BasterdInABasketParticipantAs a Bucks fan who’s watched a ton of their games this year, I can’t get over how great Giannis has been this year and the player he’s developing into. He’s such a tenacious player, always attacking and making plays on both ends for himself and others. Obviously he’s not a natural shooter and is streaky at best from 3 but he’s been such a hard worker you have to think he’ll develop into a consistent shooter.
My question is who in the league would you take ahead of him if you were starting a franchise? Considering all things, age and injury? KAT, Davis, Russ, KD, Steph, etc? I might be a little biased having watched so much of him and not as much of others but what do you think?

Flameres15ParticipantIf I’m starting a franchise, I’m going to take players 24 years of age or younger. Personally I’d take Anthony Davis and Karl-Anthony Towns Jr. before Giannis Antetokounmpo. That’s it. They’re all trancendent talents, but big men are the life of the NBA. Davis is the best defender of the bunch, and has the most experience. Towns is the best midrange shooter in the NBA, and is the most skilled player I’ve ever seen. Emphasis on SKILLED. Antetokounmpo, though is the most versatile player in the NBA. Also, I’ve been a fan of Giannis since the year before he was drafted.
Others to be considered are Kyrie Irving, Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Joel Embiid, and Andre Drummond.

SubZeroParticipantIf any GM was posed with that question and they even considered Kyrie with those guys, they should be fired

Anton123ParticipantConsidering Kyrie Irving to be as good a player going forward as Jabari Parker and Joel Embiid should get you fired?
That’s a ridiculous statement. Kyrie is a three time all star, he is having a much better season than Stephen Curry was having at the same age. Joel Embiid hasn’t even proven he can ever play back-to-back games yet.

Flameres15ParticipantKyrie is better than Embiid and Parker, but that’s an unfair comparison, as the last two have dealt with injuries. Parker benefits from opponents guarding Giannis, but he also takes shots away from Parker. Embiid has missed two years of experience, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t the face of the 76ers franchise. Joel is a 7’2" center who does almost everything. Despite only playing 24 minutes a game, Embiid averages 17.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 2.5 blocks, and 1.2 three pointers per game. When Embiid gets a real point guard to feed him the ball, and when he is off minute restriction, then we will see his true potential.

SubZeroParticipantIt was hyperbole, obviously I didn’t mean anyone should actually get fired if that was the case. I’m just pointing out that if someone asked you the question of who you would start a franchise with out of everyone under 24, and you had KAT, AD, and Giannis available, no one besides crazy Cavs fans would go “hmm, but what about Kyrie?” I didn’t say anything about him not being a really good player

Flameres15ParticipantKyrie does have something none of the other guys have: A championship. As well, Irving is a three time All-Star. While Irving wasn’t able to win until LeBron joined the team, Kyrie does have more playoff experience than Giannis, Karl, and Anthony combined. Anyways, the list was more like an honorable mention. I wanted to include other good players 24 and under.

SubZeroParticipantFair enough, I didn’t mean Kyrie wasn’t a really good player. I just meant if I had the choice of Towns, AD, Giannis, Wiggins, and Embiid to start my team, I wouldn’t even consider Kyrie. And yes, I am one of the people that thinks he’s slightly overrated now, I’m not so biased as to act like he’s not one of the league’s best scorers

HitsterParticipantGiannis would be very near the top of my list for who to build a franchise around, AD would be top 3 too. I’d put Leonard on that list too. Statistically DMC needs to be considered but is he the same quality of temperament as the other guys.
Of the slightly older guys, I’d have Steph Curry MVP very high on my list as he hasn’t so many miles on the clock and had to carry a team like a few of his peers. Plus his crazy shooting ability is likely to enable him to be at his peak for longer than guys who rely on their athletic ability more.
But back to Giannis, the guy is just scary when you think he is still learning as a PG and developing his 3 point range, with his size he’ll always have the ability to get a free shot off against most match ups. Plus with Jason Kidd teaching him the tricks of the PG role then that part of his game will improve too.

Edgecat20ParticipantGiannis is unbelievable. It would be a shame if he does not start in the all star game. Kawhi should be in the convo too.

OhCanada-ParticipantYou see he’s trying to become comfortable taking that three pointer even know he is not necessarily confident shooting it as of now. When he gets that down my god he will be a nightmare for the Eastern conference. Should be a dark horse MVP candidate for the majority of his career.
