What is Wrong with Lebron’s jumpshot?

 I hate it when people say sh like this.. if LeBron did x he’d be unstoppable.. dude already IS unstoppable. 5 straight finals, 3 chips, just came off one of the greatest finals by a single player in history, routinely puts up 25+ points, 6+ boards, 6+ assists, whilst defending the other teams best perimeter player for large portions of the game. If any other player put up a full season of LeBron esque stats and enjoyed the post season success he has theyd be hailed as an alltime great- people really underrate Bron

LeBron was able to shoot 40% in his career, but he also took most of his shots close to the basket and didn’t chuck 4 3’s a game.   I still believe his best basketball is played from the post out, but since he went back to Cleveland, he managed to go back to his old way of playing.   Which is why his jumpshot was trash this season.   Spending too much energy from behind the 3pt line…   He managed to still win a title despite that, but it’s hard for me to see him and Cleveland winning another one without him getting easy shots.   It’s weird because he said he hated playing down low in Miami because he was spending too much energy down there.   But looking at his stats (and the way he plays now), he’s clearly spending more playing behind the 3pt line.   Even his freethrow percentage went down.

 It’s hard to believe someone as talented as lebron could actually have issues with confidence at times, but that is the case when it comes to him shooting the ball. He is the rare superstar that actually cares about shooting percentages and efficiemy and playing a complete team game. I’ve always said that (although he may be the nbas all time leading scorer when all is said and done) he is not actually a natural scorer and is much more comfortable in more of a facilator role. You can tell that when he misses a few shots, he generally has a tendency to hesitate on open looks. This was especially true earlier in his career but still happens from time to time now.

There have been teams in the past that have tried to exploit lebrons unwillingness to shoot the ball and dare him to beat them from outside (like San Antonio in 2013). However, it really hasn’t proven to be an effective strategy most of the time. Although he might not necessarily be a knock down shooter he isn’t really a guy you would feel comfortable leaving open either. If you give him space to launch and get into a rhythm, he will usually starting knocking them down. Overall, he shoots it just well enough to keep defenses honest most of the time, and for someone with his all-around offensive skill set that is really all he needs to do.

I’m not sure I understand the nature of this thread. Lebron’s jump shot is far from great but far from broken. Mechanically he is fine. Just don’t think his shooting touch/mental makeup as a shooter is top notch, but he does get the job done enough that you can’t just lay off him all day. Besides he is more dangerous driving and getting defenses to collapse. If he shot the ball better he might be doing the defense a favor and keeping players from getting in foul trouble by shooting too much.

Just don’t think his shooting touch/mental makeup as a shooter is top notch, but he does get the job done enough that you can’t just lay off him all day.
