 The fact that Westbrook isn’t starting is a joke.  The best two guards in the West this year are Westbrook and Harden. 

Also apparently Derozan and IT ended up tied but Derozen won the fan vote which gave him the tie breaker.  

 Embiid would be starting based on fan vote

I would like to see Embiid make the reserve team. I hope they turn the lights down low and let him and Rihanna slow dance at center court.  Then I want Embiid to shatter a backboard.  

I had Westbrook over Curry, Thomas over Kyrie, and Whiteside over Butler in my votes.

 Embiid should be starting. He has been putting phili on his back.

Can somebody please explain why Curry got in over Westbrook due to winning the fan vote, but Wade, Embiid & ZaZa didn’t??? 

 I know it’s nice to get the fans involved, but it’s just ridiculous. We’re seeing one of the single greatest seasons ever from Westbrook and he’s not starting in the all star game? If Kobe starting last year wasn’t enough for everyone, surely this has to be the last straw.

The move from total fan vote to 50% was a good start, but it’s still too much power in the fans hands. There’s no way Westbrook shouldn’t be starting and to be honest as good as Kyrie is, IT should be starting too.

Maybe give the fans 25% next year? And if that’s too much just keep shrinking it. I’m tired of seeing these snubs. Obviously those guys will still be on the team, and that’s what really matters at the end of the day, but until they get the entire thing right (starters included, especially for such a clear year as this one), I’m not going to be happy.

Russell should be starting. Wall and IT should both be starting. Fan voting is terrible; it made more sense before social media but with twitter there’s no way it can be anything but a joke, and now it seems that it’s more popular to jump on a bandwagon so you’ll get more likes and because it allows people to act superior to fans of other teams, so of course Kyrie and Steph are gonna win the fan voting. I’ve hated social media (specifically twitter) for a while now and this just reaffirms that hate lol

 IT & Russ 100% should be starting & Embiid should be starting too but reserve would be acceptable except the players voted him 8th!?!?!?

Who knew there were so many Player Haters in the NBA ranks? He’s got a team many believe was the Worst in NBA history last season – that is Exactly the same personel this year – 4 games out of a Playoff Spot!

I think at first I got on board b/c I really wanted to find out if the girl was really rhiana but when I started looking into his actual #’s & watched a few games I Stunned. He Dominated KAT & the Greek days apart & he is utterly Dominant at both ends. It kills me to compliment Anyone from Philadelphia but stats don’t lie. 

I’m actually pretty happy with the new system, the aforementioned players will still be all-stars, the all-star game is for fans, so taking the fans’ opinion seriously is understandable. 

With the fans having just 50% of the vote though, there’s almost no chances that a player undeserving of being an all-star will be voted in to start (like Allen Iverson was for e.g. or like Zaza might have been).

 Embiid not starting shows flaws in the system. He is already the best Center in the league, and I am not disrespecting any veteran. His impact is just stellar,carrying the 76ers team on his back, his per minute/per possession numbers are the best, and his defensive numbers are beyond ridiculous. Without him the sixers are an even worse team than last year’s or this year’s Brooklyn Nets when you look at the numbers, and his impact is such that they are becoming a decent team, that is going to end the season fighting for the 8th seed (too many Ls to overcome, particularly with Embiid missing lots of b2b to earn it though imo).

And he was voted in by the fans.

Jimmy Butler is good, very good, but not nearly as good as Embiid this season, and he is the 3rd SF among east starters. 

Should return to a system with a C in each team.

 The NBA All star game and the pro bowl have become a joke.  In the nfl a third of the pro bowlers are replaced by reserves because of super bowl and injuries.  NBA is a similar joke witht he fan vote.  At least these two leagues have an All NBA and All Pro team respectively.  These are lists that encompass the entire season and reward players for play not popularity.  This is what I look at when comparing great players and building a HOF resume.  

I cannot say I’m keen on the voting now being combined and the vote for the bench players being separate.

Personally I’d do voting for all spots – Public 40%, Players and Coaches combined 40% and experts/media 20%. That way a player could still possibly get in on public vote but you have the other groups there to reduce likelihood of the voting being swayed by a campaign to get a certain player in.

I look at both All NBA and All Star games for HOF likeliness as getting into either means you have to be within top 30 players in the NBA that year. The real franchise guys are those who are all NBA first or 2nd team for a number of years regardless of whether they get an AS start or not.

I believe that Westbrook deserved to start but Curry is double MVP and has been vote leader for last 2 years, is playing as well this year as he was in 2015/16 so was always likely to be voted in.

I did wonder if there might have been a KD backlash for him going to GSW and Westbrook thus picking up even more votes.

Another option could be the 5 top vote winners start regardless of position, you might have a freak starting line up position wise one year but the coaches could easily sub guys in after a minute.

The real travesty in the East is that Lowry got snubbed; not Isaiah. They picked the wrong Raptor.
