Yah I’m speechless here. I don’t have much to say. If you aren’t/didn’t watch it check the highlights. Oregon vs. UCLA. This kid is cold no nerve whatsoever.

I agree he was crazy clutch down the stretch against Oregon. That step back 3 he had to seal the game was filthy. He has probably solidified himself as a top 2 prospect in my book.

Lonzo Ball is the best point guard in this draft, I said this before the the season and continue to stick by this.. The kid is beyond his years as far as basketball IQ..

im biased so throw everything i say out the window, but LISTEN to me, tonights game was special. Forget the stats, ball floated the entire first half. Long stretches of this game i wondered how ball could be great if he is solimited in halfcourt sets when the game is slowed down. But all said and done…This was the most impressive ive seen him down the stretch, he said out my way and took over a close game late. 3 straight poissesions late where he went 1 v 1 and scored, 2 drives and 1 long step back three. He also rebounded everything and showed life on defense getting up tight on guys. He just stole the #1 spot from Fultz. And i have been saying for a couple weeks now that fultz is the#1 pick, but seeing ball outplay fultz heads up and then tonight taking over late like he did, i cant see how fults, who undoubetdly has all the skills but seems totally content floating around and shows zero passion could be ahead of ball right now.

Fultz just does more bro.  He has more of a midrange game and his shot is nicer.  His team is awful, so hard to get in rhythm vs a bad team.

Ball is a gamer.  If all he can do is drive and score and shoot the outside shot, there are limitations that Fultz doesn’t have.  He is a great passer and Ithink he has a natural knack to know which player needs his shot.  He also has stepped his game up against Kentucky and Fultz which is pretty impressive.

Its not a knock on Ball at all, but Fultz can flat out do more.  If you want heart with a limitation on talent then Ball is your guy.

It will come down to interviews with these two.  Boston apparently wants Ball.

But for Philly, I still think Fultz is the ideal fit.  Guy can score from outside, midrange, at the bucket, and is a good enough passer and ball hanlder to be an ideal fit off of Simmons.  I think Ball needs the ball more in his hands.  But you can’t go wrong with either.  Ball raises everyone’s game so would be fantastic in Philly.  Fultz gives you that scoring you need form your perimeter that Simmons could just rely on.

I’m going to trash your post but I wont neg you out of respect for your caveat.  A nice win against Oregon at home. But your initial criticisms are correct.  He is not a half court scoring point gaurd.  He is no doubt a top five pick in this draft but you are getting overly excited about Ball dominating a guy in one  on one who will be pulling cars for Enterprise next year.  I look at Ball and I see a long PG who will be a terror out on the break like John Wall. I see a cerebral passer who can orchestrate a half court offense.  He is way better on the break and in a fast passed game he can thrive. He is not going to score a lot out of half court because NBA teams will be able to throw their perimeter defenders at him.  When I look at a guy like Ball My main goal in scouting him is "how do I use his weaknesses to stop his game?"  He doesn’t have elite quickness so the first thing I would do is make him defend. This works with James Harden as it slows his ability to fast break.  Second thing I would do is chase him off the 3pt line.  He has a low arch on his shot. Crazy length of the NBA will get in the way of those mechanics.  Anyway force Ball to drive and he will look to pass.  This is why Fultz goes first. He gets his when he wants.

I never saw Wall hit a step back three like Ball did last night. This kid is special. If I have the number 1 pick I’m taking him all day. The way he rebounds and sees the floor is so impressive. People saying he can’t score in half court. I disagree the way he broke down his defender and finished with a pretty layup in the half court. Just wow. One of the better college basketball games I’ve seen.

My only criticism is his jumper is ugly but you can deny the results. Big rainbow swishes most the time.

You didn’t watch enough of John Wall then because I vividly remember him hitting a contested 3 up by 2 with less than 30 seconds left in the SEC championship. Not saying he was a great shooter by any means but he was just as clutch as Ball has been, if not more

I jus went back and watched that play and it is nothing like the three ball hit. Ball was in an iso situation and hit a cross over step back from beyond pro range like he was working out alone in the gym. Wall hit a contested kick out three.. two very different shots.

The one thing I worry about with Ball is his ability to create his own shot. One unbelievable step-back 30 footer doesn’t change that opinion. An extremely high percentage of his points are either off kick-out 3s or layups in transition.

It’s not a huge concern and we’re grasping at straws a tad because he’s a guarenteed top-3 pick but can he score in the halfcourt? I assume the ball will be in his hands a lot and he makes excellent decisions, but if teams take away his outlets and make his shoot, can/will he? I haven’t seen him do that. The game against USC especially stood out in that regard because he’d drive and would have an easy 8-12 foot middle of the lane jumper as USC stayed out on shooters or on the dump offs and he would still try to pass.

He’s 19 or whatever so I’m sure he can improve on that, but that’s the one thing in his game that I’m not in love with…at this moment. He’s something else though. Would love him for the Wolves. Think that "IT" thing is what that team needs in a bad way.

Ball isn’t well suited for Thibbs. Minnesota plays super slow and don’t shoot from the perimeter a lot. He’ll end up in Boston or LA.

Minnesota’s problem is that they have no bench. When they still had Lavine the team was barely 7-man deep. That and they need to start playing faster because that suits Ricky Rubio more.

I like Lonzo Ball to the Lakers.. Picture Magic Johnson working with Lonzo? Perfect Situation for Ball..

Minnesota plays slow—not super slow. And they don’t shoot well because they don’t have good shooters. Take away a horrible shooter in Rubio and put Ball in there and suddenly you don’t have as many terrible shooters.

    Seems fairly logical to me.

To me, Ball would be an excellent fit because if he doesn’t create quick offense with his passing, he could be best suited to play off the ball where his spot-up shooting could be an asset.

Don’t really care one way or another because Minny won’t win the lottery but a guy like Ball would be a fit anywhere.

bucket in that Oregon game by creating his own shot off the dribble. If Ball does not go to a team like Minnesota or Milwaukee or Phila – teams w/ established young super stars who will create space for him he is going to struggle

I don’t want to throw cold water on the Lonzo train b/c I really like the kid’s game but his lack of elite 1st step explosiveness will limit him in the NBA & I know this b/c as a Lkaers fan I am living this nightmare w/ D’Lo Russell & Ingram.

For regular mortals like us it’s impossible to understand the level of athleticism that just about every NBA starter possesses & if a guy does not have it he is at a disadvantage & right now Ball is benefitting from his superior intelligence to take advantage of lazy defense & poor fundamentals. We’re seeing Porzingus slow down now b/c guys are getting in his shirt & wearing him down. Look how terrible Okafor is at this level.

It’s just really tough to overcome when you don;t have that I’ll get my own shot whenever I want to that the elite guys have in their back pocket at all times

He didn’t create a single shot for himself off dribble? Yeah you must not have watched. He literally went one on one ISO multiple times down stretch, it was one of the best games for him showing that he could break ankles and beat guys off dribble in ISO situations. He had one play with about 5 minutes left where he literally dribbled down his opponent at the top of three point line then hit him with a hesitation crossover blowing by him all the way into the lane for the layup. I didn’t read rest of comment after that

Maybe he just didn’t see the last couple possessions of the game. Before that, Ball hadn’t done much/anything in those regards.

That might make sense if it wasn’t for balls very first basket of the game in the opening minutes being a one on one drive with a floater in the paint. He also had a defensive rebound and push coast to coast to coast for a layup. Two of his three pointers he made were shots off the dribble where he used a step back to get space. I went and youtubed balls highlights from game, 13 of his 15 points came off his own dribble creation. Now you can say he didn’t do much and I wouldn’t argue or say he struggles. Resting off dribble and I wouldn’t argue but to flat out say he didn’t create a single shot of his own when YouTube is right there makes me question your motives.
