Another battle for the future after Philly got spanked by Minnesota.

Timberwolves?  Whats up with them?  In the lottery got Towns and Wiggins, and the Lakers are outplaying them.  I think Thibs is a whipper, and if I played on that team i’d get annoyed by his whipping style.  I woudln’t want him on my back barking through the defense.  Its effective, but it also wears on you.  You’d just think with all that talent, and the way they handled Philly, that tehy could have more than 6 wins.  Are they tanking?  They have far more of a complete team, Dunn Rubio Lavine Wiggins Dieng and Towns is not a bad 6 to start with, I just don’t understand why it doesn’t mesh.

Lakers — falling back to earth as predicted.  Again more of a complete team with Randle Clarkson Russell and Ingram (1,2,3,4) and veterans.  But, I think it goes to show how this is a Man’s League and if you want to tank and build from nothing, everyone from fans to organization to players better have a lot of patience.  7 years before players reach their prime, like Jordan.  Thats a lot of time we have to wait for Ingram and Russell and the Timberwolves above and the Sixers to finally make their impacts in the league.

Sixers — I guess we will see where we stand but we are by far the most incomplete team of the three.  Our backcourt is atrocious, without anyone to make plays.  McConnell and Sergio both dribble way too much and do not have the command and respect of the bigs to put them in the right spots.  Embiid to me is the smartest player on the floor and the guards cannot get him the ball in the right spot.  We have Embiid on the perimeter when he has Patterson from Toronto on him.  Jah needs to clear out once they recognize the Embiid mismatch and let Embiid set up and go to work in the paint and abuse the smaller guy, not have the coach complain about how tough a matchup it is for Embiid when Patterson is in the game.  I really hope we get to see Embiid and Noel play together tonight.  Embiid with the knee bruise sorry he has to play, they’ve done enough babying of these players.  the Coach hasn’t yet set up a system.  He wants to run a ball movement type offense when he hasn’t yet established his bigs.  Let Embiid establish himself as a superstar, then draft some guards who will actually play with him, then let the guards develop and learn how to play around Embiid.  Also, Jah has to go.

Of all the bigs, Jahlil has to go.  I like trading Jahlil Okafor to Portland for Al Faruq Aminu and Jake Layman and a pick.  I don’t want Crabbe who is too inconsistent.  I’d take McCollum straight up but I doubt they’ll do that.

Jah is just too costly on defense for us, and he can help Lillard in half court sets to get a timely bucket as a second scoring option so that Lillard doesn’t have to hit so many forced shots.

I like Jah’s offense, but he HAS to be the odd man out, he gievs you no rebounding.  Noel is one or two years closer to reaching his prime.

Pretty much agree with everything about the Sixers.  Dario and Erson are better bigs for this team.  I don’t like this line-up experiment without Simmons.  As you said, none of our guards can get the ball to Joel in good spots.  Okafor is just clogging up the lane.  Sixers are at their best when Embiid posts up on the block and can kick it back out to a shooter if doubled.  I see him and Henderson do this well.  Nice little two man game.

I don’t like the Okafor pairing and don’t like seeing Embiid on the permiter all the time….and it hurts the interior D with him check a 4 who steps out leaving Jahlil in the lane and he isn’t a shot blocker.  Maybe Noel will pair better…..maybe they both need to go.  Ilyasova is probably the best pairing as he spaces the floor, hits tough shots and probably rebounds better than either of the other two

well when the best shooter ,out of the 6 players you named, is the center, there isn’t really a way they can compliment each other. I don’t like Dunn as much as I’ve seen people posting about him as I think he and Lavigne do almost the same stuff except Lavine is more athletic and Dunn the better IQ. I think they need to trade Rubio to the highest bidder to cash in while they can, preferably a small forward who can shoot the 3 as I like Wiggins at the 2 for longer periods at the time for a bigger defense. Maybe take a swing at Rudy gay for Rubio and finally. Ring in someone who is starting caliber in the league.

The 76ers are finally giving Okafor and Embiid a run together as starters, we have to see how that plays out for a bit especially when Simmons is fit and they can see how all the picks work together. Saric looks the ideal first big off the bench but we have had Noel moaning about only getting 8 minutes last night so something will have to give.

Erson is of course the wildcard and has played some nice basketball this season but is an unrestricted FA next summer. He could take a payday elsewhere or maybe take less to go to a contender. Philly may well want to keep him if they think he is the best guy alongside Embiid and he gives the team experience.

I think it will come down to one of Noel or Okafor going but Philly may well want to decidev what to do with Erson first for if they trade Noel or Oak and Erson going via FA then the frontcourt depth is suddenly two down. Noel will be an RFA so that needs to be considered too, also is paying Erson a better idea than paying Noel.

Philly could flip Erson near deadline day, a contender would probably happily give up a late first rounder to add depth and experience for a play off run even if it is for one season only.

The other option Philly have is with their cap space, they could offer Erson a nice deal now and get him tied down but it then shows other guys are on the block and their trade value might fall.

At T-Wolves, Rubio for Gay looks a fair trade idea, DMC gets a proven PG to create for him and T-Wolves get a solid 18ppg career scorer who gives them options at the forward positions. It would be interesting to see who Thibs used as PG either Dunn or Lavine if Rubio was moved.

I think Denver might surface as a destination for one of the Philly bigs. They have Harris back but have Murray who is no doubt going to be their 2 going forward. I think you could play either Noel or Okafor next to Jokic. I think the move would be for Philly to go after Harris, I’d personally ask for Chandler too for something like Okafor and a pick.

    Nugs – 1 Mudiay/Nelson 2 Murray/Beasley 3 Gallinari/Barton 4 Jokic/Faried 5 Okafor/Nurkic

    Sixers – 1 Simmons/Rodriguez 2 Harris/Henderson 3 Chandler/Covington 4 Ilyasova/Saric 5 Embiid/Noel

Denver have a fairly decent big man rotation with KIC Twins and Faried so they would not seem an obvious destination for Okafor or Noel IMO but Chandler would seem a decent fit for Philly so a plus 1 from me.
