     Anyone on here have in-depth information on Nevada’s red-shirt sophomore, Cameron Oliver?

     I’m just learning about him and he looks really intriguing. Athletic undersized power forward but looks pretty explosive and has a little range to his game. Also, third-team All-Defense and lead the Mountain West Conference. Watching some of his highlights and I see his got some nice footwork and seems to have a good first step too. Tore his ACL in high school but still looks nice.

     Just want to know if this guy can be a late-lottery pick next year with a little more info.

     Funny you mention him because I’ve been a huge fan of his since his freshman year and try to pub him up any chance I get on here, He’s extremely talented a supreme athlete and has a great nose for ball, excellent shot blocker for his size.. He’s going to be a very solid draft pick and reminds me of what Wilson Chandler was at DePaul.. He’s going to be Nevadas key to a great season, I personally think he will have the Wolfpack in the Tourney..

    Good Eye Though!! Glad someone else noticed this kid he’s talented

     Hes an explosive athlete with good instincts whose overall game is still developing. There is definitely still a lot of room for growth, which could be a positive or negative sign depending on how you look at it. Right now, he’s not an NBA player but he could easily develop into one with some seasoning. 

    He has shown some potential shooting the ball and he needs to continue to develop in that area to play at the next level. He also needs to work on being able to put the ball on the floor and make plays, as well as reading the defense better. He has some nice basic post moves and a good first step right now but his game will eventually have to gravitate more toward the perimeter on offense to make it as an undersized 4. I see some similarities in his game to Paul Millsap at the same age, but Millsap greatly expanded his offensive repetiore over time.

       Milsap had one skill that really translated to the NBA… Rebounding. In space, in traffic, out of his area, everything. Oliver is nice, but right now (not necessarily in the future) what is his skill that tranlsates? I ask, because I really do not know too much about him…

         His Defense is very solid, he’s an nba athlete and most certainly has the IT factor.. he’s a stud in transition and has a jumps hot that’s developing.. he averaged 13 and 10 as a freshman and had around 100 blocks all season.. like I said earlier he reminds me of Wilson Chandler when he was at DePaul.. Wilson was pretty raw coming into college lacked a jumpshot, finally put his shooting woes behind him and became a first round pick under the radar.. Cam reminds me a ton of Wilson Chandler, plays the 3 or the 4 is uber athletic and can really get out on the break.. Like Wilson it’s all about Cam refining his Skills and developing a consistent jumper.. I’m a huge fan of his

         It’s true he is not a Millsap level rebounder at the college ranks, at least not yet. He is a very strong shot blocker at the college level but I’m not sure how well that will translate given the fact that he is 6-8 and not exceptionally long. Can’t really say he has one skill that really stands out right now, but he is definitely an NBA level athlete with a developing skill set to play at the next level.

         Millsap was just a baseline comparison given his build and potential. I’m in no way expecting him to be the next Millsap or anything but I do notice some similarities between the 2 at the same age. I haven’t seen that much of Oliver yet but he’s definitely someone to keep an eye on for this upcoming season.

           100 Blocks + 9.0 boards a game as a freshman= extremely high motor, blocking shots and rebounding are hustle stats he’s not a center so typically he’s rebounding and blocking shots on the move.. all the signs of an extremely active player on defense.. 

          He does have flaws he gets to the line quite a bit but has a poor FT percentage and tends to settle a bit in the mid range which I don’t blame him knowing he’s a poor free throw shooter, struggles a bit with complex offenses he tends to get beat or has problems defending pNR situations but him being an athlete helps him recover in these situations.. needs to improve defensive IQ, knowing when to force a guy baseline vs the middle etc etc.. 

          He’s a great rebounder for his size and a terrific fisher at the rim, he’s definitely a threat in pick and Roll situations..

    I want him to succeed in order to keep proving that the Mountain West is a viable conference to play in if you want to make the NBA.
