Jared Sullinger type player for better or for worse. Sully got fat quick though. Didnt even wait until his second contract and was too fat to play effectively for Toronto this year. What a shame.

I can see the Sully comp. Swanigan is such an awkward athlete, IMO, but his outside shooting + rebounding should get him NBA looks – however I don’t seem him as a 1st round pick. He doesn’t project as a plus defender in the NBA either, further hurting his stock.

Sullinger / DeJuan Blair / Big Baby Davis / Terry Mills. Good post player and 3 point shooter. Slow and unathletic which could be his downfall trying to make it into the NBA. Not a great defender. I think he will make a roster spot and might play a few years as a 8-10th man and struggle to get minutes.I cannot see him being a long term NBA starter

Swanigan is still someone who is transitioning into a healthier body. For him to already go from being close to 400 lbs in his early teens to where he is now is remarkable. To make the assumption that a person who worked as hard as he did to get to where he is currently would then stop does not seem sound to me. In the case of the guys you mentioned, they were always thick. When they got hurt and couldn’t work out, they seemed to go from being at a high end of a weight band at which they could be effective NBA players to just over it. If Sullinger’s foot is fully healthy and can spend the offseason getting and staying healthy (and he has to do it. It makes sense that a guy with his body would not fare well when recovering from a broken foot, but nobody is going to do him any favors), it is not crazy to think he could be a solid low cost value signing this summer. Maybe I am wrong, but I would think Swanigan’s body transformation would be more similar to Udonis Haslem’s situation.

Boston signed Zeller instead of Sullinger because Sully straight up told the Boston staff he wouldnt committ to thier workout and dietary expectations. He came into camp fat at about 280 which likely contributed to his foot injury. You can still ride a bicycle with a fractured foot or at least sit in a suana and stop eating garbage.

Swanigan however I agree with. Most people I know who have made body transformations even somewhat similar to his usually have an inner fear which prevents them from changing thier habits. They are so afraid of going back to the body type they hate that it would take somewhat of a life changing catastrophe for them to regress. Caleb is also a thick dude by nature though but like you said a body type luke a Udonis Haslem, Patrick Patterson, even Draymond Green would be a lofty yet attainable goal.

I love Swanigans potential and would take him anywhere from 15 on personally but I doubt NBA teams feel the same way so Ive got him as a late 1st in my mocks.

I didn’t try to defend Sullinger’s time in Toronto. I just think that, now that he is healthy and staring down things from the outside of the league at the moment, there could be value to some team getting him on a make-good contract this summer.

Just to add onto Swanigan, you also cannot separate his living situation getting stabilized with him getting healthier.

I hope Im wrong but I just feel like Sullinger needs to learn the hard way. I feel like at this point teams will expect him to showup in shape as apposed to expecting him to get in shape through thier guidance. The Raptors tried that and they got burnt wasting a valuable MLE they really couldce used at times this season. Your right he has all thw motivation in the world to get in shape but he did last year as well.

Coming out of Ohio St. I thought if he got in shape he was a 20-10 type guy. Just got fatter and fatter.
