So… there was a signing this summer for the Jazz that no one really seemed to notice. But it’s looking like it might be the steal of the summer. Joe Johnson, 2 years for 22 million dollars. That’s a lot cheaper than the 4 year 64 million Mozgov got. Anyways, with both Hayward and Favors out last night against the Blazers, Joe Johnson looked like his old dominant self.

At times, he honestly looked unstoppable, especially in the fourth, he hit a couple of key jumpers including a 3 in the final quarter and was able to bang down low with the Blazers bigs.

The Jazz still lost but man, JJ kept them in the game.

His final statline was 29 points on an extremely efficient 16 shots. He was 12 for 16 and 3 for 4 on threes. 2 for 2 from the line.

The Jazz really won that deal big time.

Clippers could have signed him, shored up their hole at the 3 spot… But Doc being the laughable GM that he is signed his son for 35 million for 3 years!!! Crazy. Luc Mbah a Moute, as decent a player as he is, has no business being a starter in this league.

Actually I don’t think they had the cap space to give Johnson the deal he got from Utah.  I think they were able to give Austin Rivers his contract because they owned his rights and could go over the cap to sign him.

Let’s not get carried away here.  For every good game Joe Johnson has he will have 2 duds.

At his age and considering he’ll be coming off the bench for them when Hayward comes back, 1 good game for every 2 duds is more than worth it.

^ that. When Hayward comes back and he goes to the bench, the 2 duds most likely won’t lose them any games, but the 1 good game could win them a game.
