TiosecoParticipantJust wanted to ask which players you guys feel have been under the radar disappointments so far this season, meaning they could still actually be playing well or posting good numbers, but just not at the level you (or the general public) expected yet isn’t being maligned as some.
I will admit that I wrote this post with KAT in mind. Yes he is putting up 22-11, but he isn’t exactly the world-beater everyone projected him to be. His efficiency has gone down, his defense has regressed, and when i listen to his interviews, particularly in their losses, he just comes off as trying too hard to be the "alpha male" on the team (don’t know how else to explain it). There are also numerous metrics that show how the wolves have actually been better when he sits down as compared to when he is on the court.
Another one I have in mind is Steph Curry. Although his numbers are still very good for almost any other player in this league, I guess it is not hard to say that he has disappointed so far this season. I understand that it must be difficult incorporating another superstar in their already star-studded roster, but when you are the reigning back-to-back MVP and was in serious discussion as the best player in the world, it is expected that the team is still "yours" and your performance shouldn’t be affected as much, especially since both he and Durant’s games have always been tabbed as "seamless" fits that don’t necessarilly require too much ball-handling. His shooting is down, his defense is down, and even the remarkableness of his makes are down.
To be clear, I am not hating on these players, just pointing out why/how they are low-key disappointments so far this season. In fact, I am big fans of both and am really wishing that they turn it around soon for their respective teams.

BallerScriptParticipantI will agree with Steph Curry. Here in New Zealand most of the games available on t.v last year were either Thunder or Warriors games so I watched quite a bit of Curry and he was so exciting to watch. He is still exciting this year but he isn’t as amazing as he was previously. I don’t know if that is because now Durant is overshadowing him, he has regressed or if Kyrie Irving and Cleveland have hurt his golden boy reputation.
Another player I am dissapointed in is Andre Drummond. I was expecting him to have a big 20-20 per game start to the year but instead he is putting up 13.9ppg and 13.6 rpg on a losing Detroit team. Though his free throw percentage has risen to 45%.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantAndrew Wiggins has been low key for me.. was touted as a great two way player coming out of Kansas and hasn’t been a plus defender at this point. Scares me that he’ll end up as a Carmelo/Demarr Derozan type, a great scorer but not really much else. Doesn’t rebound well for a guy with his measurables and athleticism and isnt a playmaker at this point either. Was hoping he’d take a step forward in a category other than scoring this year.

I honestly hate checking their box score and seeing Wiggins get 2 rebounds and 1 assist when he’s so crazy athletic. I don’t know if it’s cause he likes to leak out or what, but he should be able to grab 5-6 boards in his sleep

festar35ParticipantHis numbers a good, but he has been the most disappointing player in the league for me this year for the most part due to his demeanor and lack of leadership ability.
It won’t happen, but I really wouldn’t mind seeing him move if the Pacers haven’t made a run by the time the trade deadline approaches and see Indiana going young with Turner as focal point.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantDue to injuries and other factors, Derrick favors has definitely taken a step back this year. His role had regressed with the emergence of gobert and increased frontcourt depth and I’m not exactly sure where he fits with Utah’s long-term plans anymore.
A lot of people viewed Kris Dunn as the most NBA ready prospect on the board in last year’s draft, so you could say it’s kind of disappointing that he hasn’t looked NBA ready at all thus far.

Andrew1984ParticipantD’Angelo Russell and Devin Booker, two of my favorite players, have been sloppy, inconsistent, and inefficient. Especially after some explosive performances at the end of the year last year. With the exception of a few nice outings here and there, neither have shot the ball anywhere near as well as they are capable of shooting it.

Magic JordanParticipantI also have to go with D’Angelo Russell. I expected him to do more this year but he isn’t. Couple that with him requiring a prp injection at such a young age and it’s a bit worrisome.
Lakers for some reason seem hell bent on forcing him to become a PG which is not doing him any favors offensively or defensively. He has great vision but his best skill is undeniably putting the ball in the basket, however nobody on the staff seems to care.
He needs to be paired with a Patrick Beverly type. Until then we won’t see him at his best.

For a guy who was supposed to put this celtics team into eastern conference consideration he’s playing timid and too happy to hang outside the 3 point line. The celts have got very little else in the bigs department and need him to toughen up. He got 1 board today in over 30 minutes against Cleveland…. seriously 1 board

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantLow Key Disappointment: Andrew Wiggins, yeah he’s averaging almost 22 points per game but he doesn’t do the little things that win games, despite his rep he’s a very average defender and isn’t much of a rebounder, passer or shooting specialist. I was expecting big things from the T-Wolves this year with Thibs coaching and Wiggins/Towns and Lavine being handed the keys to the city, but they’re still one of the worst teams in the league.
low key impressive: Hassan Whiteside, after a career year and a big contract in the off-season I expected him to plateau or even regress a bit, instead he’s stepped up for a Miami team that has needed him to. 17.5 PPG, 14.5 PPG, 2.3 BPG, on 55 FG%

West Conf – Lou WilliamsLou Williams has always been good but he is really excelling with the Lakers this season. Otto Porter Jr. had a rough start finding confidence in the league, but this season he has really shown he is worth a big contract for the future.

Trade PG? No way… He’s had to adjust to new teammates (a different style of point guard), a new coach & is trying to find the right balance between playing within the flow & taking over. Allow him more time to grow as a leader.
Since GR3 was inserted into the starting lineup & Seraphin was put into the rotation, the Pacers are playing MUCH better. PG is averaging 30 over his last 4 games…

Dale WorthingtonParticipantNot sure why people are bringing up Horford. He’s not a sexy rebounder but his defense has been elite and he’s an incredible fascilitator out of the 4/5. I’ve been very happy with Horford.
