Word is coming out that Kevin "KG" "Big Ticket" Garnett is retiring.  I still remember that draft night when he was called out and I was so nervous about who they passed up to get this kid out of high school. This was before it was cool to go straight from high school to the NBA and wow was I wrong to worry because he is one of my all time favorites.  His energy was contagious and I loved how he would always block a shot after the whistle had stopped the game because he didn’t want anyone to hit a shot.  He was as competitive as they come and to see KG, Kobe and Duncan all walk away together will make one heck of a Hall of Fame class.  Enjoy retirement KG!

That’s going to be one heck of a HOF class.  Kobe, KG, and Duncan are the players I remember most from my childhood.  Each were dominant in their own ways.

Will we ever see a player with as much fire as KG? I think not. Fare thee well, Big Ticket.

His intensity was like nothing I’ve ever seen in the NBA.  He’s been my favorite player since I was little and I’m going to miss watching him play.

KG revolutionized the game. Changed the prototype for the pf position. Think about the typical pf in the NBA before Garnett and think about after. He was maybe the most versatile defender ever and could literally defend five positions if need be in his prime. Aside from 3 point shooting, there was really nothing he didn’t do exceptionally well on the court. For the 2004 season he averaged 24.2 ppg, 13.9 rpg, 5 apg, 1.5 stl and 2.2 bpg. Who else in the modern era has put up numbers like that?

The fact that he played his best years on a Minnesota team that was never really in contention will keep him from being mentioned in the same breath as Duncan and Bryant (the 2 preeminent players of his generation) although Garnett was arguably as good as either. He was extremely unselfish in Boston, and sacrificed his numbers probably more than any player on that team.

Glad to see him calling it quits as it was definitely time and he really had no reason to keep playing. He probably should have retired a few years earlier after his last season in Boston. He got talked into coming to Brooklyn, which turned out to be a disaster. I don’t think he would’ve played last year in Minnesota if he knew Saunders wouldn’t be there. At least he went out with the team where it all started.

Great player at his peak which last for a large part of his career. I wonder if he might have a retirement game and make a ceremonial appearance either pre-season or opening night.

As he had a two year deal and so did Tim Duncan, I wonder if they will still be paid their salary or if there is some sort of mutually agreed clause in the deals.

KG was a player who could do it all, scoring, rebounding, blocking before you added the intangibles that his will to win brought. Also he was good enough to average 6apg one year which for a legit front courter was amazing.

I would love to see him "play" 1 more year. I remember having the SI issue with him on the cover before the Wolves drafted him, I can’t believe that was 20 years ago (damn I’m old). If he does retire I’m hoping he stays with the Wolves organization in the office, coach, or part owner. He will go down as a top If not the top athlete to play for MN in all sports.

Cheers to Kevin Garnett!!! Awesome the way he put the Wolves on his shoulders and changed the franchise almost single handedly.  I loved watching him play, he will be missed.

I grew up outside of Chicago  (Indiana side) and I remember a classmate of mine talking about this kid a few years older than us that was amazing. At that time I only watched the NBA, not much college and surely not high school. But he was so persistent about him, that I just had to keep up with him. Needless to say this player was KG. Became my favorite player, even to the point that I became a Twolves fan growing up in Indiana. Kind of sad to say, but being that fan of him (Timberwolves) and Randy Moss  (Vikings) helped make my decision to move to Minnesota after high school.
