OhCanada-ParticipantSo without being repetitive and mentioning the same guys over and over again (Wiggins, Barnes, Kanter, Parker etc.) heres a list of under the radar players I could see having a breakout year that may not be getting too much hype.
Spencer Dinwiddie-Bulls
His career got off to a slow start with injury issues in Detroit but he looks like he could settle into the backup PG role in Chicago. 6’6 good athletisism and body control and a decent midrange game he could be a good future if he stays healthy. He really needs to imporove his outside shooting and free throw shooting which both have been terrible. Has similar tendacies as Demar Derozan but similar skills and body type to Shaun Livingston.
Kelly Oubre-Wizards
At first glance it may seem like there is going to be no minutes available for Oubre but then when you consider Beal is always injured he should get an opportunity sometime this season to prove himself. Kansas and Washington have been very patient with his progression which is great. Slowly one of the most talented 20 yr olds in basketball has been developing his game without pressure and unreasonable expectations. Brooks should really help him take the next step.
Justin Anderson-Mavs
He might now get the same attention as Winslow or Johnson but the Mavs love this kid and see him as a part of thier future. He may not average 15-ppg or score 50 in a night but he is a great athlete and strong wing that has a developing two way game.
Ryan Kelly-Im not sure he has even made the Hawks roster yet but he seems like a great fit. As a backup PF he will be competing with Mike Muscala (another guy who I like) and Kyle Humphries but I just think the fit next to Howard and Tavares is spot on and he has played well with the team.
TJ Warren-Suns
Phoenix has done well to bring in two stretch PF’s that should compliment Warrens game and allow Warren to play inside. If they let him loose at the SF position expect big productivity. Warren has a super crafty game and unorthodox way of filling it up but the one thing Ive always loved about him is his scorers mentality on the court.Dion Waiters/Derrick Williams-Heat
Miami just lost Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Luol Deng, Joe Johnson, and Gerald Green. They dont need a few guys to step they need a whole new offense. Winslow and Richardson are thought to have breakout years but with Richardson ibjured it leaves alot of pressure on Goran Dragic. Seems as though both Waiters and Williams have opportunities to get a chance at a prominent NBA role. Both players were good last year as reserves.
Clint Capela-Rockets
He has officially been penciled in as the starting C and people in Houston think he has Allstar potential. Dantoni rides his starters and stats come aplenty to those playing in his system so grab Capela in your fantasy league. Fantasy aside Capela is more of a reality llayer that plays the game the right way and really earned this starting role.

OhCanada-ParticipantNice list. Lyles is a guy I forgot he should be very good for Utah this year.

Jaymes BrownParticipantTarik Black, Lakers. Might earn starting center job over Mozgov, before Zubac takes over.
Larry Nance Jr, Lakers. Get ready for Nance to enter starting lineup, along with 1-2 other guys
Anthony Brown, Lakers. Get ready for Brown to emerge as a top reserve for Lakers
Jerami Grant, Richaun Holmes, 76ers. Both are poised to blossom without Ben Simmons in the way.
Jusuf Nurkic, Nuggets. Promising rookie turned forgetable sophomore poised to break out as a post scorer.
Kelly Olynyk, Celtics. Shoulder was in a sling all summer, but he was able to train his lower body. Expect a more explosive Olynyk in his big contract year, and see you at the 3 point contest in February.
Terry Rozier, Celtics. Getting better every game, athletically dominant combo-guard will settle in and start filling it up in bunches.

Magic JordanParticipantIn a world where the Lakers were ready to compete and potentially in a playoff race (they aren’t) I am with you in thinking Nance would be starting ahead of Randle. He just makes winning plays. But the Lakers aren’t in that spot yet so I imagine Randle starts and gets the bulk of the minutes though I would love it if they shared the court together more this year. I think Randle has more upside and untapped potential. For now I think that is something the Lakers care more about.
Randle is a few years younger than Nance so naturally a few years behind on learning the minor details of the game.

ChewyParticipantI watched every Bulls summer league game. Spencer got eaten up every game. I’d rather see Valentine take a shot at back up PG before him.

DolanCareParticipantKentavious Caldwell Pope- Hardly a diamond in the rough with SVG heaping praise on the lad. But still, I think he’s set for a big season. His shooting and defensive ability means many minutes for KCP which means more scoring opportunities.

ChoppyParticipantHis shooting is his major weakness. If he can improve that he will be one of the better two guards in the league.

Lebron’s HairlineParticipantWhere’s my man Christian Wood? Dude has shown a ton of scoring potential during the summer league and preseason

OhCanada-ParticipantWood grts talked about alot on this forum. For the average fan hes still a mystery but most people on this forum know he is a great talent. I think he ouf performs Kaminsky and has a good season for Charlotte.

piratejpParticipantDon’t agree with all your picks, but really love this post! Great follow-up comments as well (mostly).
100% agree on the TJ Warren comment. He’s got an interesting game and a serious nose for the rim. Also agree Capella is probably going to turn some heads. Portis steps up this year, and good call on Wood as well.
I also like Hollis-Jefferson & Elfrid Payton to both take big steps forward this year, and as much as it pains me to say it, because I’ve never been a fan, I think Austin Rivers might have a surprisingly effective season when it’s all said and done.

OhCanada-ParticipantRHJ is one of my favourite players. Can impact a game playing 35 minutes and only scoring 5 points like a younger Draymond Green or Kawhi Leonard. If Im the Nets I do everything in my power to give him minutes to develop.
Rivers is a decent two way player. Should be in the league a while but people were expecting him to be a superstar instead of a Corey Joseph type role. He gets no credit for continuing to work to improve so he can fit his role and be a good team player.
Terrence Jones is also on ny watch list. He has a very versatile game and has skills that can impact the game on both ends of the court. Gentry is a good coach and has been confident in Jones so far. Although he seems to be injury prone and with all the issues this team has had with injuries they may not be confident handing him a defined role. Will likely be the backup PF.

r377ParticipantBoban and possibly Ish Smith if RJax starts missing games…
