalibrine is in the final year of his contract, so it’s not like a major commitment. And at this point, it is just a rumor anyways. Last I checked, he just signed Earl Watson yesterday, but that does’nt matter, right?

you can find a reason to explain anybody he signs. Watson was only signed because there are no good backup white pg’s. Hibbert and Rush were drafted because there were’nt any good white players available. They traded for tj ford because Nesterovic was included. Granger is only the team because they can’t trade him for Nowitzky. You guys are funny.

I think if the Pacers did this, it would be to purely help out Daniels. After all, he just lost a ton of cash form having his contract terminated. I doubt the Celtics are pushing for this anyways. I think they will be using Scalibrine for a trade later on down the road. Besides if they REALLY wanted to help the guy out they could have just not messed with his contract and let it expire after the season.

It would be funny though if Larry Bird was able to acquire every white American player in the NBA. He’s still not a racist though. I think like most people, he wants to see someone that looks like him doing well (i.e., the billions of Yao fans and Casspi and the Israelis).

Yeah, I agree that everyone only points out when he signs white players. I do it just as a joke. I truly think he picks guys based on personality and playing ability. When he got to Indiana the team was mostly black. He didn’t blow that team up because he wanted to, but because he had to. It so happened that the teams that were willing to trade for those high risk players had good players (that happened to be white) that were getting overpaid. If anyone had been paying attention they would have noticed that he was considering Ramon Sessions for the team.

Realistically one team has more white players than others. So what. If someone really cares about that stuff and makes a big deal about it, then maybe they are racist. It’s all about the W’s with Larry Bird.

The thing that gets me is that the Pacers as a whole have no real athletes at all. That is probably the strangest thing about the team. Look at Hibbert, Rush, Granger, now Watson as well. TJ Ford is probably their best athlete, but that doesn’t say much and he has absolutely nobody to run with. How can a team in the NBA in 2009 have not at least one outstanding athlete. Maybe the Pacers will be the first NBA team to move to Europe where they can keep up a little better.

I seem to be alone on this, but I’ll argue anyways. I just think the NBA transcends race. Bird was always respected by other black players(except detroit). He makes moves to win, not be white. Look at that group of guys you just listed:

Dunleavy & Murphy can both ball. They are arguably the second and third options on that team. They traded SJackson and Harrington because they were poor public images and the fans got sick of it. Jackson was aressted for shooting his gun out side a club after he was given a second chance after the brawl. Harrington was asking to be traded.

Hansbrough was the best player available. Other teams were talking about taking him earlier, and he showed why in the sumer league

Foster was on the team before Bird took over. Plus he is athletic and plays good d.

Diener hardly counts because he is a third stringer who never sees the court.

Nesterovic is not expected back, even though TJ ford has been publicly lobbying for Bird to resign him.

And McRoberts is a young project who may or not make the team.

The team is still primarily black, and if you guys are gonna keep hinting at Bird putting together a white team, then don’t beat around the bush and just come out and say it, you think he is a racist, because that is what this is really about.

Are you sure he was the GM for the C’s when they took Montross and Earl? That is the first time I’ve ever heard that.

Those pics were his. Yup he took Earl too. He did not stay with the team long after that. He was the special assistant in terms of title your right not the GM llperez22. He was the guy they were listening to in terms of player personnel though. He said why we picked the guys and I they called both player his pics.

Bird screwed up on those two. But I’ve always had the feeling that there are multiple people involved in the picks for any team. I read that Jordan really wanted to go with Brook Lopez over DJ Augustine last draft, but that Larry Brown swayed the team towards DJ.

I always thought of Bird as a much better coach than GM, since I wasn’t very impressed by his ability to choose good players. He seems better at evaluating them when he’s been around them for a while or played with them, but not from a distance. It’s a bit baffling. He’s like the mirror image of Isiah Thomas.

i have defended Bird in terms of the race thing, but I can’t really defend his abilities as a GM. But give Indiana a chance, ever since bird took over, he has to deal with the suspensions, Artest demanding a trade, injuries to key players like Jermaine Oneal, inconsistent play from the pg position, and last year, Granger was basically sitting out or playing injured from the all-star game on and Dunleavy missed basically the whole season. I’m not readt to write off Bird yet as a gm. That job takes time.

Isiah was hands down the worst GM I’ve ever seen, so I would’nt even begin to compare them. Thomas was given a blank check and told to do whatever he wanted and he spent more oney then anybody in the league on guys like Curry, Marbury, Francis, Jerome James, Malik Rose, Jamal Crawford, Jared Jeffries, to name a few. He also gave Larry Brown the highest salary in the history of coaches and said less then a year later that they were never on the smae page before firing him. And got into a sexual harrasment suit with an employee.

That’s pretty rough to throw Bird into that same category at this point.

If it ends up being a sign and trade they should at least get Walker back. Going back to Scalibrine…him and Brian Cardinal must be clones of each other…

I actually like a lot of the Pacer’s players both black and white, they would just all be better if they weren’t on the same team. Murphy would look really nice playing with a dominate low post scorer. Dunleavy would be an excellent 6th man. TJ Ford on a running team…

Bird was an excellent coach. I actually wished that he had kept coaching longer. His teams were really competitive and played well. Larry Bird the GM, not so much. He’s really struggled to bring in good young talent, but I think think their team is better than what you see night in and out. They play extremely hard, they are just having problems staying healthy. They probably could have competed for the 8th spot if they had been healthier. Hopefully Dunleavy can make a recovery because he’s a big part of what they do.

F(cked up cause Brooke would have changed the course of that Franchise. It would be nice for Okafor to move over to the PF because that is what I feel he is.

agreed. Augustin will be a quality pg, but he might not beat out Felton for awhile. Lopez can become an all-star center, and those don’t come around very often.
