Ive been casting my eye over these Rookies like a lot of you.

And right now, the Rookie of the Year race is wide open because no one is staking their claim for favourtism.

Ben Simmons is possibly out for the season, which makes him the early favourite for the 2017 ROY award.

Dario Saric is probably the best Rookie, but he was already drafted.

    Enter Thon Maker.

Returns from a small wrist injury tomorrow and has silenced doubters with his ability to add weight.

I predict he will play somewhere between 22 and 26 minutes per night.

I also think hes the closest thing to KG since the original, and will form a trio with Parker and Freak whereby each compliments the others strengths and weaknesses.

He is also the most athletic big man in the game. Lets see DeAndre Jordan run rim-to-rim like Thon Maker does for 40 mins.

Thon Maker made a lot of people look bad on this forum. Its not too late to admit you were wrong.

The most likely to win R.O.Y will be between  4 people

Kriss Dunn,Buddy Hield, One of the Suns Rookies(maybe Marques Kriss) and Ingram

The reason I say the above players Dunn is the most NBA ready for right now outside of Simmons. Meaning he should be able to keep himself on the court to put some solid stats up.

Hield,Marquis Kriss(if he starts),Ingram will all get minutes..Which means  potential for more stats..

The rest of this class are unfortunately in a not so forgiving situations:

Thon -Jason Kidds rotations mean Thon may struggle for minutes initially my guess is 10-15 per game.

Jaylen brown may not see that much of the court- maybe 10-20 minutes a game

Bender may be to raw and lose minutes to Kriss. So maybe 10-20 per

Jamal Murray is a victim of too many guards in Denver. maybe 10-15 minutes per game

But Long term wise for this draft class the players with potential to be solid starters/something more.

Brandon Ingram he has the potential to be All star great but is still a couple of years from that level yet.

Dunn may be a victim of earn your minutes but has John Wall type potential once he gets on the court..

Thon could surprise some people and be a solid starter

Jaylen Brown and Buddy hield will be either Boom or Bust..

Simmons it all depends on his scoring and that Jump shot to what he can do longterm: If the jumper never comes and he doesn’t score much he essentially becomes a taller version of rondo vs the Lebron Ceiling that people believe he has if he scores a reasonable amount and has a servicable jumper..

He has hit the 3, and shows real good playmaking and passing. He gets in the lane easy. His defense has been very good. Lots of deflection and steals. He is no boom or bust. He will play. He actually has exceptional footwork wich officials have blown some travels that were questionable but he is good. Clearly can cause problems already. He will struggle at times like they all will but I see his minutes climbing after the 1st 15 games.

Buddy Hield could see as many minutes as any of the guys from the 2016 draft class in his rookie year, so may be best option for ROY if you want someone from that class.

Saric would be worth a flutter for ROY if Simmons is out longer.

If he stays healthy and plays 20-25 minutes a game, you can’t discount Joel Embiid.

Why wouldn’t Saric be eligible? A rookie is defined by when they first play, not by when they are drafted. Griffin won ROY after sitting out his first year.

My money is on Dunn, for the record.

I think he means, not eligible to be the saviour of the 2016 draft class, not for ROY

Heres my top 5 for Rookie of the year.  Didnt add Simmons. Brown should have his moments but I doubt his role will be big enough to win the award.  Chriss I see struggling although showing promise and performing better than Bender. I also think the Hernangomez brothers will both play well,  Mccaw if given minutes,  Bembry and Prince both look good in ATL,  and Siakam looks food in Toronto.

    1-Buddy Hield

Fits in perfectly in New Orleans and they really have noone else on the perimeter. I think ge will acerage around 16-ppg,  4-rpg, 2-apg.

    2-Dario Saric

I remember people on this site saying he would never come over.  I think he maybe the biggest robbery in the Hinkie term.  Late lotto for this guy.  Hes a baller and should comoete for ROY. 13-ppg, 7-rpg, 2-apg.

    3-Kris Dunn

Im not sure how he is going to earn his minutes with Rubio and Lavine currently ahead of him but he is just too good not to have this high.  I think he is the best player of the three now and longterm and could end up beinf the best player of the 2016 draft.

    4-Jamaal Murray

Im starting to cool down on his game a bit.  The lack of explosion and quickness was evident in summer league and preseason.  He still is a very smart player,  crafty with his space and creating shots so he should perform well.  I do see him strufgling a bit but in the end putting up a decent rookie campaign.

    5-Joel Embiid

Lets not forget this guys a rookie. Supertalented rookie but be patient with him now that he is on the court.  I love the fact that he isnt forcing things.  With the logjam at C in Philly I cant have him any higher.

Embiid worries me to be honest.  Maybe its because of the countless bigs that never truly  recovered.  He sort of runs awkwardly and doesnt have good balance/body control.  His talent is outrageous but he is still learning how to use his talent and his body. I really hope he has a long and healthy career.

1 Saric. Poor man’s Larry Bird. Oldest and most NBA ready. He didn’t come over to survive, he came over to dominate.

2 Jaylen Brown. Ideal environment to develop defense and intensity, and the ideal coach to bring out his best offensively, including the 35% he’ll shoot from 3 this year. He’s already the Celtics’ 6th man, but he could very well start at SF or PF with Crowder playing the other spot.

3 Kris Dunn. Everybody thinks LaVine will start over Dunn, but Dunn’s defense is infinitely better, and his offense is poor man’s DWade if he’s not saddled with PG duties full time.

4 Buddy Hield. His +/- might be below average even on his lowly team, indicating crap defense, but Hield can simply fill it up and will put up the most impressive scoring numbers this year. Voters, getting smarter every year, will make note of his lack of overall impact on the game though.

5 Tie Thon Maker and Embiid. Both are great two way talents, Thon at PF and some SF, and Embiid strictly at center. Embiid will thrive in the post with Saric stretching the floor and keeping double teams away from Embiid. Maker will thrive as a top 5 All NBA Transition player on both offense and defense, and by getting lots of clean up baskets and 3 pointers.

7 Tie Jamal Murray and DeAndre Bembry. Bembry looks like he’ll get the minutes and points that I assumed would go to Taurean Prince. Murray simply fills it up in those quiet 2nd quarter and early 4th quarter minutes when the game loses a bit of intensity and open shots abound. CJ McCollum Jr. Might be better than Mudiay by the end of the year.

Dunn, and couple other rookies, are older than Saric.

I think Buddy is in a perfect spot for ROY. He should get minutes and be NBA ready, I like his game it fits the modern NBA perfectly. I’m a Twolves fan and can’t help but wonder if we should have taken Buddy, not that Dunn won’t be damn good it’s just that it would be great to have a 3 point killer on the team. And I wonder how good Thon Maker would look next to KAT in a couple years. I guess Time will tell.

I would like to say Dunn but I’m going with Buddy
