ropeParticipantThe NBA has announced a new deal with Gatorade to sponsor the developmental league. They apparently will change the name to the G League and will include Gatorade branding on uniforms, ball, etc.
Kind of brilliant association. This will be the start of the influx of cash they need to establish a true minor league.
The NBA is as well run and well positioned for the future as any professional sports league in the world.

jjj10manParticipantHopefully they take the salary max off the D league and I don’t see why it doesn’t become a true minor league immediately. D league games already sometimes get on NBA Tv; if a top HS recruit went straight to the D league (which they can) it would get 10x as many views on their games

MatosParticipantGreat move. But I feel like NBDL will be shifting more toward an AFL/NFL relationship with the NBA and slowly sway from its original purpose as a "Development League".

Bankroll PJParticipantInteresting take. Care to explain why you think it will head in that direction?

MatosParticipantThis is just my opinion but I think the NBDL should have an age limit on who is playing or some type of limit in general. I like seeing players like Nat Robinson playing there but is there really development going on with him? Why not give younger guys more opportunities.
Also with this endorsement, yes more eyes will be going to NBDL. Some players may now be likely to skip out on college to play there, especially if there’s a nice chunk of change involved. The more endorsements, the more money. The more money, the higher the salary. The higher the salary, the more attraction when deciding where to play.

warson24Great to have a sponsor, but everything for the money?
Rename the NBA to NBKA, National Basketball Kia League! Rename the teams! New York Taco Bell Knicks, Brooklyn Toyotas! Just like in Europe, where every year is quiz game in the standigs, because of new sponsors.
Really sounds "great"0 - Posted on: Tue, 02/14/2017 - 12:25pm #1092262

Memphis MadnessParticipantI always thought that they should turn the D League into the ABA. You could have teams in Vegas, Seattle, Vancouver, keep a pro team in Oakland (when the Warriors move to SF), and get into some of the older Eastern towns…

RUDEBOY_Participantwe were watching nba tv today in the gym ,when they announced this..and 1 of my buddies said this might cause a conflict with gatorade’s relationship with high school players……

OhCanada-ParticipantI honestly thought this was going to be about guys like Stephen Jackson, Baron Davis, Delonte West etc. coming together to make a Summer League like Drew League.

holefillers1ParticipantAdding the two fulltime DLeauge roster spots is key to this whole thing. This is going to make second rd picks more valuable and first round picks will be gold.
