With a new class of players set to be enshrined in Springfield I thought I’d take some time to reflect on some guys that are eligible but haven’t yet gotten into the HOF for whatever reason:

    1. Chris Webber: This seems like a no-brainer to me. Although he was plagued somewhat by maturity issues early on and injuries later in his career, this guy was a legitimate superstar in his prime and one of the most multi-talented bigs to ever play the game. From 1999-2003 he was right up there with Duncan-garnett in the discussion for best pf in the game. While he may have never won an mvp or a ring, his overall resume suggests he should easily be in the HOF.

    2. Tim Hardaway: While his Run TMC counterparts have both gotten in, hardaway has yet to get the call, even though his career may have been just as good or better than either one. His killer crossover was revolutionary and he was one of the guys that paved the way for a new generation of scoring pgs.

Sidney Moncrief: Overlooked because he played most of his career in a small market, Moncrief may have been the best overall defender at his position throughout the 80s and was a pretty good offensive player as well. He was a fixture on all-defensive and all-nba teams during his prime and his overall resume seems to stack up favorably with several players currently in the HOF.

There are several others I could make a strong case for but I don’t want to make this post too long. Who are some guys you feel like have been snubbed by the HOF and why?

I always thought Paul Silas had a case, but since he’s a player from an older era he hasn’t gotten brought up in these types of conversations.

    5 X All-Defensive Team
    2 X All-Star
3 time NBA Champion ( 2 different teams)

20th All-Time in rebounding (12,357) including 8 seasons averaging over 11 per game

A lot of defensive enforcer types don’t get a lot of love from the HOF committees, and Silas only has a career scoring average of 9.4 ppg, but he rarely gets mentioned with a lot of guys on the fringe (which I fully believe he is, but worthy of conversation).

Silas also has dedicated over 30 years of his post playing career life to coaching. He hasn’t had the most success, but I always think of contribution to the game as a part of the equation.

How about two really fringe guys, just for arguments sake (as in, probably not, but let us argue the merits!).

    1) Michael Finley -7 consectuive seasons w 18 + points per game, including 5 with 20+.

-Criminally, he was only elected to 2 all-star games

                                   – During his prime averaged 5 boards and 5 assists per game

                                  – 17,000+ pts and one perfect form on his jumpshot

    2) Jeff Hornacek- Averaged almost 17 a game for his career, including 16 a game as an unathletic 36 year old.

-Almost 16,000 pts, averaged 5+ assists per game, including 2 years over 8 per game.

-Clutch shooter who shot over 40% for his career.

Keep in mind it is the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Good. Should either ever even touch a ballot let alone get consideration? I say yes to Finley for a ballot spot, but not for entry. I say no to Horny for both, but I loved him as a player.

C-Webb would be near the top of my list 5 All Star Games, 5 All NBA team appearances, over 17,000 points, career average of over 20ppg, Top college player too in his years at Michigan.

Shawn Kemp is another guy who I think should be considered too.

Kevin Johnson is another name I’ve often heard mentioned too.

Here’s a list of players not in the Hall of Fame yet and some of the guys mentioned here are on top of the list.
