Who the Orlando Magic needs to draft?

 The Magic need a legit player to build around. 

I think the top guys on the board are Fultz, Ball, Jackson, and Isaac.  In the next group I have Fox, Monk, Tatum, and maybe Smith Jr., and Markannen. Zach Collins is hard to place. I wanna see how his work outs go. Lots of upside there but also downside. 

Yeah, I like Jordan Bell, too. He and TJ Leaf are my next guys on my unofficial power poll.  So as high as 11 and 12… most likely top 15. Relative steals at 20. 

If your team really needs wings with range then you look at Kennard and Justin Jackson but I don’t think you look at them much higher than 15-20, and I would like their value a bit more after 25.  

I know it sounds like a joke, but with Johnathan Williams declaring (but not hiring an agent) you could do worse than going with a couple of Zags bigs as high as the mid 2nd round: Williams and Karnowski.  

Frank Mason Jr. should go a bit higher than you might think as either a middling backup point guard on the next level (most likely scenario) or third string point guard (basement). Either way you get cheap point guard depth. Mason III might be a reach in the late 20’s or maybe not… Nigel Hayes is the next guy on your board when you realize that this draft isn’t as deep as you thought it was — or at least the latter part of the draft.

 If they can’t get a top 3 pick, maybe they should try to get a super team full of flawed stars and highly talented knuckleheads.

Sign Blake Griffin, Javale McGee, Derrick Rose, and Shaun Livingston then go out and trade Elfrid Payton, Terrence Ross, Biyombo, and all their picks (plus a future first) for Paul George.  

Tatum with the lottery pick and then take a flyer on Giles with the later pick, two dukies might be good to one each other… 

 A PG… Elfrid is just bad

 The Magic are a team with some talented players who put up nice numbers but cannot turn that into collective team success. So they are always harder to judge who they need to draft as they look to have decemt depth in some positions but are still one of the worse teams in the NBA.

I’d not expect them to take a frontcourter especially a C as they have good depth there. A combo forward is an option and if they may well look at Isaac. Tatum would be a safe pick and could be the sort of glue guy who could improve the team collectively without being a huge stats filler.

If they get into the lottery then I think it’s BPA – Fultz, Jackson, Ball in that order, also have a good look at Fox and a couple of others if they get say 3rd pick.

If they stay put or fall a bit – then apart from Tatum and Isaac, I’d have a long look at Dennis Smith as he could be the spark this team needs.

If we assume they draft at 5 my preferences in order would be Tatum, Smith and Isaac

I would select a point gaurd but not necassarily to replace Elfrid Payton. Most of the point gaurds in this draft are able to play multiple positions. Fultz, Ball and Smith all have very different games than Payton. Fox is a but similar skill wise although has a different pace and mentality but that could also work as they would be a great 1a 1b option depending on whos game is strong at the time of each game.

 I strongly beleive in having a team with two capable starting PG’s not necassarily playing together but one starting and one off the bench.

 When the Raptors won the Atlantic with Chris Bosh, Jose Calderon and TJ Ford teams really struggled to deal with Toronto’s fresh and explosive PG play. It also creates great internal competition and allows the team to pretty much always have a ready PG available if one or the other has an off night or a baf matchup. 

For all of Eric Bledsoe’s career he has been part of teams with 2 good PG’s. The Chris Paul and Eric Bledsoe lineup was a great example of overwhelming PG play. Same with CP3 and Collison at New Orleans. 

The Magic have failed to form a team identity. Frank Vogel has never really emphasized on PG play but when starting from scratch with a young team I would say it is the most important posiyion to solidify in todays NBA. Payton has shown flashes but has not consistently been able to win his position and compete with Thomas, Irving, Lowry, Walker, and Dragic out East. Drafting a PG could give Orlando many possibilities, a kick in the butt to get Payton going, a new route if Payton gets outplayed, some help for Payton in a dual PG role and a new identity for the team.

 They need a PG. Payton is not a starter in this league. I would take Fox over Tatum with the 3rd pick. Orlando have the athletes that can run with Fox, that would be exicting. I would also try to package one of those bigs and the late 1st rd pick to move up in the draft, free up some cap space and get another young prospect. 

What the hell is up with that horrible haircut…it doesn’t help him at all.  The guy already is undersized, having a bad haircut makes him look even more lazy.  I’m a believer in dress like a star act like a star play like a star…someone should talk to him because that haircut is depressing.

If I was them, they are lucky because its the perfect draft for them.  Orlando stinks man, they’ve had their own version of "the process", but have come away with Gordon (an athletic tweener with very little skill and ball IQ), Hezonja (see the Gordon description), Payton (a nice player but really undersized for a PG at the strongest position in the game, plus is just a classic PG not a modern era PG).

Fournier, Vucevic, and Ross are nice players, and Tatum would definitely help, but I think their most pressing need, being that they don’t play in any sort of system, is Lonzo Ball who the OP totally omitted.  

They have a decent set of players but no energy, I think Payton sucks the energy off that team.  Ball is pure energy and excitement.  I think he’d be a really nice fit but so would any of the PGs in this draft.  

Tatum is too much of a question mark, and Jackson is limited offensively, its not the right fit for Josh Jackson.  They need to go flashy guard, Smith, Fox, Ball, or Fultz wold be ideal.  But Fultz doesn’t come off a floor leader, he doesn’t have the personality.

I think Fultz best fit is with an established team, like Philly who has the nucleus, or Boston…and Ball is your team leader.  

 Agree about Payton hair, it’s really hinder his grow as a player, it’s a nonsense that he need to stop and start focusing on basketball only and be dedicated..,

 I don’t know if I’d agree with some suggesting that the Magic take DeAaron Fox if they can’t get Fultz. In today’s NBA 2K style 3-point spamming basketball, your PG really needs to be able to shoot. They already have Payton, who clearly can’t.

 Do you really take a risk on drafting another PG that who’s main weakness is his shot? I agree with OP, if Fultz is off the board, then you have to take either Jackson or Tatum. I also forsee both of them playing some 4 in the NBA once their bodies fill out more. Maybe then Aaron Gordon becomes a bargaining chip?
