WolfRisingParticipantIt seems like Rubio is on the way out, even though I think Rubio and Dunn can play together. How about Rubio for Noel and Bayless? I always think Dieng would make a great 3rd big. Noel would give Thibs more defensive toys and swapping Rubio for Dunn adds a little more shooting. I haven’t seen Noel much, but I would assume he could get out and run on the break.

Chilbert arenasParticipantSwapping Rubio for Dunn adds more shooting? Have you seen Dunn shoot? He’s certainly a better finisher but I don’t think he’s proved to be a better shooter… Or did you mean Bayless? Because I’d agree with that. I do like that deal though, Bayless would bring veteran leadership, toughness, and though not the best shooter he’s an upgrade over Rubio and Bayless doesn’t need the ball to be effective. Noel would fit nicely next to KAT perfectly, both great passers and would be tough to score on.

WolfRisingParticipantI’ll confess i haven’t seen Dunn a ton, but he looked confident shooting in summer league. Dunn’s last two years stats in college 47% and 45% and 37% and 35% from 3. Rubio’s numbers are ghastly, and my big problem with Rubio is close games everyone knows he won’t shoot and sags off.

negguaryParticipantSo then why would we, the sixers, want him being as though we already have floor spacing issues? In addition to this why would we want a pg who virtually has overlapping skills in regards to distributing the ball with our young franchise player Ben Simmons. All he would do is create more spacing issues and take the ball out of our franchise players hands which is when he is at his best!

OhCanada-ParticipantIf I’m Philly I’d look to acquire a PG somewhere else. With Rubio and Simmons my two primary ballhandlers would have broken shots. Philly also already has Rodriguez and while it may seem pairing the Spanish National teams PG’s together would be a smart option they already have the teams starter. Rubio backs Rodriguez up and is always outplayed by him. I’d rather have Bayless on this team to be honest.
For Minnesota its a great trade but I think Philly just has to be patient. BC will do a good not great job. He will allow the team to form and play moderate (don’t mess things up) GM.

A Lil EnglishParticipantI believe Rubio was the starter while it was Rodriguez coming off the bench this summer.. Sergio was slightly better offensively but Rubio was 3 times the defender

negguaryParticipantserdgio was the starter my brother…

Robb_CParticipantRubio looked awful in the Olympics.. His playmaking ability isn’t good enough to compensate for his boyish frame on top of his god awful shooting percentage (which is due to his conditioning) I guarantee anyone if he got in better shape his FG% would skyrocket .. Hes just not strong enough to be able to bump and run with American Guards, (seems to be a theme with guards from spain)

Jr. ROXASParticipantWhat do you mean by "which was due to his conditioning"?
0- Posted on: Fri, 09/16/2016 - 8:20pm #1086512

Robb_CParticipantHis overall lack of strength, the kid is quick no question but he lacks strength.. He has no lift in his legs to carry his jumpshot or when he attacks the basket.. I believe if he increased his strength and vertical (starts with core conditioning) you would see a vast improvement in his jumpshot..
0- Posted on: Fri, 09/16/2016 - 8:55pm #1086513

Robb_CParticipantAlso Id like to note; Rubio is a pretty good FT shooter and a poor jump shooter.. My opinion for this is he doesn’t have to activate his core muscles at the line as much as he does in a jumpshot.. Your Core is what keeps your shot together, consistent and tight.. A weak core typical results in inconsistent lift on a jumper which results in early or late releases.. I believe if he dedicated himself to building a stronger lower back and working his backside/hamstrings these muscles are key to supporting core strength and could very well help him prevent future leg injuries..

TravelinTravParticipantI dont see a reason to trade Rubio. Depth never hurts and when foul trouble happens having Dunn off the bench will would be great. Plus the potential rotations of Rubio, LaVine and Dunn. They can all play together at any combination. Unless the Wolves are offered something they can’t pass up don’t trade Rubio just for the sake of trading.

Robb_CParticipantI dont see Kris Dunn as a natural PG hes a tweener.. Kris Dunn played in the Flex at Providence, which is an offense extremely similar to the stuff Thibodeau likes to run (Thibs rans a ton of sets with flex principle and pinch post action in Chicago with Rose)
this will benefit Dunn greatly due to the fact hes going to be extremely familiar and comfortable with Thibodeaus offensive approach and knowing where to set guys up at.. Its an extremely predictable approach though and will definitely be transparent overtime.. Dunn was a turnover machine in college which could definitely continue in Minnesota.. In no way am I saying Kris Dunn wont be good because he will be.. I just don’t envision him as a True PG.. and that’s something you need to win titles..
Id at least keep Rubio till the all star break, Thibodeau just brought in his guy John Lucas as well so definitely a logjam happening

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantI would love to see Rubio on the Spurs

HitsterParticipantThe trade looks quite fair on paper but there are a lot of things to consider. Noel is due an extension next summer which with the new salary levels could put him on a very good deal. Rubio’s current deal with 3 seasons still on it looks great value under the new cap and Rubio is still only 25 so as a pass first PG may still be some way off his prime.
Who does Thibs see as his main ball carrier going forward – Rubio, Dunn, Lavine, Wiggins. I’d figure that Thibs would want to try all options before commiting to a trade.
Noel would be a great fit next to KAT, Thibs would improve his defensive game immediately. Noel would get some open shots too and the backcourt would keep him ticking over with put backs, lap ups etc. Noel would also have KG to mentor him, just being around KG would be a great boost to Noel. KG could watch him play, point out little things, pass on his knowledge.
For Philly Rubio gives them a 10/8 PG who is on a good contract, he’ll have scorers around him and the frontcourt will need guys to create for them. Okafor would benefit from Rubio’s creative game immediately. Simmons is a good ball handler too but him playing off ball would spread the play too.
My concern would be if Simmons has been drafted to be the main ball hander does Rubio suddenly change all these plans. It would be a big ask to expect Simmons to be the main point forward but if they see him in that role then the more he plays it from day one the better he should be.

markfitz14ParticipantI think the 76ers realize the players that will be the best fit around Simmons are shooters. If I can’t get a guard who can shoot for Noel I would just trade for a pick.

omphalosParticipantI still think Rubio is the answer at the PG for at least this next season. He’s the floor general they need to distribute the ball to their many offensive weapons and pick up the pace.
Let’s face it, Thibs is hardly an offensive innovator, so having a creative playmaker like Rubio making sure the offence is efficient makes the most sense.
Also, Philly is a terrible destination for Rubio.
0- Posted on: Sat, 09/17/2016 - 7:27pm #1086535

Robb_CParticipantI agree Id like to see Rubio play under Thibodeau, Rubio could really benefit playing for Thibodeau but I could also see it going south really quickly as well.
Thibs teams are not as bad on offense as people make it seem, yes he does run really cookie cutter sets but they’re ran extremely tight and crisp.. Good rotation and guys set really good screens. Id rather have a cookie cutter offense thats ran efficent over a complex one that breaks down early.. Problem with Thibodeaus offense isnt the innovation.. its the PACE at which he forces his teams to play that haunts them.. Lawerence Frank had this same problem.. Lawerence Frank consistently drowned his players by making them play halfcourt basketball. Thibodeau can be guilty of this at times but not nearly as bad..

markfitz14ParticipantKAT really is that good that Minny has playoff aspirations this year. They need Rubio to help get to the playoffs. A rookie PG starting would be a huge liability.

MatosParticipantI can see Rubio heading to a young team with shooters. Maybe Denver is a good team and they can put together a package that Minnesota would like.
A team like the Spurs could make use of him as well. But then again, they can make use of anyone. Just saying they’d be able to showcase his strengths.
