valentineHas he become expendable? He’s averaging less than ten points per game in the preseason, and he’s making eight figures. Stephen Curry will get a new deal soon, and so will Kevin Durant. Also, getting rid of him would allow them to increase their depth.

ZouldiersParticipantIts preseason man. calm down, he’ll be fine plus his contribution is more on defense so yeah he’ll be ok. Plus, they need him for that death squad lineup so yeah nope.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantDraymond greens game 7 stats were 32-15-9. I think Draymond is a douche as much as the next guy. But he is the heart of that team. Just growing pains.
I do believe someone will have to go when Steph cashes in.

Snatalini247ParticipantHave you seen Dennis Rodman’s stats? I’m sure he was very expendable for the Bulls too. Honestly Draymond might only average 8/8/4 this season with all the scorers on the team he will most likely be the 4th offensive option, however, his ability to defend and switch on to any player make him very valuable to the Warriors. Also the "Death Lineup" does not exist with out him because of that ability to switch on guards out of the pick and roll, therefore well worth his contract.

Jr. ROXASParticipantI would take Draymond Green over whoever "depth" you are talking about.

treytalkssports.comParticipantHe is not expendable, but he is not going to be happy either.
Durant is now going to run the point forward role on offense. Draymond will rarely get the ball. There are few players who are better than Green at playing point forward, but Durant is one of them. He will have no triple doubles this year and his assists total will drop significantly.
He will still get clean up buckets, but I expect his shooting percentages to go down too. He has always been the type of shooter who needed shots to get comfortable and in rhythm. Fewer shots, even if they are good looks, will mean his percentages will drop. I predict his three point percentage will drop below 30% this year, and his free throws will go down too.
Still the best defender in the NBA. Still a great rebounder. But as his shooting goes down, I think he will be frustrated.

StephGoneStephParticipantMaybe we’re using different terminology, but by my watch, Draymond Green didn’t play a single minute of point forward last year. Yes he gets alot of assists and is a great facilitator, but those are mostly off pick and roll when both defenders doubled Curry and left him with a free lane to the basket. The high pick and roll with draymond and curry was our best play by far last year, and I don’t see it being eliminated from the playbook.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI think he is actually more important now than ever for Golden State. I think they will go small even more this season out of necessity and green’s ability to play center is really what makes their small-ball positionless lineup work. His offensive stats will most likely decrease (and he might not be happy about it) but he will be more valuable than ever on the defensive end.

markfitz14ParticipantGreen is now realizing that he will be the main one to give up the amount of shots per game. Curry and Thompson are still shooting the same amount and Durant took his shots. Eventually Thompson and Curry will have to give up some shots Greens way. If Green is only shooting 4 attempts a game that would just be bull for him.

StephGoneStephParticipantGreen is totally comfortable being a distributor and not a scorer. If anything, Kerr had to encourage Green to be more selfish last year- Green admitted himself he was chasing assists rather than looking for his own shots. I dont’ think he’ll have any problems taking less shots a game this year.

HitsterParticipantI always wondered if Draymond has a point forward as such with such lights out shooters around him, he was almost the last guy who handled the ball rather than a creative point forward type player. He has been a key part of GSW’s team so I don’t see him going anywhere soon.
As regards contracts, they will have KD as a 10 year veteran next summer, Steph Curry MVP will be due a huge deal and Iggy will be out of contract too. Iggy will be 33 next year and so may not be due such a big deal but with the salary rises, he may well want something similar to his current deal.
As regards Steph and KD, a lot will depend how well they perform this year. If Curry outplays KD then GSW may ask KD to take a bit less to give Curry max deal especially as KD has had much bigger deals than Curry before but if KD outplays Curry then KD can rightly demand the biggest deal he can get. I’m sure if the team regains the title then a compromise could be reached as both guys make mega money from outside sources too.

MatosParticipantIf anything, the double teams Durant, Steph, and Klay get on the perimeter during the actual season will free up Draymond. I see him still getting around 15 a game, give or take a few points. He’s naturally aggressive and has heart. I may not like his attitude, but I can’t deny that point.
