The8thDeadlySinParticipantNow that we have seen a preview of the rookies in Las Vegas, who is the best at their positions??
PG: Tyreke Evans – I had my doubts about him being the 4th pick in the draft but after a few games, a couple where he flirted with a triple double, I am convinced. So far, he is the best PG in this draft. I dont know if he will hold his position at the top for long, but at 6’5 he has great size. In the summer so far, he is averaging 19ppg, 6reb, and 4ast. Thats pretty damn good.
SG: Demar Derozen – I almost put Curry here but to me he is a PG. Derozen doesnt seem to make bad plays. He takes good shots, he plays good defence, and he hits the boards. Just like Evans, he has great size at 6’7 and super athletic ability. So far in the summer he is averaging 17ppg, 4reb, and 1ast. So maybe he isnt looking to pass much but lookin like a player.
SF: James Johnson – Just a great all around player. Loves to make a great pass, willing to rebound, and can put the ball on the ground and get to the rim and has shown some range. Strong body, great size at 6’9. Wanted to put Daye here but he has been a PF/C all SummerLeague. So far, he is averaging 16ppg, 7reb, and 3.5ast.
PF: Blake Griffin – Obviously. He would be here with no visible improvement from last year, however, there are some vast improvements. Guy is playing defence, making some great passes, and most of all, shooting the midrange shot and a few threes. He is just a man. He has amazing athletic ability and great stregnth along with some good size. So far he is averaging 20ppg, 11.5reb, and 3ast. Probably the most dominate rookie in the summer.
C: Austin Daye – I know this probably isnt where he will play in the regular season but he is in summer. However, he has more than exceded expetations. Despite his lack of stregnth, he has been very productive in the post. Good height for the SF/PF/C position. 6’11 looks good on paper untill you see his weight. Despite it, he is averaging pretty good numbers at 17ppg, 9reb, and 1ast. Despite his assist numbers, he is a pretty good play maker.
Runnerups….
PG: Steph Curry – 17ppg, 4.5reb, 4ast, and 2.5 steals. Great shooter, pretty good passer and average defender.
SG: Marcus Thornton – 21ppg, 3reb, .5ast, 2.5 steals. Great scorer but not much else. Those steal numbers can be deceptive.
SF: DeJuann Summers – 18ppg, 5.5reb, 1ast. Works his tail off and it shows in his production.
PF: Dante Cunningham – 21.5ppg, 7reb, 1.5st. Even though he has only played 2 games, they have been productive. Maybe unfair to say he is number 2 after 2 games but he is producing.
C: No clue. Because its definatly not Thabeet or Mullins. How bout some suggestions??
Most Suprising Player Thus Far…
Toney Douglas – 9ppg, 4reb, 7ast, and 2steals. Suprised me as a playmaker. If he could just knock down a shot he would have possibly been the number 2 point guard.
Most Dissapointing Player Thus Far…
Hasheem Thabeet – 8ppg, 4.5reb, and .5blks. Maybe its just me, but I would expect the 1st center taken in the draft that stands 7’3 to have substantually more rebounds a game than the 30th pick, who is a pg btw. IMO, a huge dissapointment.
Who are your players in these catagories??
By the way, this is just as of today, 07/18/09.

Knicksboy34ParticipantDude…It summer League. I’m not calling Thabeet a disappointment yet

MattissickParticipantI’ll expand on this post later but for right now i’d like to say that J Flynn had a nice game today with 24 points and made it to the line often. I think he is a dark horse contender for ROY. It will prob go to the media’s fav player though- Griffin.

llperezflynn has proabably played better then Evans or Curry. Harden has been solid as well. Guys like Buddinger, Summers, Collison, Blair among others have looked like potential steals.
Thabeet definitely looks weak. I’ll be honest though, I’ve only watched a couple Orlando and Vegas games, the rest is just based on checking out the boxscores.

Michael.S.ParticipantMost Dissapointing Player Thus Far Thabeet. agreed HOPEFULLY he will step up, i like the guy
I love Tyreke but he is a natural 2 . he is a scorer and playing him at 1 you are not using him right.
My list
Flynn , Jennings , or Rubio at the 1 cant decide
evans first with derozan close behind at the 2
Clark at the 3
Griffin at the 4
Daye at the 5 even though he will never be a 5 again

The8thDeadlySinParticipantOk…Knicks, this was directed at just how they have preformed in the summer league. Nobody is a bust untill they play a couple year, im just saying he is dissapointing to me. I loved him at UCONN, but im very dissapointed as of now. Come on, 4.5 rebounds???? He could just stand with his arms up and get that many.

dwat4444ParticipantIf were including the orlando league then…
Evans(beastly so far. not sure he’s meant for pg still though)
Harden (him and westbrook looked like beasts in orlando, not sure what happened in summer league)
Daye(he’s not a center at all)
Griffin(biggest thing for him was showing he has a shot and can dribble)
Mullens(Out of basically 2 center options he’s shown some potential with a nice touch around the rim)
let the negative points begin VVVVVVVV0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/18/2009 - 5:46pm #184208

Knicksboy34ParticipantLOL…The Minute i posted that i was like ” wow, i sound like a douche”
I think Thabeet is “finding his way” on the glass. I saw at least 3 games where he looked a little timid in the 1st half and did well in the 2nd

The8thDeadlySinParticipantI didnt mean to put it that way. But for real, 4 rebounds???

Knicksboy34Participantok dwatt4444..time to make it rain negatives!!!
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/18/2009 - 5:51pm #184215

MagikKnickParticipantYeah, its just summer league, but i’ll my watered down version anyway
PG: Tyreke Evans/BJennings
SG:DeRozan/Thornton
SF: Budinger/Daye
PF: Cunningham/Hill (it was unfair to add Griffin…)
C: Nobody, this draft wasnt weak, only big man weak..Surprising: Roderick Beaboius
Dissapointing: Jack McClinton…last time I said anything about Thabeet I got -15, lmao..0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/18/2009 - 6:03pm #184227

The8thDeadlySinParticipantPeople cant bash ya anymore about Thabeet because he isnt producing yet. Once he is a double double machine, and blocking a bunch of shots, then they can talk trash. lol
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/18/2009 - 6:14pm #184230

JNixonParticipantPG: Roddy Beaubois, Brandon Jennings
SG: Tyreke Evans (I just cant think of him as a PG), Nick Young, Anthony Morrow
SF:Austin Daye, Anthony Randolph
PF:Blake Griffin, Dante Cunningham
C:Wow… Im not naming anyone lolThose were the best and most consistent guys,I think alot of the guys are going to be factors this year in some way or another though.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/18/2009 - 6:24pm #184235

The8thDeadlySinParticipantI was talkin about rookies but I agree with everyone execept the first PG.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/18/2009 - 6:52pm #184247

llperezyou think Daye has been more impressive then Anthony Randolph?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/18/2009 - 8:29pm #184268

jerb2011Participantyaw think somebody else is better than James Harden. he would look better, assist and ppg wise if the players around him( besides Westbrook) were better, many of the assists he would makes are wide open bricks by the other players
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/19/2009 - 5:08am #184308

JNixonParticipantNo I dont. It wasnt in a true order And James Harden hasnt played as good as alot of the 2-guards in summer league.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/19/2009 - 5:31am #184310
kotyParticipantRubio isnt playing in the summer league
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/19/2009 - 7:07am #184328
STEVEDOT2Participantnobody talking bout ibaka?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/19/2009 - 7:21am #184332

The8thDeadlySinParticipantHarden hasnt been fantastic this summer. Only average. If his teammates are so bad, then why isnt he scoring more, or at least looking to score.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/19/2009 - 7:29am #184342
billykParticipantTyreke Evans CANNOT play off the ball (low bball IQ), he needs the ball in his hands to be effective……
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/19/2009 - 8:04am #184368

sheltwon3ParticipantI Like Jenning for the top point guard. HIs assist games and steal have been remarkable even though this is summer League. His shooting needs improvements but as a point guard he has been the best with Evans a close second.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/19/2009 - 8:08am #184376

R-Dot-13ParticipantI completely agree with Iguodala 9’s list
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/19/2009 - 8:14am #184380

The8thDeadlySinParticipantI just thought of a second Center for the original post…. How about:
Dejuan Blair – 16ppg, and 9reb. He will probably play some C in the regular season so that Duncan can play the PF. He is an absolute steal in this draft. What do ya think?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/19/2009 - 8:23am #184390

R-Dot-13ParticipantYes, if you concider him a C
0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/19/2009 - 8:33am #184396
meisi4Participantmy best rookies by position:
pg: jennings (will get a chance to play in MIL and hasn´t many players who will take away his shots)
evans (more a sg to me although he will play pg in SAC as long as they have martin)
sg: harden (a good solid player who may start in OKC and have a good rookie year)
derozan (was more ready than i thought during the summer but will have his problems during the year)
sf: maybe summers but i don´t see much great sf in this draft
pf: blake griffin (no need to explain)
dejuan blair (could make the starter job in SA and can do the “dirty work”)
c: no great ones but the best rookie season will have mullens i thinkone word to rubio he isn´t playing in summer league and i´m sorry to say this he won´t be playing in the states until he is traded!
