This guy was projected to be a top 10 pick on multiple sites back in 2015 before he came over to the states, but nowadays you barely see his name on mocks. Why is that?

A lot of people look at his production over his time at Kansas and say hes underperformed. A lot of those same people dont realise this kid came to Kansas as a 16/17 year old. And got minutes. As a 17 year old kid he was getting minutes on a legitimate national title contender. That alone speaks volumes to his talent. I see a lot of conjecture about him not putting up big enough numbers as a junior, but I reiterate- this kid is still only 19. He’s 4 months YOUNGER than Josh Jackson.

He’s playing on a team with 2 of the best upperclassmen at guard in the country in Frank Mason and Devonte Graham, which eliminates a lot of the minutes at both the lead guard and off guard, his natural positions. He then has the number one recruit in the country, who game by game is looking more and more like a star at the next level, vying with him for the bulk of the remaining minutes on the wing. He’s not in a position to put up gaudy numbers. He’s in a position to play a role and be on one of the best teams in the country.

When you look at his play this season its been good but not great. Hes a streaky shooter who has good form and when set can really shoot it. He’s great on spot ups and coming off screens but his form is a bit slow and mechanical and he struggles to get it up off the dribble. He is a plus athlete who can really jump, but he has a similar issue to Zach Lavine in that while he does have some great bounce, he lacks strength and thus struggles to show this off unless given lots of space. when attacking the hoop. This has shown in his struggles at the rim, and highlights his lack of strength. However, I think this is simply a matter of still being young, and I think a combination of age and getting into an NBA strength and conditioning program will help him improve in this area. A lot of guys struggle at 19 when theyre still skinny to finish through contact.

What I really like out of him as a prospect is his ability to make plays as a passer and creater for his team. He has great court vision and at 6’8 he has terrific size for a 2 guard. When given the keys in international play he’s played fantastically as the primary ballhandler, as evidenced by his triple double at the 2016 adidas Eurocamp. Granted, his 11 assists came against 6 turnovers, and he does often go for the homerun play instead of slowing down and assessing the court for the best option sometimes, this again, is moreso a product of age and a small kink to work out for a team.

The talent is there for this guy to be an absolute steal for a team in the second round whether it be this year or next when he comes out, and I’m hoping he stays another year and shows out a bit more with some minutes opening up for him with Jackson presumably making the jump along with the seniors on the team. A few years of seasoning and an NBA conditioning program and this guy is going to be a great wing at the next level.

It’s not like people have forgotten about him, he was actually projected to go in the first round by this site and draftexpress for a couple of months this year.

He didn’t play fantastically as a prmary ball-handler though, he was really inefficient and played out of control a lot, showing he’s not really ready for this kind of role yet. He is basically a college freshman/sophmore and still has loads of potential, I’m sure most teams hope he stays another year and shows what he can do in an increased role. Right now he’s the 3rd or 4th option on offense whenever he plays and it’s always a risk drafting guys like that.

I think he has a chance to be a top 20 pick next year, if he really develops and plays well — perhaps even a lottery pick. It’s very rare to get such a young guy with so much experience: he will have played on a Ukranian team, appeared in multiple international competitions, spent 4 years at college… that’s quite a resume for a guy who will just turn 21 years old around draft time.

I agree with most of what you said, but I’d like to talk about the risk of drafting a third or fourth option. I don’t think his value at the next level is going to be him going one on one or being a tremendous scorer- I think he will make his career by being so incredibly versatile at 6’8, being able to really fit into the modern day positionless NBA. He can shoot well enough to keep defenses honest, he can pass, and he can guard multiple positions. As such, I think he ends up being a super role player type, and for those reasons, even if he stays as just a 3rd or 4th option next year, I don’t see him being a eisky pick due to that, because his value will come from the wealth of other things he does. Though I do think he will probably end up blowing up a bit next season and being more if a go to guy, perhaps along the lines of 14 points, 4 assists, on something like 43% shooting and high 30%s from 3.

I’ve got him going late first in my mock. A guy with so much experience yet still so much room to grow is RARE like you said. The Spurs are going to have to replace Manu…I could certainly see them taking him and grooming him into a key contributor, if he decides to come out this year.

If he plays well next year.

I dont really think age is a good way to measure potential. You also have to consider the experience to production ratio. Most 4 year players have alot of production as seniors. Next year he will have tons of room to shine with Mason and Jackson gone and what looks like a weak recruiting class for Kansas (Duval is being strongly recruited but has eligibility issues, Knox is being stongly recruited but seems to be leaning towards Duke, Florida St., Kentucky).

Svi has been playing college basketball for 4 years and has made improvements. You can sort of see what kind of player he is and can read into his tendencies at this point. The thing is in this case I dont really think he is still developing much skill at this point but mostly he is trying to develop his habits and get rid of the negative ones going forward.

He provides alot of positive skills. Great size, ideally you could have him play three positions, athletic, good passer. Needs to work on some go to moves in the halfcourt and his ballhandling. When I think about his college career I cant help but think about an inconsistent player that often spaces out and struggled to get involved. From a night to night basis you still dont know what youll get from him and while you compare his age to Josh Jackson you cant compare his experience in relatuon to production. Like you said he was just a kid when he came over but when he goes pro he wont be able to use that "Im only 20 years old" or "Im only 21 years old" card. Teams will expect production and consistency immediately and he projects as a player who could struggle.

I do think he is an NBA player though and has all the makings of a longtime NBA pro.

Seems to play alot better for Ukraine though when he gets to be the man. I wluld love to see if this shines through next year at Kansas. Has a bit of Joe Johnson in him when he dons the yellow.
