SubZeroParticipantAs a Kentucky fan, last season was a tortured one for me. I thought Skal and Jamal were gonna be Penny and Shaq but it ended up looking more like Brandon Roy and (injured) Greg Oden. However, the talent was always there for Skal and I had high hopes for him entering the draft and still believed in him. Honestly I thought for a minute that his career was over before it even started when he got drafted to the Kings, but he’s been playing very well lately, capped off with 32 and 11 (21 in the 4th and a sexy spin->jam) tonight against Phoenix. I think he and Cauley-Stein could actually develop into a good frontcourt pairing and I’m glad to see his potential everyone saw from high school is still there.
All that being said, I haven’t got to watch too much of the Kings since the trade. Are there any Kings fans that can give some more insight/opinions on Skal?

antiwork3000ParticipantKings trying to tank, started playing the young guys and they start winning. Skal has been having big games, outplayed Chriss tonight. Gonna be a big part of their future but it’s time to put the vets back in. They may lose their first round pick. I swear kangz can’t even tank right.

BasterdInABasketParticipantWinning?
SAC is 3-8 since the trade, which coincided with Skal getting more minutes. wining their last two games to horrid Suns and Magic teams. Don’t worry they’re trying and succeeding in tanking.

negguaryParticipantin tank mode Is like 30-8, every win takes you further away from first which is actually last.

BasterdInABasketParticipant2-8 in their last ten, second worst in the league behind LAL, and only because they played two fellow bottom feeders. Look at their next seven games, no wins in there until maybe their matchup against NO and DCuz

antiwork3000ParticipantImmediately after the trade they were still trying for the playoffs and were starting the vets koufos, tolliver, tyreke, lawson, and Collison. Only since last two games did they start playing all the young guys. Koufos didn’t even suit up against Orlando and Papagiannis actually played both games. Willie and Skal got big minutes and they won both games so… Yeah I get it both Orlando and Phoenix suck but Kings should be trying to suck more.

BasketBalAllanParticipantSkal looked great last night. I would caution everyone to be hesitant in anointing up and comers like Skal so quickly after a good game but I realize it is hard not to get excited when you see the potential.
What’s promising to me is that there is noticeable growth in the game since he has seen more of a reliable role. We shall see how he finishes the season with the certainty of constant playing time.
I have noticed that he needs to work on not shrinking away from certain plays, as sometimes he can appear a bit timid on the court.
Also, to the people talking about the Kings not “tanking” well, you have to realize that while winning too much would take them out of their top 10 protected, they also do not want to risk a top three pick by being too low because of the ability for Philadelphia to swap picks. They are actually perfectly positioned in the draft at the moment and hopefully stay there.

Jr. ROXASParticipantMan, Skal looks like he really hit the weight room and developed his body. Good for him because he was getting boxed out like crazy in Kentucky.

OhCanada-ParticipantHes defenitely working his butt off. He is also getting different rebounds because he plays a different role. He no longer has to box out the opponents primary rebounds while being expected to be the teams anchor defensively which allows him to chase down and predict loose balls paths. Now he plays PF next to WCS and Papa Giannis. So they are boxing out the primary rebounder and Skal gets to use his athletisism and agillity to be more of an active chase down, reaching rebounder if that makes sense.

EspressoParticipantI remember the first college where he had like 2 turnaround jupmers and I went crazy with it.
I kept mentioning how he has one of the sweetest turnaround jumpers for a big man prospect. Looks like the turnaround has became his main move and it is absolutely a perfect motion.
His turnaround jumper form is one of the best in the nba atm with dirk, bosh, and Porzingis, and myles turner.
his off the dribble shot as well, albeit almost never used is an absolute beauty. I also find it funny that even in college he always like shooting hooks with his left hand, which makes for a perfect pairing with his turnaround jumper;
Hope he adds on to the quality big men coming up right now.

OhCanada-ParticipantSkal is the real deal. His jumpshot is the closest thing to Nowitzkis Ive seen. So smooth and can adjust in mid air lean either way and still get a picture perfect shot off. Everyone wrote him off on this forum but he was played out of position and his game isnt suited for college. Its not spaced out enough, Cal likes traditional bigs but idk why he didnt have Skal in a role similar to Willis this year.
I was so surlrised when Toronto didnt draft him. Masai Ujiri opted to go witj his Afrocan connections drafting Siakam instead after he shot well during workouts but throughout the year Siakam hadnt been able to hit the midrange J consistently or catch the ball which is so disappointing. Siakam would be in the rotation and likely score 4-6 more points per 30 minutes of he could just catch the ball because he beats bigs down the floor athletically and hustle wise. Bricks for hands.

antiwork3000ParticipantI don’t remember in all my days a guy dunking so much with his weak hand. He jumps as much on his right foot, palming the ball with his left hand and dunking, with power to boot. Closest I can remember is Duncan throwing a left handed hook shot with regularity. But the ability in tight spaces to get up with either hand is refreshing.

Mr. 19134ParticipantI thought Toronto was gonna and should have drafted him 9th over Poetl. I had the Raps or Bucks taking a flyer on Thon or Skal. I knew Thon would eventually move into the lottery and I was shocked Skal dropped so far out. There tools and potential are evident

Memphis MadnessParticipantI like the Kings potential. WCS is a freak, and Skal is turning it on. Really like Buddy Hield.
They NEED a point guard!
Ball would be really, really good. Fultz would be good. Although they should even look at De’Aaron Fox. I like his game — decent length.
They have their OWN pick and the Pelicans’ pick.
A point guard PLUS a small forward/wing like Tatum or Jonathan Isaac would be very, very good for them!
Could turn into a really, really good trade for the Kings. They can get a great pick and move on with the rebuild faster, reloading around WCS, Skal, and Hield.
By the way, how is Tyreke Evans playing in his return to Sacto?

IlladelphParticipantI just watched the highlights of the game on youtube. Skal looked really good. He got to the line a lot and made the throws. He also has an oddly high release. Every shot looked a perfect rainbow. He probably should be dunking a little more given his height but he still is not strong enough to muscle guys. He is strong enough to drive and get fouled though. Hit a nice three at the end there. Considering he basically played no meaningful high school basketball, and only had one year of real instruction at UK, he seems to be coming along nicely and probably has a lot more upside. I think his development is going to be more mental than physical. He needs to develop his confidence and then I think he could be an NBA starter eventually. Glad to see Skal on the right track.

BeastMode716ParticipantVery promising. I Luv the Boogie trade for Sacramento & I said it that night b/c of the very strong potential that they essentially will end up w/ 3 Lottery picks from the 2016 & 2017 Drafts
Buddy Hield who could become a decent piece w/ a Very important skill (Jump Shooter) plus 2 picks most likely in the 5 – 9 range in a Very deep 2017 Draft Lottery.
This trade took courage b/c Sacramento was Honest w/ themselves & recognized that they were Never winning w/ Boogie so why not cut him loose in what could be the deepest Draft in years.
I was Horrified when NBA Commish Adam Silver, at the MIT Analytics Conference, said that "Winning a Championship should Not be the Goal of Every NBA Franchise….."
My reaction was something along the lines of WTF!?!?!?!? It’s as if Silver wants fan bases to feel like they have a very well regarded Musical or Play in town & they should just Enjoy the Drama of the NBA. This logic – if one can call it logic – is so outlandishly misguided & it shows the True feelings of the NBA that prob 25 of the 30 teams are Cannon Fodder, Back Up Dancers, Extras there to provide context & excitement for the "Real" teams.
Sacramento finally decided no thanks, I’m going to go for it & see what happens. I respect that & I truly wish Sacramento good luck in the upcoming Draft b/c we now know the Commish feels Zero sense of urgency for the Have Nots of the League to even have a chance unless they Force their will on the League.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantEvery team has its day when its a top 4-6 legit contender in the league or wins it all…. But realistically 4-6 teams stand a chance this year = main stars/actors and the rest of the teams grow up as these stars age and their team fades usually and youth emerges to eventually get their turn into the bright lights-See lakers with Kobe and GSW/OKC wheb they came up through ranks as most rescent example and it will then be Cavs/GSW as ageing team while an young on the buble team will eventually take the GSW role as the young and upcoming team..Its all about the right coach, right talent, and pure luck in the playoffs of making it through relatively healthy to the big dance to who can really win it all..
As for the boogie trade though its a double edge sword sort of like the K-love and wiggins trade-Both traded stars for young promising talent and both teams sort of won the deal in a weird way..Cavs got their ring and Wolves potentially got one of their franchise players in return to go with KAT
The Kings gave up a player who they failed to build around properly and they refused to pay a super max, I will give them props for that as they could have had a mello and the knicks kind of situation going on there if they had paid him…Not good enough to win but now bad enough for a high pick…
as for the youth they have:
Skal as he said during the predraft he needed a team to be patient and he knew he could be something talented-give the kings some credit they are doing an alright job with his development…
WCS he could turn into a Tyson Chandler/D.J in his prime and he and Skal could be a nice fit due to style of play both have.
Papagianis – could also be a alright bench big if he used right.
As for Buddy he seems to finally shooting well/sort of turned the corner on that side of things, I would like to see him with a pass first PG and see how he goes and if that makes him hit his ceiling a little sooner/show people what he is really could do maybe the Kings could trade both of their picks for BAll? As I think Ball could be an interesting fit there…
