SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantSean Miller is highly overrated. Just lost to his past assistant and pervious school. If I’m Arizona I might be looking to make a move. Arizona is a big time school. Almost anyone could make the sweet 16 every year with that recruiting advantage. Sean Miller isn’t Lute Olson he hasn’t won a thing at Arizona.

Jr. ROXASParticipantYea, Arizona couldn’t find any good shots vs the 2-3 zone of Xavier. Xavier was content on giving up threes late on the shot clock, and Arizona kept missing them. C-Webb kept asking why AZ wasn’t pounding the ball down low to Markannen and he was right. He has like a 5 inch advantage over the Xavier bigs.

llperezi agree with you that they couldnt get anything going vs the zone and settled for lots of threes. But they did try on darn near every possesion to get it to markkanen. the openings werent there and he isnt that great a 1 on 1 player. best thing they had going was dribble penetration from the wings which only happened so many times. Thats on sean miller to figure out how to overcome that zone and he failed. i also have no idea why dusan ristic was the guy to go one on one on the low box the last time the game was tied and they were still in it with under a minute. Ristic should have been the last option. Of course even after his airball jumphook, it was still tied with a chance to play defense except markkanen was dumb and got the over the back foul called on him going for a rebound out of position allowing xavier to come down and take the game winning lead at the ft line. Zona has to be kicking themselves blowing that late 9 point lead with around 5 minutes left.

OhCanada-ParticipantThey did try to get the ball to Markannen but it was an obviously lame attempt. I mean the kids didnt know what to do against the zone. I know seattlesuperchronics is a Sean Miller hater but he is right. Miller got outcoached by his assistant and thats it.
Markannen knew what had to happen. He kept trying to find open spaces on the floor after being denied the ball in high post areas but Arizonas gaurds panicked whenever the clock ran low. Against that zone you cant be throwing passes to players standing still there has to be movement. Then when the ball handler draws the defence you have to quickly find the open man. It got so bad Trier just decided shooting overtop of the zone was the best idea which worked for a while but ran out of juice when the pressure was on.
Trevon Bluiett is in your mock drafts. This guy is stone cold. Him and probally Robinson are the biggest risers so far in my opinion.

Jr. ROXASParticipantIt seems like that last play from O’mara that won them the game is Mack’s pet play. They ran it twice previously in the game and it always worked. Xavier were out-executing Arizona all game.

thetruth87ParticipantChris Mack really is cementing himself as one of the best coaches out there. In 8 years at Xavier he now has gone to 3 sweet 16s and an elite 8. What’s even more impressive is he lost his entire backcourt with Myles Davis being out almost the entire year, and NBA prospect Edmund Sumner tearing his ACL in February. I’ve been to two Xavier games this year and came away very impressed with how coach Mack handles that team. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he’s coaching Indiana next year, although he is a Xavier alum. I hope he stays, but wouldn’t blame him if he left.

ph90702There’s no place like home. Indiana may be a better job, but Xavier is in a major conference, and I don’t think the better was of the job offsets the loss that he will feel from leaving home. This isn’t like Bryce Drew leaving Valois for Vandy.
